"We Gained Your Trust With Gears 4"

Yeesh. I just feel that games are supposed to be played for fun. I don’t get why it needs to be competitive when you just have people who are always complaining nobody is doing their “job” and they want high rank players only. Nobody just wants to have fun anymore. I remember the last time I played I got kicked multiple times from groups for not being Diamond or Onyx … I mean, I’m not inexperienced by any means but the fact is that I just want to enjoy my game time. Not be told I’m a scrub when I’ve been playing Gears as a whole for 13 years.
I get there are competitive players and trash talk but it’s become so much more prevalent with the introduction of E-Sports. Or, maybe I’ve just noticed it more. … Either way, I still believe it was a bad marketing move.

Getting airtime on national TV is a bad marketing move? So far all it seems is that Gears 5 is removing parts of the jank that the older games didn’t dare remove (or change), and hopefully in the end we get a much more consistent game out of it.

Gears 4 I don’t think even had that long of a dev cycle, since TC was also creating their engine and asset pipelines as well as remastering Gears 1. But with a completed engine, Gears 5 could’ve been in development much sooner and thus had more time in the oven. More dev time could easily explain why something like the Tour of Duty system can exist now, because they’ve had more time to come up and implement the different challenges.

In the fact that it’s the wrong focus. Games are supposed to be fun, not people shouting at you and then kicking you for trying to have a good time if you’re not up to their standards. E-Sports may make money, but for the wrong reasons. They’re making other people upset (myself included) because of the balancing issues, game lag problems, gun issues, and more. I’ve seen, read, and been a part of several discussions about how the usually fun multiplayer has taken a dive since TC decided to waste time with this bunk and not improve upon a good base system.

No one’s forcing you to play in a ranked playlist, play how you want. If you really are that hellbent on having others force you to play differently, I’m not entirely sure what I could suggest here.

Plenty of sports get boring when getting into the big leagues, compare something like the MLB to just some schoolyard baseball. Same thing with games. If you don’t like it, don’t do it.

One hundred and sixty~ some posts later I think it’s clear the community didn’t agree with the ‘trust’ statement.

That’s just it, though, I don’t play in ranked a lot … It trails over to the other playlists too. Hence, why I quit and only play with friends when I can. It’s disappointing what happened. I know TC will do what they want, it’s clear they only care about certain things. I can say my opinion though about what’s been happening since this E-Sports became a thing … Just meh.

They sure as hell are forcing you to play gamemodes you don’t want to play in Social with their “map voting” system where you can vote for 3 maps but ALL 3 of them are different gamemodes each your forced to play if they’re voted like KOTH. How hard is it to just only play quick match Social TDM but noooo we’re forced to play others gamemodes as well. Just bring back quick match of your gametype of choice like what Gears 3, Judgement and Gears 1 UE did.

OMG thank you! I love KOTH, it’s my favorite game type but when I play social I either have to quit or play something else like Arms Race or Guardian just to get back to the KOTH rotation. I just want to social KOTH, it’s not that hard!

VR was a really cool idea when the movie Lawnmower Man first came out but public interest in it has been in a steady decline ever since.

It’s never going to take off.

I have an Xbox but I prefer to play Gears 4 on PC. I’d say I’m pretty skeptical about anyone earning my trust with the way this game crashes. I can play Guardian, KOTH, or anything else mostly fine but I can’t for the life of me play Escalation because it likes to lock up just short BSoD whenever someone places a weapon. And then you can’t rejoin even though you’re booted back in within 30 seconds because it can’t connect to “Gears of War services”. Pretty much forcing you to try again in an hour or just wait till tomorrow to try and play again.

I played in 2 LFG groups, some TDM and KOTH. Both times the game ended up doing the random freeze it eventually does. There seems to be a glitch with rejoining a ranked match. It will be on the loading map screen, just with the gear spinning forever, never joining.

I had to restart the game like 5 times before it got back into the game the first time. When it happened the 2nd time, the game was too near the end of the match, so I never made it back in because the same issue of it loading the map forever was happening, and I didn’t have time to restart enough times for it to finally join.

I already was wary of playing any ranked matches because of the PC freezing issue, loading forever bug while rejoining just secured it for me. I’ll probably not end up getting the Esports Kait for Gears 5.

Also, I only had the game installed about a week now, after not playing for nearly a year. After a day or 2, I decided to check my Xbox Live Reputation to see if people were still reporting players just for playing on PC, I had 2 “Cheater” reports. I figured that was fine, it was to be expected. Then after playing a match the other night, some random from the other team msg’d me “Nice mods… Trash!”.

I figured he prolly added a report, and I check, and I have 59 “Cheater” reports now. It seems either they allow for 1 person to spam report, or he got his friends list to report me. It’s hilarious how stupid the whole reputation system is, and the fact it’s still around in 2019 in such an infantile and unmanaged state. What makes it worse, I play solely on a Razer Wildcat X1 controller, such a joke.

Well first off youre miss quoting him. He said “with gears 4 we wanted to earn your trust”

This. People don’t listen and they mishear things all the time.

Ill admit i laugh hard with this. I loved GOW1 Ultimate Edition and they had my trust at that moment but when GOW4 came out, it didn’t took long before they lost it.

Useless season pass of 60$(CAD) that ultimately gave like 6 new maps and a tons of recycled maps. Maps from previous GOW where barely changed at all, not even theme changed (Canals GOW1 vs Canals GOW2 on ice) and they had the audacity to give us variants of the GOW4 launch maps.

Terrible RNG pack system designed to milk the gamers. Gatekeeping horde skills behind them (thus making it pay to win even if its coop) + money only “epsorts” packs that contained the best skins. Altough they made it less of a mess by the end, it still was some form of RNG with real money.

Making us grind the horde in speed runs for XP and gold to get said packs, a mode wich i think is fine ocasionally when chilling out with friends but nothing more. Seriously i never did as much horde in any gears as i did in 4 and that include the requirements for Seriously 3.0 in 3… I am STILL on horde overdose even if i have not played that mode in MONTHS.

Anyway thats just a part of it, but the fact they had to come out and reassure us that RNG packs where gone, no season pass is an admitance of guilt because they know if they didn’t, lots of veterants wouldn’t had bite this time.

Don’t forget EVERYONE got access to those maps for free after we were duped into paying for them in the initial pre-order. There’s no offline play in Gears4 so the benefit to “owning” the maps was marginal at best.

For me gears 5 is where they’ll get their trust everything relies on this game

It wasn’t pay to win. More like play to win. I didn’t spend real money but still got all Horde skills, two or three times.

Brief background on me as a player…played every game except Judgment an extended amount. Not GoW1 as much, but I had something like 90 days of playtime in GoW 2, and not that much different in GoW3 and 4. Used to spend a lot of time on the forums too but…wife, kids, jobs, and just being my late 30s, makes it tough to find extra time.

Figured I’d pop in today to see what people are saying about the tech test and it’s the same old stuff here that it always was. This community just sitting around saying things that they don’t like are broken without citing specifics, raging at TC, showing some entitlement, and assuming that the people who are on the forums are the majority of the player base and expecting to be catered too. Classic forums, oh you guys…never change!

GoW4 was good. It wasn’t universally and objectively perfect, but it was good. Movement felt good. Weapons were fun. Campaign was decent. Horde I thought was phenomenal. It was far from perfect, there’s plenty to complain about. PLENTY. The loot boxes were especially awful, and the season pass was a huge rip off, the fact that I think only 6 (not sure but it’s something like that) of the 24 DLC maps were legitimately new, blah blah blah…again, not perfect. But as far as just loading up the game and playing a couple matches of KoTH or TDM or old school execution, or rounding up some buds for Horde…great fun. Y’all need to realize you aren’t the only gow players out there and that maybe some weapon tuning changes you don’t agree with or some poor DLC are not the same thing as “broken.”

Side note for PC players…your game might actually be broken, I have no idea. I’ve never heard anybody say the game runs well on PC. But those of us on XBox need to chill.

Well if it makes you feel any better, they still havnt fixed gears pc crashing. It has been transported over from 4

I’ve heard it’s a different crash so all hope isn’t lost.
