Was kinda relieved to see this. 2.8 rating (update- its now 2.5)

You can use versus vs AI for that if needed

I wonder what are you doing here ? if you consider gears of war players toxic why do you even play the game ?

Your points are very good brother. The game has its flaws and I remember how terrible of a launch Gears 2 was. If people had today’s social media back when Gears 2 launched in 2008 the amount of negative backlash would be 2 to 3 times worse. 5 at the moment is better than 2s launch and I’m sure, just like Gears 2, it’ll improve over time and the amount of good factors are outweighing the bad ones in multiplayer right now. I saw the rest of your posts and I agree the omen effect is too much and many other issues are there but I’m sure they will be fixed. People need to stop review bobbing the game because multiplayer is a mess right now. The overall game is still good and better than a lot of AAA games out there. The campaign is the best since 2, escape is really fun but needs more content and Horde is great if you can find people that are willing to be a different class than you. The lack of content and a few gameplay decisions from the devs are the only problems. But that shouldn’t be a proper reason to review bomb the game

Have “fun” all you want. This game is a severe disappointment to more than those who enjoy it and is a major step down from it’s predecessors.

Nah. Ive played it massively since gow1 too, people are making it worse with the negativity that goes around.

You’re all feeding each other nothing but negativity.

Yes, there’s issues you’d rather not see. But seriously, cut the non-stop negativity on here. Constructive posts are actually… constructive. But the majority is just crying about even the smallest nits that don’t fit their preference.

When you go to gears 5 reviews it doesn’t say 2.8 it says 2.7.

So? If you’ve “played them massively since gow1” then you sure as ■■■■ should know how much of a step down, not only in quality, but in overall effort was put into this game.

“We’re all feeding negativity.” Ex ■■■■■■ cuse me? So what? We should all be just un-paid shills who bought a broken and ■■■■■■ product, and just give each other high fives while attempting to play with a pile of ■■■■? “Hey bro, see that dude one shot me around the corner 15 feet away like it was Wanted? ■■■■■■ RAD!”

No. The game is a piece of ■■■■. This whole mentality of seeing people who negatively review a game as just haters, review bombers, and ■■■■■■■■, is a piss poor excuse. The majority of us who say the game is bad have given SO MANY reasons, SO MANY times, and are at the point of saying “■■■■ it” just say negative things without explaining.

No one at TC cares. They’ve made that abundantly clear. I mean, look at the forums. They’d rather respond and take into account people ON TWITTER before the forum they created for the game.

Also, these “cries” cause it doesn’t fit their preference. What even is that? Those preferencea came from people who’ve been playing since 2006. While people’s opinions shouldn’t necessarily be held in a higher standard, I think people who’ve been playing since G1 (no, NOT the remaster) should be held a bit higher than those who joined now or in G4.

Lastly, these “reviews” on metacritic and other sites, most of the time aren’t from real fans. People who played from the beginning. And sure as hell didn’t have to deal with all the issues post launch. They played it when it had maybe a few thousand people, beat the campaign, and moved on.

Facts man. WE GET IT there’s issues. But Gears 2 was FAR worse at launch. No one seems to know that. Gears 5 will improve but the negativity spreading is more whining than anything. Not constructive at all it’s stupid. Review bombing cause you dislike a few aspects of multiplayer is pathetic. The Camaign is phenomenal and the overall package is still great for its value. It just needs patching now.

Once again GEARS 2 had an even worse launch that Gears 5. If many of you self claim your fans “since 2006” then you’d know they can turn this around big time. Shut up and keep your whiny complaining to yourself

In this day and age triple a games should not be this ■■■■■■■ terrible. How can you compare the launch of gears 5 to gears 2 when that came out almost 11 years ago? I don’t get how this ■■■■ is acceptable and people just say give it time it will get better.

Okay, look here. I’m a fan, I’ve been a fan. Gears is my second favorite series but I cannot, in good conscious, rate this game higher than a 2.25. Why? It’s broken. I tried to participate in Early Access, it didn’t run for most of the time. I tried to get through the campaign, it didn’t track properly. I had to go back to earn my achievements which didn’t unlock. My collectibles didn’t track, the game continued to freeze. I couldn’t get to the end of it because I kept getting kicked to the menu or dropped. Co-Op didn’t work as intended, I tried to play it with my husband on several occasions and it didn’t work as it should.

Again, my achievements weren’t unlocking. It took 3 to 5 days for achievements to show up. I couldn’t even touch ranked for the longest time because of the glitches, drops, and the flashbangs. God, the flashbangs! (Yes they’ve been fixed since, but that’s only the tip of the iceberg). The inverse omen was a horrible implementation. It blocks my vision and I wind up fightin it more than other players. I’ve been dropped from lobby after lobby, can’t join lobbies, been in high ping servers when my normal ping is about 8 to 10 and I jump up to as high as 100.

Horde is just sad. The hero system takes away player freedom of choice in a huge way. It’s 10 steps back from its predecessors. I can’t choose my character and class, I’m forced into characters I don’t like. No duplicate characters makes for a whole bunch of quitters and it’s hard to actually enter a lobby and keep a game going unless you go on groups. It took me 3 to 4 hours one day to actually find and stay in a match.

Escape is fun at its core, but it suffers from repeated tilesets and people who don’t want to work as a team.

Of course, the campaign was fun when it worked but the fact is the game suffers from piss-poor judgment calls, releasing an unfinished product, and the only thing that really works is the overpriced store that shouldn’t even exist in a $60+ retail game! TC dropped the ball. You can enjoy the game, but don’t say that people with legitamate reasons aren’t thinking logically. I’ve played the game, I’ve beaten the game, I’ve put time into it and I can conclusively say that it’s a broken mess and deserves every bit of the 2.25 score I give it. The critics are wrong.

Your reasoning is actually a bit off. And the way you just replied shows pretty well that you’ve got some issues that aren’t resolved by playing a video game. Take a breather, it might help more than sulking in your own pity.

If you - which as you say it is - are so certain that TC doesn’t give a toss, why bother being on the forums?

Maybe in hopes that TC does listen to some things being said? Even if there has not been any communication in a while I’m pretty sure Octus reads these forums from time to time. But a lot of people just seem to complain to complain currently.

Regarding the overall topic, I’d have given this game a 3.5 star rating myself, as it plays fairly well and can be quite fun when it does work, and when things are working as they should be(not getting screwed by servers, most notably), but issues still exist, and I’m not sold on the hero system yet - I don’t mind it in Escape as much, though I wouldn’t mind having more than 3 [Gears] characters available in it even if it is technically based off of a lore element(which is somewhat thrown out the window by the presence of Halo characters and Sarah Connor…), but in Horde I’m not the biggest fan of it due to the restrictions it brings and very limited character selection often leading to conflicts to who’s who. But that’s more of a subjective issue so I’m giving it time to see if it improves with time as TC add more characters to the modes.

Though I would also wish some rebalancing to the higher Horde difficulties to make them less of a chore and grind/bore where JD just mindlessly spams Lancer GL grenades all over the place while Del builds Sentries, lockers and barriers with a Forge first, while Jack just melts down weapons for more power and Kait and player 5 are basically just there to help get past the early waves and sit around later on if things go south.

Oh, and fix some Horde(unbreakable Level 3+ barriers when you make it so they look red, but they will still block enemies and not take damage when hit) and Escape(infinite grenades) exploits.

They do care. The level of detail in the campaign should make that abudently clear. The collectibles that correlate to a cool Easter egg.

I wouldn’t respond to the vast majority of these threads, Node zero did to one and got butchered for it. He has replied since. Does that say something? Yes, it was deserved criticism, but it was largely unconstructive criticism. Which is a lot of what the forums are.

The game is buggy. The game has got design flaws. But is it a 2.8 star? Probably not in my opinion. I’d give it a 3.5, but not a 2.8.

Escape is fun. The campaign is fun and very good (imo). Horde is meh and VS is bad for me. Campaign and Escape is about 3 stars, and the other 0.5 for VS and Horde.

It’s at this point where I would like to give individual ratings to different modes, because some are much better than others.

Them fixing the bullet magnetism shows that they do listen.

But saying it’s abundantly clear they don’t listen, yet complaining nonstop feels like a waste of time, no?

I personally think they do listen, otherwise bullet magnetism wasn’t to be fixed either. But if I knew they wouldn’t listen i most certainly wouldn’t complain. Because that’s literally a waste then.

True. And they did also nerf Flashbangs in Versus after people complained enough about them. Now I also wish for them to do some more exploit fixing in Horde and Escape as well as rebalancing higher difficulties(which are things I added in on my previous post, if it didn’t get noticed).

Versus is a 1 for me but that can change very fast depending on how the fixes turn out, the rest a 4. Horde escape and campaign are very solid, albeit horde is a bit too easy, yet too time consuming to justify to the lack of rewards you get. I enjoy the hero system. Making it atleast a 3.3+.

Kait can do as much damage as jd if not more.

The campaign is good, but it’s broken for some, my achievement for completion is still stuck at 86% despite 3 playthroughs, it’s not fun doing that and not getting the achivement. I gave this game 2 stars on my Xbox store. 2.8 is about right imo. Games got potential, but there are too many issues. As I said in my review, if they fix it I’ll amend my rating.

Yes… but she doesn’t have a grenade that can be spammed anywhere with little heed to where it goes so long as it lands near the enemy. That’s what makes the difference for me, her damage is mostly single target focused and has to be aimed a little more carefully as opposed to easy to hit massive AOE damage. Kinda boring to be hitting a target only for more Lancer GL spam to come from behind you and kill it.

Back on the topic of TC listening, I’m not sure if they listen on everything though. But I can’t yet tell if some of the complaints people have about things will really turn out as badly for this game/franchise as some make it out to be.

They don’t have to listen to everything. That’s impossible because you have person A who enjoys a feature, person B who doesn’t. That’s subjective.

Im fully on board with them addressing facts first and then looking at the subjective parts.

However, I’ve said this before in an other post, they need to communicate more. Be more transparent on what they’re focusing.
