This Week in Gears: November 24 - 30

That and splitting maps between Overrun and regular versus which made fans of either side stuck with a low map rotation

@TC_Sera

Any word in TC possibly rereleasing chrome steel skins? Theres 2 or 3 that I missed in the past (Mah beautiful Scion) and would happily spend money to get.

Or perhaps having a wide selection to choose from, instead of waiting two weeks for a single new character?

Thanks!

I don’t see the appeal of chrome steel, personally. But the one-per-two-weeks thing is intentional, to give people a fear of missing out and encourage them to buy it before they lose their chance-- even if they didn’t really want it that much.

They’ll probably make them all more available toward the end of Gears 5’s lifespan, like they did with black steel in Gears 4.

The answer I recieved so far on the devstreams is that they consider the answer to this “future content”.

I get that, but OP4 pretty much abandoned the whole FOMO system they had going on. You can now go into the store and purchase almost everything that was for sale or obtainable in ToDs…so why not chrome steel characters? Doesnt make much sense to me, but oh well.

@HerrKatzchen ah. Love Dana’s “we cant talk about future content” line

Because one doesn’t equate the other. They likely felt that they’d dipped too hard into the FOMO by applying it to their entire store, and their overall sales suffered. Nothing feels premium if everything is premium. So keep some things, like the chrome steel, feeling exclusive while making the rest just… in the store. Financially, it makes more sense than how they had it before.

:man_shrugging: Still aggravating if you want them, I get it.

Pretty silly.

People love to be hyped & pumped.

They should change that…

They would still be premium in my book. You’re using real world money ($13 here in Canada) to purchase them and not Gear Coins like regular items. People like myself and others are willing to spend money to purchase old chrome steel skins that haven’t been available for over a year, back when they cycled them on a weekly basis instead of two.

This money isn’t going to them, anyways. It’s going towards the eSports scene, so it wouldn’t be hurting their bottom line at all. Rereleasing skins would only help that scene.

The least they could do is instead of having to wait two weeks for a new character, use one of those weeks to rerelease an older skin. That sounds like a good start to me.

You sound like me

Ok.

I have to address this.

While I don’t disagree deep down, I also like for a company to keep their word. It’s about trust.

I’m curious though why achievements matter to you and not skins? They aren’t necessarily the same, but in this case the skins were earned like achievements.

While everyone’s world would still turn either way with the black phantom skins, same is true whether some past achievements are ever made achievable again or not.

I mean… that’s basically my point?

You did read my post correctly, right? I’m not mad about TC trying to make POP more achievable for anyone who has not paid, even though I spent tons of money.

I also don’t have Sybarite from Judgement, which is the only Gears achievement I cannot obtain. Sure, I make a comment about it every now and then, but it’s nothing like what’s in this thread.

I like getting achievements in games, especially Gears games. But I don’t lose my mind if something becomes unobtainable or becomes easier for people later down the road.

I don’t know who has lost their mind. People seem to just be speaking their minds. Passionately of course. Maybe gamers take the hobby too serious?

Man… I really need to stop slightly exaggerating things on this forum I suppose.

Put the Black Phantom skins in the store to be bought with iron. You gain money and i gain content. It will be dumb to reject this opportunity.

Indeed! Black phantom in exchange for iron please!

Yea, but it’s one thing to sell pre order items and things that sold for higher prices, it’s another when an item is sold from a previous game that we were told “this will always be exclusive to the ppl who unlock it now and this is the only way to get it.” All things being sold at lesser prices at later dates has been a common thing in business and shopping for as long as I’ve been alive and far longer than that. There’s no comparison to “I bought it a year ago for more money, why is it sold for pennies now” kind of stuff.

It’s just like buying the iPhone 12. You know at some point when the iPhone 15 is out, the 12 will cost A LOT less. The 12 is expensive now, but it won’t always be. Same goes for things ppl buy at top dollar in game. Also, TC never promised “sold items” will always be high priced later down the road. They did however promise the gears 4 gilded/exclusive content would always stay exclusive in 5 as a show of thanks to the ppl who supported gears 4.

Lastly, idk why you’re using the “if you actually read my comment” line cause I did. Some things are sacred, some aren’t. If you put in the time to grind an exclusive from the last game, and again, we were told it’d remain exclusive, that should be honored. No one ever said expensive store items would stay expensive… it’s common sense that things depreciate over time, even in-game content, so again, comparing the two are just two totally different things that aren’t even on the same level.

Yes, I do. I @‘d his name as well so Michael would see the reference so that he’d know I wasn’t badmouthing him, I was directing it at Octus. I’m well aware he’s been gone for months now.

If you’re well aware of that, you should also be well aware of the fact he doesn’t have access to the TC_Octus forum account because it’s a company account. Since he’s no longer employed by TC, he no longer has access to the account. My whole point was that it was pointless to tag Octus because he won’t see the notification. lol
