What’s Up – July 30

@TC_Sera and other ranked devs please consider this post.

Not happy with the new changes coming. I like the game mechanic changes coming but some of the ranked changes need to be reevaluated.

I am happy with FFA changes as that will help queue times for sure. As a solo player this is the game type next to KOTH that I love playing

Reducing the GP to 1 instead of two will help slayers stand out but it will not help solo players experience in KOTH. It will be even harder to meet the cap allowing only stacked teams to reach higher tiers. There are many skilled players in the game that like to play solo for many reasons. Along with this KOTH is the main gametype played in this game. Please consider making changes for the solo player in KOTH. I don’t think it’s an argument that most players on this game play KOTH when it comes to ranked. I suggest that you take a look at decreasing the buy in for solo players in KOTH. This change to the GP only makes wins even more important and will encourage stacking even more. To make the cap of 100 points for performance you will have to get at least 80 elims. Those kinds of games don’t happen very often unless they are long games.

There is a reason why players would prefer KoTH over TDM. Bringing back TDM and making it so that only solos and duos can play has pretty much just created a solo queue gametype in an already small community. It also feels like you are just trying to kick solo players out of KOTH and put them in a gametype that brings a lot less action, which is one reason KoTH is played more than other gametypes. Anyone that has played TDM up to masters last season would agree that it is a VERY camp heavy gametype. It’s not the most appealing when it comes to constant gnasher gameplay, constant play making gameplay, and constant chances to retake the game, similar to escalation.

To sum it up, in order for me to have a good rank experience as a player wanting to play KOTH, I only have a few options. Join another 5 stack that will ensure wins. If my team sucks, I need to get 80 elims to make sure that I don’t rank down so much. Against a good stack, that’s not happening. It’s going to be harder for me to rank up which means I am really going to have to find stacks to play with now so that I get the win. I would like some change to be made that rewards a skilled player and encourages them to play the gametypes they like even if they don’t have a team. If I have to join the stacked team game then I guess I will. In honesty I already have. Just thought it would be nice to go back to solo queuing again. Any constructive feedback is accepted

Basically the games I play now are pointless because it’s all changing again. I do really like the up a fix because i noted this as well.

The elim thing is interesting. I dont think it really matters to me as much. I lose enough now anyways. It’s not gonna change the lancerfest going on. People have set up maps a certain way now and that’s not changing.

Blood drive and checkout are gonna play the same and people are gonna lancer even more now to get more eliminations.

These changes look fabulous on paper… TC is finally customer centric and Agile. Drop some fan fav new maps mid op4 and player base across world will definitely shoot up

Can people stop talking about stacks vs solo? I’ve lost against both. Did today on lift against five solos.

Then I’ve lost to a stack team as well.

On the flip I’ve beaten stacks and solos. Every game is different these days it’s literally round to round changes now.

I hardly win koth matches on checkout and blood drive …always greeted by a rain of lancer bullets
They need to really reduce ammo for lancer to 100 and nerf it based on distance
Also, mvp needs some gp

Awesome, can’t wait to try the playlist

not bad update, strange they haven’t added Pahanu to FFA since it was released, could’ve even added it to Beta Tuning Playlist so people could’ve tried out, it’s big enough for FFA since it’s release

I don’t think I like KOTH being lowered to 1 GP per elim I think it should stay the same

So let me get this straight… TC thinks that the only problem with MP is that Gnasher battles don’t take enough “skill”? In my eyes the issue that Gears 5 has (that’s been around since GOW3 days) is that the rifles are OP and significantly decrease skill in the game overall, although Gnasher battles are a bit lackluster honestly making the Gnasher a much harder to use gun whilst doing almost nothing to the lancer will just result in more crossing than the current game offers (which is a boatload).

changing TDM to 4v4 is also stupid, you realize that many of the maps in the game are already too big for 5v5 right? So now you reduce it to 4v4 so now lancering just becomes stronger because you know that there is far fewer people to track/contend with. Now I’m aware that Gears 1 was 4v4, but what people forget is that almost all the maps were drastically smaller than they are in Gears 5, it simply won’t work like it used to.

Regardless I will be testing out the beta playlist for sures :+1:

great changes, really happy with these decisions, consistency is key…took 6 gears games for a developer to have this kind of balls

the only change I don’t understand:

considering entry fees, this will make it even harder to rank up thus resulting in even worse stacking which is already a plague

I want to see these changes before I make a decision.

I like how there’s no more squads but I can see how some don’t appreciate that in TDM.

Im a TDM addict so a long as i see TDM I’m very pleased. It will be interesting how 4v4 no stacks affects the gameplay, for sure. I’m itching to play already…

I don’t know about the king thing. I thought the system was fine. Since eventually a player who plays with real onyx level king players will just settle in ranked. But if you reduce gp reduce the entry fee. Can’t say much about king since im a casual player.

I can see the argument for tdm though & those pro 5v5 with stacks but I just wanna play it before I judge.

Hopefully TDM gets its glory back. But I’m hoping the ranking system will be just as good as Kings.

Just happy to have TDM back & take it from there…

the issue I see with koth points system is the fact that you need caps and breaks to be a tie breaker between players
in most matches between good teams, some people are left out from caps and breaks because of their support roles
but as I’ve said in multiple threads already, koth can’t be limited to elims/caps/breaks there’s much more to rank a player
this new system only showed stacking = good - not stacking = bad and these upcoming changes will make it even worse

I had a match tonight that made me feel like the scoring isn’t exactly fair and doesn’t always demonstrate which players were the most dominant.

I don’t believe their top 2 players deserved 100 points in that match. @Metal_Gear_Mo and our random also had 100 points with @Metal_Gear_Mo carrying the load here. I had 103 eliminations with plenty of captures but less opportunity for breaks so I didn’t get 100 points because as a team we’re not all rushing in just to die to an explosive.

Basically, no one in that enemy team came close to outperforming us. But while they didn’t get the win and lost rank, this cap, even with 80 eliminations being the new standard, isn’t really that great either. I’d like to see a combination of changes starting with the elimination point changes. I’d say, at the very least, make it 100 points as the cap but that 100 can come via captures, breaks and eliminations. Keep the max points for captures and breaks at 10 a piece but let the eliminations go up to 100. Counting on breaks to maximize score isn’t a good test of skill nor should it be something we must do for a perfect match.

Edit: Another solution would be to cap at 80 points for eliminations but makes captures/breaks one category and allow up to 20 points total. This way you’re not forcing ring breaks which are circumstantial depending on how dominant your team has been.

I’m really impressed! Everything your updating is exactly what we need it shows your listening and we are greatful. Now all you need to do is stick to what you are saying with these updates for August 18th don’t change anything,
Tdm 4v4 is perfect!! I played gears 1 the most on the 360 with thousands of hours playing online mainly competitive 4v4 clan matches and I can say from experience the balance is perfect it stops everyone from camping it’s perfect amount of players I think you will finally put your stamp on the gears francise when 4v4 tdm comes out, gears 5 maps will suit this perfectly!
can’t wait,
Respect to TC.
(Also allow teams of 4 we don’t want any friends left out and 4v4 stops camping anyway so you don’t need to have solo or duos, team of 4 is perfect and bring back Mansion half way through this op that will bring everyone back to gears 100%)

It always feels like I’m playing a different game than everyone else because I rarely see lancering even in ranked. I’m wondering how much of the netcode is wrapping everyone’s perception because I think the lancer is super weak because I pump half a mag into someone and they dont go down. Same with the gnasher. Not saying anyone else’s opinion is invalid, it’s just my experience with gears 5.
I like the changes but fixing the servers and netcode would help this game tremendously imo.

I wouldnt say that. The gib range seriously needs to be nerfed, as well as the randomness that TC finally just admitted in this what’s up.
Fixing the netcode would probably help the gnasher more than anything.
