Would you want a good yet unsuccessful Gears?

There is no such thing as a perfect Gears game at this point and this is why.

Feels like the community is completely split up from what makes a Gears game “good”
this can go from the movement of how gameplay feels to simply not liking some new cosmetic features added to the game. To keep this short and sweet which Gears game had the least flaws to you? A title where you’d comfortably say this was closest to perfect. Would you really be okay if TC managed to magically make all the die hard fans happy without being able to attract new players to the fanbase?

I honestly think the best possible outcome for a good gears game would be a remaster of 2,3 or 4 and 4 seems the most likely being TCs creation. Personally I’d like to see a 3 remaster.
don’t forget to comment like and subscribe, thanks.

3 was the best hands down, then tc took over and they took a good step forward with 4, too bad they turned around and started sprinting backwards for 5

Good thread idea. Gears 3 was the most polished and was pretty content rich especially for its time being largely before the MTX model took over which funds continual post launch development of games.

Gears 3 has my vote.

This franchise needs another Gears of War 3.
Solid launch roster, good campaign, starting weapons, and beast mode.

The problems that keep us from getting another GOW 3-type game is that some people are okay with less and Gamepass.

4 was the best pvp in the franchise

They could copy paste the Gears 3 or 4 multiplayer patch notes and I would be happy with it, one of my problems with Gears 5 was how long they took releasing the escalation update for Gears 4 and then Escalation was basically almost a whole new game mode for 5 in which as soon as I played I knew what my complaints would be for the future and yup those complaints are still there.

Gears of war 2

I absolutely hate the idea of the current Escalation. It completely changes the way the game mode is played and it forced so many of those eSports teams to either change their teammates or just completely give up on the game. Seriously, don’t fix what isn’t broken. The changes were NOT for the better.

Gears 3 was probably where I started to take the game more Serious. Very enjoyable experience, took alot of things for granted. Only thing I don’t really like is how GoW3 forced TDM on everyone but it was probably for the better since its such a populated playlist now.

Maybe we should all stop viewing it as being forced then?

I know a popular sentiment was TDM was more casual and made to cater to a non traditional gears crowd but there is a reason it became such a successful game mode.

I would never want a non successful gears game.

We honestly have to let go of this way of thinking.

If the “vets/hardcorez/og/whatever,” players desire something that won’t be popular then that is their problem and selfishness.

I would prefer a game that constantly pushes forward.

Gears 3 and 4 were my favorite experiences overall for PvP

But I also liked the direction judgment tried in multiple ways mainly :
-No active reload… Faster reload is OK, extra power is not
-Multiple grenades and quick throwing sticky grenades (Halo fan in me I guess)… minus the stim. Spotting grenades were great IMO
-Various starting weapons…Lancer /gnasher is very one dimensional gameplay IMO
-Overrun…
-Ammo Crates … as finding rifle ammo is almost impossible in most gears games.
-verticality in maps… Just make better drop and climbing animations

TDM is as hard as your skill level & competition.

If you’re not good you’ll get match with similar skill.

Don’t understand how people don’t get that.

TDM’s cooked now that it’s only squads if 2. Making it as casual as ever.

I want a non successful gears game.

Just to prove this isn’t the direction.

That be the only reason.

Having gears games just to have them with no understanding of the lore isn’t fun.

I like this post because its actually giving new things a try. There are obviously going to be features I can part with but I’m not completely against change at all. The forums seem to like new things but…don’t like change? so this puts TC in a weird spot where they have to bring a brand new feel for things without changing that core Gears of War vibe.

Most people on the forums believe that if the pvp aspect worked properly it would attract more players and be ranked as a better game but I honestly don’t believe that. It would maybe bring a few die hard fans back but I don’t think it would make any new players wanna jump onboard due to how flawless the pvp would be.

Also I didn’t mention this in my last post but I feel that I should, overall I had tons of fun with Gears 3 and I also had tons of fun with 4 I didn’t get to play UE much since I got an Xbox one around the time 4 was announced.

What I mostly want is for the game to be fun, having those matches where even if me and my friends got whooped we could laugh and talk about how bad we got clapped, swap between modes and win and loose across all the game modes, it probably sounds dumb but me and my friends were always laughing even when we lost, at this point even my friends that play horde quit the game and it saddens me that I don’t know a single person that still genuinely has fun playing Gears 5.

Been playing 5 since launch and I was having fun in the beginning all the time. Slowly that fun turned into obsession due to all the grind (and some almost impossible to pin point reason why I’m doing it)

I was having this discussion with my friends yesterday while we were doing horde. None of us were having fun, we were just playing because it’s become a routine.
Getting one shot downed by the elites and instantly getting executed by pouncers that are programmed to jump into your base once your DBNO.

OP5 was meant to be fun but instead it’s just more grind. Let’s see how the Hivebuster DLC will turnout.

Wait, does that mean Gears 2 isn’t the Top gears game? thats a Spoiler to my new series Ranked. I’ll link it if y’all want me too.

But fr, Gears 2 is the perfect gears game.

Nice thread idea. I’ll start by saying in the original trilogy, Gears2 was unquestionably the worst. The story was nice, but the mechanics were slow, clunky, unresponsive… just an awful experience. It was an attempt to experiment with new ideas - just like Gears5. They bounced back and delivered in a serious way with Gears3, which i think most people would agree was the best of the series. And I think they’ll do it again with Gears6.

The unfortunate thing about Gears5 is that launch was a disaster and 80% of the players abandoned the game after the first month.

I did see one guy one post on Twitter last year The Perfect Gears Game: “Gears of War Live” - with Gears 3 Mechanics, no campaign, ALL maps ever made (with new maps too), and all characters.
I would also settle for the Gears5 Classic Execution mechanics that they had a few months ago - that felt really good.

I wish they could bring back some of the good things made in G-judgment for PVP like fast respawn time, fast swap weapons, sticky frags, and being able to use heights as a way out or assault,

for PvE, I would go all-in for overrun and best mode.

Gears 1 PVP was the best simply because everyone just played for fun. Most everyone played Player Matches. The MP wasn’t bogged down with grinding for unlockable it was just a PVP extension of the campaign. Future Gears titles have obviously improved or finessed certain mechanics etc. I played a ■■■■ load of 4 and play 5 now but Gears 1 had a simplicity to it. It had lag and host advantage issues, sure. But it was when people played the game for the game’s sake. Now in 5 there’s so much visual feedback, everyone is obsessed with their rank and the whole system is dominated by medals and objectives and the “chase”. And once you catch a wee reward you’re onto the next one.
