I think an advisor role would suit him perfectly, they still have time to hire they have to if they want to save this game
People tend to either forget or ignore how Cliff was honestly a bad influence to Gears over time. Sure, he was the main reason Gears actually originally happened, but like many have said, his vision of Gears was not aligned with that of the community’s. Same with Rod. He was definitely needed with the transferring of Gears to a new team as he knew Gears 1 inside and out so he was a great help with the development of UE. Likewise, he was there to help in making it a smoother transition to creating new Gears games from the ground up as TC smartly played it safe first with Gears 4. If Gears 4 was like 5, the community would’ve pretty surely abandoned them right there and then. Gears 5 then showed that TC needed new leadership that would not be sort of anchored down by old ideas of what Gears should be like. After both Rod and Ryan left, things have been moving forward and tbh TC has ever since been reacting relatively quickly to feedback.
I’m not trying to bash on either Rod or Ryan here. Or Cliff for that matter. I appreciate the essential work all of them have done on Gears. Gears wouldn’t exist without either Rod or Cliff. Then without Rod’s return to Gears TC would’ve probably been pretty lost from the get-go and without Ryan, Gears 4 versus (especially comp) wouldn’t have been as good as it was. I can only respect them for all of that.
But, as I said, TC was in need of new leadership. And right now, despite the current issues with the game, I’m feeling hopeful and pretty much confident about Gears 5 because imo TC’s heads are in the right place (that’s a figure of speech, right? I’m not sure because English isn’t my native language lol). 2 things are right now mostly bothering me. Namely the ranked system and getting constantly matched with 5-stacks. Ranked is in pre-season though so TC are obviously gonna do some changes based on feedback and data. The 5-stack issue I hope is somehow solved so that solo players and small parties won’t constantly be matched with 5-stacks.
You have better english than most english speaking people on this forum.
I also agree with a lot of what you said.
Let’s be honest I think everyone would rather have Cliffy b than Rod Ferguson.
It’s perfect for him to come back because gears have nothing to lose it’s a sinking ship and rod Ferguson has the foundation of gears and kept it original so you don’t need to worry he’s going to change anything, he will just add more guns and make the game feel refreshed again, I don’t see the harm in it but that’s my opinion and a lot of people aswel
Are you kidding me? People like me? Lol I’ve actually been playing gears for almost 15 years, been a part of the OG gears forum, then black tusk’s forum and joined late to the converted TC forum, but you, someone who just joined last year says “ppl like me.” Lol at you bro.
I wasn’t attacking you or trashing you, but you gotta go hard at me? I was merely talking with you about how cliffy got old (like the rest of us) and how even tho he had good ideas (accidentally), he wouldn’t have the same good ones today. His twitter responses are literal proof of that!
No, the problem is ppl like you… parroting what you hear and what you THINK will save gears… when the man himself has clearly said he doesn’t have the same drive, and it’d be done differently than how the community thinks. Maybe YOU need to lighten up and realize a young cliffy b isn’t the same guy as and older cliffy b. I’m not the same guy I was when I was 20 (and I’m in my 40s now), so why would cliffy be any different?
Wake up… gears will only be close to what it was… It’ll never be like it was, and cliffy b isn’t the guy who’s gonna change it.
This comment has made me pretty curious.
I say this because I feel like the fundamentals of wall bouncing in versus, are applicable and necessary in PVE as well. There are certain situations that come to mind that I would have flat out not survived if I simply roadie ran and cover slipped to safety. I guess I never really put too much thought into it, but do the players who are on the top of every Horde and Escape leaderboard wall-bounce, or have they established a strategy that circumvents it? Personally, I feel wall-bouncing (not hyper-bouncing) it just part of the meta of all Gears modes now, not just PVP.
People need to be honest with themselves.
Gears 6 is most likely already in production, and not a ton will change between now and release.
I’m afraid the boat has already set sail.
One would imagine Rod’s influences will still hold great sway on the development of 6.
Again I have to educate you like I said don’t assume and post stuff and try and get people to hate him for no reason. The guy who made gears 1 and the best game fransice ever made. Unless you have real evidence. Which you clearly don’t.
This picture was 5 weeks ago 2020 on his Instagram him saying he’s put his offer to Microsoft and coalition to help with gears 6 and as you can read he put “heard crickets In response” he’s hasn’t heard anything back but he wants to come back to gears, we have a voice and we can help make this happen but negative people like you gears will defiantly be dead as we want people developing this game who knows gears not bob down the road. You’ve been on a forum for years? That doesn’t mean nothing Lol, iv been playing gears since 06 not on a little forum since 06 I know this game more than any other game fella and I play competive online from 1 to 5 I don’t judge an old developer that made a great trilogy.
Gears 2 was P2P. They didnt have severs until Gears 3
What’s wrong with Cliffy B? Nothing. He created Gears of War and we should all be thankful for that. His vision of the game is what we all liked. It’s the reason it grew to be a trilogy and then some. I would be more than happy to welcome him back because this game belongs to him. I just don’t know how well his chops would be considering he took a long break from game developing and his latest games didn’t do so well. I don’t care though. There is nobody I would feel more comfortable handling this game than Cliff or Rod, but Rod left of course. I say welcome him back. This game has spiraled out of control and now the community is running it into the ground. Constant complaining about everything literally all the time to the point where the devs keep changing things over and over. I would rather have Cliff run it into the ground if that were to happen, because at least the captain would go down with the ship.
That explains the lag on gears 2
Yeah exactly thank you, Your a True gears player
Bring back Cliffy b, coalition have done enough damage
While I’m no where near the top of any “leaderboards” in the pve modes, And have no idea how the top play like. But from my own experience I’d say that you really don’t want to be close enough to use a shotgun in the higher difficulty levels in horde unless you’re playing as Kait.
You’ll drop in 2-3 shots when you’re out of cover unless you have some active ability going.
Also curious if bouncing would work against AI since they can “cheat” with their aiming. If it works then great, but have never seen anyone bounce like the pvp players do
Hey, thanks for the reply!
Admittedly I was mostly thinking of Escape, as some of those final pushes for the helipad can get super dicey and become really close quarters. However, if we’re talking Horde, for sure, a well established base will allow for players to keep their distances and I can see wall-bouncing be way less critical.
As someone who is an Escape player who goes into high difficulty matches often… wall bouncing like people do in Versus is something I practically never see nor use myself. The occasional wall slide, certainly, but otherwise I don’t tend to use it. + Ultra Stopping Power as a modifier basically grinds any wall sliding to a halt while it does not slow down rolls.
Or maybe I spend too much time around PvE only players to see it used much.
Cliff didn’t create Gears on his own. Epic did
you always see dumb posts and chat messages that read “bring back cliffy B”. well, lets get one thing clear, he doesn’t want to come back in a developer capacity. why would he subject himself to this stressful job when he could go and crate another BossKey or retire? All he did was offer to “consult” which basically means listen to my ideas and pay me while I sit at home in North Carolina and laugh at the idea of moving to Vancouver.
His wants and ideals for a gears game simply don’t align with what the fans want for a gears game.
Such a good idea
There is no point in doing wallbouncing or roadie strafing against bots because they have too much accuracy. They are literally aimbots. Although it does help against melee enemies like Juvies and Rejects.
