[Win10 Store] Campaign save file is effectively nonexistent due to the way the game treats the profile

First, a disclaimer: My ISP is pretty shoddy, but then many PC users like me are dealing with bad ISPs every day.

Let’s first get back to October 3rd, when I was pretty excited with my XGPU pass: I got just past “Recruitment Drive” and have just entered the open world map. I was pretty excited to find the Relic Longshot. I quit the game normally and went about my business, though it turned out something went wrong with my WiFi so I had to have windows troubleshoot and reset it.

Yesterday, when I switched on Gears 5 again, I’m pretty surprised that I had to start with setting initial graphic preferences and launch the Boot Camp level. My key mappings are all gone, too. When I left Boot Camp and entered the campaign chapter selection menu, it says I have not played “Recruitment Drive” yet, and none of the collectibles I’ve found was unlocked.

Today it asked me to go through the initial settings and “Boot Camp” again, key bindings gone again, of course. I went back to play “Recruitment Drive”, what can I do, and half a minute after I was able to control Kait, an in-game warning message popped up saying there was a failure to save and I was ejected from the level. I tried to launch the game offline, with WiFi disabled, and in this case there was no recording of my campaign progress at all, the only option is to start from “A Shot in the Dark”.

I haven’t been able to find an option for downloading my save profile or copying one from my friend in order to get my campaign progress back. I know others here have lost progress in one way or another, but this is just an example of what basic things the game can fail to do.
