Worst horde system EVER! Awful gameplay experience

The right balance must be struck so as not to make the game too easy. That’s my concern here. Master is already trivial with the regular line-up, and a set of experienced players.

How do you run it? Behind a wall of barriers and Sentries? Just curious here, but if you do, no wonder it’s trivially easy because there’s not that much risk involved. From what I heard spamming heavy weapons(and JD explosives) is the way to go while being behind an iron curtain, so to speak. Due to extreme sponge from enemies and far too high damage from them. But if you can prove me wrong, I would be eager to hear it.

And I have only really played Kait so far and didn’t get the impression it was an overpowered character. I can’t carry an incompetent team on Experienced or Advanced all by myself. But with the terrible skill drops I haven’t managed to level them much either.

Yeah typically what I see in the lobbies is “Del/Kait/JD/Jack + Level 4 Forge or ■■■■,” though I have had some fun games outside of that. We had a good Jack-less game for example.

All weapons pretty much become irrelevant once you get a few Tri-guns lockered up. But even they are as nothing compared with Bleed from JD and Kait. It tends to be a JD sat at the back with a dedicated Lancer GL locker, spamming everything to oblivion. And Kait with an Overkill locker, also ■■■■■■■■ on everything at a distance. We’ll be flooded with cash from the Forge, and bosses like the Matriarch will Bleed out in about 10 seconds.

All I play is Master really, so I understand this isn’t a fair reflection on Horde in general.

I usually tend to prefer some variety in my playstyle or weapons I use so generally if I can have a locker dedicated to myself when Kait, I just keep one Overkill and then a Claw, Torque Bow, Longshot, Dropshot or Breaker Mace on me. Preferably one of at least three of these so I can switch around if one’s empty. Though with how quickly I burn through Overkill ammo it would probably be better to keep two at a time to cycle through them.

That’s cool, I like those weapons too

I don’t even play Kait/JD btw, but that’s what I tend to see. My mains are Kat, Emile and Sarah. Yes, all of the ‘spare tyre’ characters xD

Well, I have not seen that many JDs yet. But considering the amount of butt kicking Keegan can do with that sweet explosive bleed damage, I know how devastating he could be in terms of damage output(The Surge gives you lots of frags to play with - it’s like being in heaven, watching Elite Hunters and Elite Drones dropping to your frags like flies in the second section of it, and Scions don’t stand up well to them either).

But Kait, her damage mostly is single target focused and while yes, her bleed damage can also do a not inconsiderable amount of it, I doubt it would be anywhere near the damage explosive bleed can do from JD. I found I would be the one to do most of the damage using the Overkill on a Matriarch anyway, if there was no JD on the team. Other bosses, not so much since they can be hit almost anywhere to take damage. And she’s also not that well suited to taking on Kestrels with shotguns.

Trying to remember total damage figures from a recent completed Master run. JD had ~5.4 million while Kait scored a total of ~4.2 million.

As Emile I totalled ~1.2 million damage I believe. I was mostly Tri-Shotting, with Crit Dmg maxed out by around wave 40, and also hitting things with a Warden’s hammer occasionally.

As a melee character with hardly any weapon boosts otherwise, this doesn’t surprise me that much. Emile can’t exactly safely go toe to toe with enemies on Master. So there Kait and JD would have an advantage over him. But that seems more like an issue down to the absurd difficulty scaling giving enemies more health and us less health whenever difficulty goes up, on top of having modifiers giving enemies extra health and damage, and then adding health, accuracy and damage poisons as well. These things were less of an issue in previous Gears but it just seems excessive to have all three together because it just creates artificial difficulty to make the enemies practically be walking tanks with what are practically orbital laser cannons as their weapon.

And a Del can also rack up a lot of damage if he sets things up in a way to have Sentries kill nearly everything in sight before it gets close - which is definitely possible, especially with a Jack running a Forge. Kinda meh if they do that anyway, but with how inadequate the teammates I sometimes get are, it doesn’t surprise me engineers still continue this practice of having Sentries kill everything in sight.

Haha yes I agree the enemy damage is outrageous; a freaking Peace Maker can wipe the squad easy. It does make me laugh sometimes. The Coalition could have been a little more creative when it comes to upping the difficulty xD
I guess you are very restricted in how you can play on Master due to all the orbital lasers going off xD

Lol it’s 3am and I’m a wreck due to medication withdrawal. I dont even know what my ■■■■■■■ point was in the first place. Have fun out there mate.

news are bad, very bad!

I’ve played gears since day 1 and until now all editions had some appeal. Gears 3 had the excellent beast and 4 had a radical horde change that made it extremely playable. 5 has killed horde. The perks are a chronically bad idea. Players who shouldn’t collect power (scout in 4 nailed that duty) do so to perk their “skills” at the expense of the team. Net result is players so far up the map who are too risky to revive because their selfish play means the base is practically non existent. JD (or his new pseudonym) is a game killing joke. Games don’t need OP one horse armies. Gears 4 was beautifully balanced. Everyone had a strong contributory part to play. Not now though. Idiot engineering noobs and their sentry obsession along with JD make the other 3 players spectators. What the fk were the coalition thinking when they designed the edition that killed the franchise? I won’t buy any future gears games because TC have no symphony with the players who have loved this game for over 20 years.
