100% spot on OP
The Magic dev talks about lots of stuff (1 hour long so don’t expect you to watch it, great video though) but one of his main points is that customers are great at identifying problems but awful of thinking up solutions, its why we get trash remakes every single Gears game, because fans think a fun map in Gears 2 deserves a remake without putting any thought into whether or not it would work.
mutators have been heavily requested since launch, I’m aware that you may not care about them but lots of folks do. Batista part is weird but probably more due to Batista than fans (its a pet project
)
I remember that there was a poll done in Gears 3 where Epic asked the community what they wanted in terms of XP progression, 1 month won. What happened later is that for all those people that asked for a 1 month long XP system left and played other games, long term fans didn’t feel properly rewarded because they reached max rank in a couple of weeks, which was how the Re-up system came about btw.
Gears fans have big hearts, but they have a history of asking for stupid crap more often then not, like all I’ve been begging for for months is some new modifiers (for Horde mainly), rework some of the existing (trash tier) characters, maybe give us some sort of reason to go back and play Campaign again (which they’re doing), everybody else has huge and complex desires ranging from pointless to extremely time consuming.
If you want me to give a rundown of remakes I can but jesus, Epic/TC have made lots of awful remakes and it all comes down to fan x thinking map y is great but really it was trash from the start.
Edit: my point is that the most obvious fix isn’t necessarily the right one, and that devs need to have some tact when making decisions that effect everyone, this isn’t Burger King where if one person complains you just give them deal or whatever, any decisions impacts lots of people and so they need to put some thought into it.
Accurate 100% but I do think there should be some balancing act with balancing their ideas and customer opinions. All I know is that I’m not getting what I want which is a harder version of escape with 2-3 additional modifiers.
sound like a masochist to me
I mean if you want somebody to inflict pain onto you I don’t think a videogame is the right way to go about it
Escape is tricky I think, most of the hives that were created were made with a much smaller roster in mind, its why most of the OP1 hives are an absolute joke and why OP4 has some of the most challenging. I also don’t know what exactly they are planning, they mentioned a long time ago (1 or 2 months IIRC) that they were planning on removing Ironman entirely from Escape (due to those stupid loading screens) and its safe to assume that anything they replace it with is going to make the experience more challenging (I’ve been thinking they’ll do a 3 strike rule or something) but regardless Escape is more finely tuned and requires lots of extra time to balance I feel.
Adding 1 more modifier to every Escape would probably take longer than adding 5 or something to all Horde maps for example, its because Escape is more hive to hive whereas Horde is generic.
It would be like if they were to add a mutator for each specific chapter of Campaign, would’ve taken far longer I suspect.
Like for hypotheticals if I were given the reigns and had to add 1 more modifier to each hive it would probably take me 2 or 3 months, because I’d have to replay a hive 2 or 3 times on Master to get a feel for it, then I’d have to think of what modifier would make the most sense, how the meta might evolve, etc. Whereas with Horde it would take like 2 or 3 weeks and I could add many more lol, I’m not saying any of this in any way to imply I’m opposed to them adding more modifiers to Escape, I’m just saying that its easier said than done.
Honestly, why don’t you make a video about it and send it to Dana? Or Sara?
they won’t listen to me (I’m just a bluejay) but they might value a content creator idk.
I would say Sera(not Sara) is keeping a close eye on feedback threads, or posts. If you feel the need you can also tag her(or the PvE lead) but it won’t guarantee a response.
Saying they won’t listen isn’t entirely true. Given that it’s not just content creators who get to voice things to TC(although I do get that they seem to have somewhat more of an influence, I doubt they’re the only ones TC listen to).
that video (posted yesterday) got over 300 views, obviously nothing too mindblowing in terms of Youtube standards, but I’m going to take a wild guess and say that his videos get far more attention than anything I post about on the forums lol, if you recall Dana pretty much remembers almost every content creator and regularly watches them, I would be shocked if he could remember 5 forum posters off the top of his head (that weren’t also content creators)
I’m not saying any of this to be rude or insulting to anybody, I’m just saying that of course TC would show preferential attention towards content creators, they’re doing their job right in that sense.
My point is that if you are a content creator and you want something done do something about it, like I doubt anybody at TC is as good at Escape as @TurnerBurner922 so it would be helpful if he could give some insights or suggestions on the matter. Most TC devs probably have to use a mix of data and research (they probably watch people play Escape on Youtube for example) and don’t have a great deal of firsthand knowledge/experience.
There’s a reason that pros are typically valued in terms of PvP, its because they know what they’re talking about lol. Likewise, I suspect they value a great Horde/Escape player far more than someone that never plays it.
If they want to do this cross over / promotional stuff just do absurd stuff, at least it would be funny (and aren’t games meant to be “fun”)?
Zach Galifianakis Marcus, why not?
I wasn’t disagreeing with this. But Sera is basically there to monitor the forums and pass on relevant feedback if she sees it. Heck, you can even ask her yourself if you want.
Having said that, given the variety of opinions around here I wouldn’t be surprised if TC sometimes had a hard time deciding what was worth keeping and what’s worth throwing out(Blood Drive anyone?). Particularly when it comes to the ever popular subject of balance/nerfs/buffs.
Who’s going to pay him?
Batista (from what I gather) did this for free, or to put it differently out of love for the games
Good luck getting anyone else.
I’ve mentioned a few things on discussion videos but I’m far from where I eventually want my channel to be but I am pleased with my progress to this point. Escape is new unlike PVP. A lot of popular PVP channels that is recognized by TC have over 100,000 subs but they have been around since gears 1 or 2.
Regardless of skill it’s about being popular unfortunately so someone with more subs will always be more idolized regardless of the quality of their ideas. So to be “heard” I probably need to achieve at least 50k subs.
I could be wrong though.
I actually think balancing is easier than what you might expect, now I’m not a guru in terms of data but I’m sure that TC gets tons of it to give them ideas as to what is/isn’t optimal, granted anecdotal still plays a role (if Marcus solo running on Master wasn’t enough to convince you that he was broken I don’t what is) but balancing is probably one of the easiest things that TC does. The great thing about it is that it only gets easier/more obvious with time
Gears of War is extremely unpopular, both in terms of content and just in general, you’d be lucky to hit 10k in any video you make about Gears 5. Still though… 23rd most popular content creator>bluejay any day lol.
If you are trying to make a living Gears isn’t the series for you, so I’d just make stuff for fun or because its important to you. Gears is a friends and family game at this point, and your a part of it now lol.
Solo runs are more a validation of individual skill than anything else. Now if like 200 people can do the same thing, I’d agree but if only like 5 people can do it no severe changes need to be made.
Juvies are a testament that they don’t always get it right. They’ve been ridiculous since… well, Gears 4. But mostly on the difficulties where they down players in 1-2 swipes and in Horde proceed to instantly execute the downed player. Such fun.
Well, and Lahni since she’s almost useless against Juvies after they fixed Thrill and she generally feels far weaker than should be the case when you’re standing next to bleeding enemies.
And not delving into the extreme end. There’s a few things I could find there. Marcus only got borked when they decided to buff him for no reason, I find. Rarely if ever heard complaints he was OP or broken before Op 4.
Although I’ll say it, salvos in the hands of enemies are completely absurd in Escape. They’re worse than flipping Boomshots in Horde and obliterate almost anything in one shot. I’ve only seen Coles with 95% damage resistance or the Silverback survive a single shot… and the second usually ends up in a down or destruction.
I’m definitely not a balance genius either but I think I have a good enough understanding to at least somewhat know when something is maybe a tad bit powerful, too weak or outright broken. Like Fahz in Escape may be a little strong when compared to the sniper build on Paduk, or Mac(excluding specialization of roles). Or the EMBAR as a weapon feels a bit meh and would not be used by many if anyone without its active reload stun. I certainly barely see anyone bother with the weapon nowadays unless they’re Baird.
I guess I’ll just see how everything progress over time. I’m not expecting anything quick.
That’s the joy of a class system. And it’s off-topic.
I can’t stop laughing at the Eddie Murphy cole part XD
Brilliant. Now all we need is Rey Mysterio to make everyone happy. With his 619 execution on horde.
I for sure could give a ■■■■ less about this. Will never play with him. He is not Marcus so stupid. If I was literally a movie sure that would be cool. But there was literally no need for all this work.
@Clutch_HanZ I too posted about this. I have no problem with Dave Bautista. I just think letting hin redo all the voice lines is A) unnecessary waste of resources, and B) ■■■■■ on all John DiMaggio’s excellent work. Marcus Fenix is Gears of war. Marcus Fenix voice is a HUGE part of Marcus. I mean i cant even really relate in words just how strongly I feel about how good Johns voice work is. There is a saying that goes if it aint broke…dont fix it. I think this is applicable. And I too have wondered how this came to be. Articles Ive read said this was the result of a fan driven campaign. Ive never seen anything anywhere about fans clamoring for this. Maybe I just missed it.
