I beat the game, and during my first veteran mission one of the hero units died. I opted to reload from checkpoint, but the game crashed in the attempt. Now, trying to load my save results in a crash. There’s no error code, just the generic Windows “program has stopped responding” dialogue box.
Has anyone else seen this and found a workaround? I wanted to see how the Veteran loop played out, but I’m not really interested in playing through the entire campaign again to find out.

Hey @HardPax - I posted this in another thread, but didn’t think to revisit this one:
On a lark, I checked the save game folder (found the location in an earlier thread on this forum: “Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\YourUserIDNumbersHere\1184050\remote”). It looks like they don’t overwrite saves immediately, Based on the time stamp in game, I was able to ID which save it thought was the one to use (for whatever reason there was a 1 hour difference between the game’s time stamp, and the date modified of the save file). In my case, it was “GearGameSaveGame_Slot_3”. I renamed this to “GearGameSaveGame_Slot_3_old”, and then copied the “GearGameSave_Slot_2” file, pasted it, and renamed it to “GearGameSaveGame_Slot_3”.
The game loads fine now, though it’s from mission start instead of the checkpoint I crashed on. A little lost progress, but the same mission at least.
It seems this game has much issues with save game (see mine here: Corrupted save ! pleas help) and seems also that developers just completely don’t care while those are very critical issues imho…
As for the workaround mentioned by @RichardWolves it for steam only. This who are using Microsoft Store or Gamepass like me have no solution…
