Hello, I suppose I should tell a small back story before I rant… since this is the first time in all of my history playing Gears of War to write a post about gears, I’ve pretty much sat. played and watched and I think its the best time to write. I’ve noticed Coalition are some what listening more then Epic was thats for sure.
I’ve been playing gears since 2006 when gears was becoming a huge monster. Side note: The Coalition are doing a wonderful job at keeping the game alive with progressions, new ways to play and so on. I can understand that this game isn’t easy to make nor does it make it any easier as the generation becomes more demanding on developers.
My point today is why does this game have to have stopping power on starting weapons , over dramatic flinching, heavy and unnecessary physics. Yes I get it, the game wants to be realistic as possible force the player to make better choices since pretty much a fly can kill you in this game. I’m for that… but… this dream of this game being that way isn’t what made gears, “gears”
- Skill was a huge factor in gears 1, like timing your shots and being accurate at all times because everyone knew that the shotgun was inconsistent but got the job done.
- The Lancer was god awful at close range and far range, but if you knew how to use it or had a partner crossing, that weapon could do damage, easily downing 2 sometimes 3 people. Lots of.work had to go down using the Lancer back then. This is why stopping power killed all gear games from 2 to now.
You have to understand that Epic didn’t like the way people played gears 1. So when gears 2 came out. That game changed everything from the physics to the way the game played over all, the facts are in plane sight and its sad that Coalition is still following that path of limiting the Player. Your trapped in a box and thats the only way you can play this game.
- The lancer is definitely one of the biggest problem and I guarantee if the lancer took 16 to 18 to down someone or just completely remove the stopping power all together (I’m not talking about tone it down, no I mean gone) that will change the playing field all together. Now for the lancer to be effective 2 people have to use it not just 1 guy at spawn throwing lancer bricks.
- The Gnasher should not have any stopping power neither. The problem with the gnasher isn’t the tweaking and the constant retweaking its (flinching) that should be removed completely. That will remove all the inconsistencies everyone is having.
- Movement is key in all gears from walking to bouncing, which gears 5 is definitely the fastest of them all, only because of the hyper wall bouncing. which Coalition is trying to change because of… what… the way people are playing. This game needs to go backward not forward when it comes down to the mechanics.
- Players are “Players” meaning they will do anything to win or get what they want, its like trying to make all 3 year olds good at a game but to do so tweaks are needed to be made making it easier for everyone with no thought process. Of course that starts a problem, now you have people that know how to play abuse what you created in the process.
