Will Operation 6 be the LAST *real* Operation for G5? (speculation)

There’s different types of horror though, is what I mean.

I’m comparing 1-3 to now

Locust were pretty brutal , I’d say

At what point were you ever actually terrified? or (because you a grown man and don’t feel fear :joy:) a better word might be anxious.

Gears has always had some small bits and pieces of horror in its storytelling, but its never a central or significant aspect of the story.

The Flood from Halo were 10x scarier than anything in Gears, yet to say that Halo 1-3 (or any Halo for that matter) is a “horror” is just inappropriate, its not a central part of the story or gameplay, the central theme of the story is humanity’s triumph (emobdied by Master Chief) and the Flood/Covenant are just obstacles basically.

To give another example Monster Hunter makes you fight huge monsters but its still not a horror in any way, games that are close are probably Roguelikes/Soulsborne games where its you versus the world but even then they’re much closer to RPG’s than horror games.

Edit: genre lines are becoming more and more muddled over the years, but the central or core components of each genre still hold true. Horror games focus on psychological terror and that’s the core component of everything from gameplay to storytelling, Gears never was that way.

OG Gears… that’s where I’m coming from

Even Cliff thinks TC made Gears too soft…

What we have now…

I just have this horrible feeling that it would be released in OP 7 (if there is one). It just seems like something they would do lol.

I hope Operation 6 is the LAST TC is allowed to make.

And wanting the changes isn’t selfish? Regardless of where you stand on this area, it’s about different perspectives. The people who wanted to keep the Heroes system are no less selfish than those who wanted it to be changed.

No, it’s not, because it doesn’t take anything away from the people who were fine with the hero system. They can still match the class to the old character.

The point made was that changing this halfway through the game’s life cycle took a significant amount of time and effort on TC’s part, which is time and effort which could have been put toward addressing other issues. It’s all hypothetical as we don’t know what TC would have given us, but it’s a fair point I think. Any developer can only do so much.

By that logic, no one should ever ask for anything. It’s an impossible standard for someone to live up to.

Exactly, Gears 1 was not even remotely scary. It was just monsters. My son plays a bit and he wanted to know the lore, so I played Gears 1 and he was fine. Tai’s end in Gears 2 bothered him but none of it was scary.

Not like Dead Space, which I couldn’t have played in a dark room on my own, even Alan Wake had me on edge despite not really liking the game. There was no suspense in Gears 1 or ammo shortage. It’s never been a horror game it was OTT gore in the style of Starz Spartacus or 300. In fact I found it so boring even as an Adult I have it turned off.

What hasn’t been made into a Pop these days? And what’s wrong with broadening your fan base? It doesn’t make the man game soft. You just get used to it, when I first activated that chainsaw in Gears 1 I thought it was amazing, now I’m so desensitised to it and the executions I don’t need to see it.

If gears 6 is not announced at e3 2021 its not going to be released in 2022 so a more realistic release is 2023 i don’t see it happening any sooner. It have not even been confirmed yet so hard to believe it will get released next year no way.

So if they can’t share much info but they feel like we’ll be excited about it (like any other operation), my assumption will just be more ported maps from older Gears games.

He hesitated a while to give an answer if OP6 is looking good and it kinda sounds like they will get rid of that system. More maps is good for PvP and PvE (Horde). They already stopped making new hives so I don’t expect any new ones there. I don’t even expect new classes or a PvE overhaul again as it seems in a fairly good shape at the moment. PvP gameplay also unlikely willbe changed and new gamemodes haven’t lasted long so.

The only real thing they could give us is new maps and extended grinds (hopefully no lvl 7 cards lol).

I’ve feared this and in the back of my mind think it’s why they are not offering a system to scrap cards. Also I’m guessing Character levels to 22 due to the amount of CXP they currently offer. I hope not because it’s utterly ruining PVE but they seem to think this grind keeps people playing and to an extent it does. They grind but not play the actual mode correctly.

What I’m getting at is, by calling another forumite “selfish”, yet justifying your own “selfishness” is hypocritical. It’s just having different perspectives. All they did was point out that they didn’t care much for the changes to the Hero system. They were okay with keeping it and pointed out that it created extra work for TC.

It would keep Escape alive, funnily enough. If nothing happens I can see the population of the mode drop quite sharply over the next few months.

The whole progression system in this game is awful, from cards to re-ups to character levelling.

I have no idea what you think my “selfishness” is. It sounds like you’re referring to my preference for the classes and characters to be separate. If you think having a preference is inherently selfish, then you have no ground to call me a hypocrite, because there is no way you don’t have some preference of your own that could be argued, with your own logic, to be just as selfish.

Goodacre claimed that splitting the classes and characters was waste of time, and when pressed on the topic, doubled down, reiterating that they didn’t care about the feature and disparaged the members of the community who wanted it. Their preference would have been to actively deny a feature a large portion of the community wanted. There’s no way to claim that’s not being selfish.

I think it’s clear that I’m not getting through to you on this matter. I just don’t see your perspective to be any different to @Goodacre - you both have different perspectives on this and neither are more “selfish” than the other. They are arguing that these changes may have denied the player base other potential changes which could have improved the game. It’s just the other side of the coin.

Secondly I used the term “selfish” in quotation marks.

Right, it’s why I said minimum 2022.

Let me ask you one question: which of us, Goodacre or me, presented with a feature wanted by a large portion of the community, is saying, “Don’t bother putting it in, I don’t want it.” giving no thought to what others want?

The worst you can say about my position is that in getting what I wanted, some nebulous possible feature could maybe have not been implemented. If you truly don’t see the difference in our opinions, then I pity you.

So in the end, it’s all about popularity and what the majority wants? And what the minority wants is “selfish”? Is that what you’re inferring?

All he did was state his opinion. It’s really no different to what dozens of people do on these forums (and no doubt other forums or forms of social media) everyday. There are lots of people wanting the Gnasher spread to be changed to X; or the movement changed to Y…

Also, I conceded that I’m talking in hypothetics here - that we may never know what we could have got if TC were able to dedicate their time to it.

My issue here is purely that you decided to tar someone else who had a different opinion as being “selfish”, which is a bit of a crap move.
