What’s Up – July 30

How can anyone be bad at sniping in this game? The amount of assist is off the charts. I’m a terrible sniper in every game from Gears to Halo but in Gears 5 I can destroy with the Longshot. If I go back to Gears 4 I can’t use the damn thing to save my life. For the record, I don’t have aim assist enabled.

Agree to disagree. We could likely go all day arguing this with the same points each time, lol.

Yeah I swear headshots are magnetised on this game with no scope the head pops like 8/10 times,

If you have a team of 5 and you play another team of 5 on koth its tactical everyone communicating so it’s good but if you play random team stack against another random team stack koth is dead.

Basically true for any mode to be honest.

No one is talking about the Elephant in the Room…
That mechanics introduced in Gears 2 caused for over a DECADE! many problems regarding aim/consistent pellet spread…
If true, then why am I NOT surprised! :persevere:

This change in KotH will make top players stand out more. While that maybe true, for uneven teams this still doesn’t change anything.

One example I recall while playing with friends. I teamed up with an old pal who was Gold 3, while we were only Bronze 2. I was expecting enemies up to Onyx 2 (two ranks difference thing) therefore I was prepared for a sweaty game. I’m not the biggest Ranked player in Gears 5 but I very well used to be in all the other Gears so I can definitely hold my back in those upper ranks. But what happened there was something I do not understand…

Our two teammates were Onyx 1 or 2 (as expected) but our opponents (a 5-stack) crushed us really hard, none of us made many eliminations or ring caps or breaks, therefore we barely got to any Gears Points. At the end-screen we saw that 4 players were Diamond 1 - 3 and the fifth at Onyx 3. First of all I’m confused this can even happen but eitherways, the balance of rewarding Gears Points makes absolutely 0 sense in that case. Our opponents obviously made up a ton of Gears points in this match, even if they had ALL of us being at lower ranks than even their lowest ranked guy. And obviously all players in our team lost a bunch of points due to the entry-fee.

The Ranked system is just generally unfair and still doesn’t properly reflect players skills in my opinion. Especially when it comes to these kind of gaps between the ranks.

I always assumed when the devs said “you would be matched two up or two down” that they meant full ranks. Meaning, if the rank of the highest member of your team was onyx, you could be matched with anyone within the range of diamond 1-3 or Master 1-3.

…Maybe I’m wrong tho

Then that’s even worse to be honest… two entire leagues difference? So in Gold you can be matched with between Bronze and Diamond? That’s no equal matchmaking in a Ranked mode at all…

So I just got on & did some quick testing.

Played a Gridiron ranked at Bronze 1… Everyone on my team was various levels of Bronze. At the end of the match, the opponents ranks were revealed, everyone on their team was various levels of Bronze… Except one person, who was a Silver 3 :joy:

That’s because no one playes gridiron

Lol…I know I don’t. But I was just testing the theory of if “two ranks” = bronze 2 & 3 or silver & gold. Seems it’s the latter.

You know what they say about assumptions, right?

As for the issue - if it seems like your question isn’t being answered during a stream, especially in this case, it’s likely the answer has been previously stated, which is ‘We are aware, and are working on it.’

I have heard tell that it has popped for some after they did a simple thing - I’ll see if I can find that workaround.

I can’t speak to much else there, save for what I got tagged in for:

Yes, Dana spoke in a stream that cover was given an adjustment.

Beyond that, you do know that fans talk in more places than just these forums… right?

The workaround is get to the next level

Which can be an absolute pain in the butt if the change got you a few points past level 5 and now have to get to level 6.

Thanks, I’ll check if another one sprouted up too that isn’t that.

Try being at Level 4 pre-Allies change and then be at Level 7, just barely into it, after the change drops. Cause it’s 7,500 points from 7 to 8.

That’s my situation. Don’t personally intend to either get to level 5 with the other person who’s moved to level 4 with me after the change or go for Level 8 actively. So, seeing as I’ve already submitted a support ticket, I’ll be patient and wait. This achievement isn’t really worth the effort even now, to me.

Yeah.

I can’t remember what we all were but I was level 4 with one person and level 3 with 3 people before.

I know it didn’t on out that badly as I got it about a week ago with one of them.

Does look silly that I have the achievement for playing a game with 4 level 5 allies before getting the achievement for being a level 5 ally with someone.

Yes there’s reddit and the dev stream chat plus @BChaps does some gathering of questions i believe for the dev stream on behalf of the community but what was the reason for the wall cover change? or what would be better to know is which dev stream did dana touch on this and also is it something TC are looking to roll back?

Lastly where would be the best place to get information on the netcode of gears 5 whether that be a “what’s up” or a previous dev stream because id like to understand how and why it works in the way it does and does netcode and lag compensation mean the same thing or are they 2 completely different entities? it may explain to me why it “feels” as bad as it does in comparison to other games including gears of war 4.

Thanks for the reply TC_Sera

Thanks for the reply. That’s also why I didn’t assume anything, I just said it’s hard to believe that TC didn’t anticipate this issue or test for it. I’d be happy to hear if there’s a fix because I’m now level 8 with most of my friends (at the beginning of level 8) so it’s a long grind to get to level 9. It’d be much quicker if the parameters of the achievement were adjusted to meet reality that people jumped up and become greater than level 5 allies.

I’d appreciate any other solutions you might be able to dig up, I don’t really have many low level allies anymore, so starting from scratch is another long grind.

It’s honestly nowhere near as bad now to go from 0-5 with someone. You only need 2150 ally XP and you can now play Gridiron on Co-op v AI, which will give you 70 points per match, with quick matches against Beginner bots.

2150 / 70 = 31 matches, rounding up. That can be done in 1-3 days easily.

I’m not crapping on what you’re saying… I agree, it should have popped. But it’s not near as terrible if you have to find another.

Also, if you’re closer than 2150 with any of your friends to reach the next level of allies, then obviously the number of matches needed would be fewer,

While true, it’s not a bad a grind, like you say it’s still 2-3 days of grinding. It’s nowhere near the months of grinding that people did to unlock this prior to the update, but it’s still 2-3 days of grinding that should be entirely unnecessary.

More backstory (not needed to read if you don’t want to), but I actually found exactly 1 friend who jumped up to level 4 allies after the update. We both realized we were about 12 matches from hitting level 5 allies so we ground it out immediately. During the final match I lost power (thunderstorms) and when I finally got back online a few hours later I saw that he’d unlocked the achievement but I hadn’t. We even played an additional game to see if it would pop and it didn’t. So I’m not opposed to the grind, but I’m still saying this is something that should have been anticipated and the achievement adjusted accordingly.

We know it’s possible for TC to adjust achievements, they did it in Gears 4 for the Ranked achievement (get a rank in every comp playlist got changed to just get a rank in a comp and core playlist) and they did it again in Gears 5 for Grind Season. So I just think TC should have anticipated this issue and adjusted the achievement accordingly.
