This Week in Gears: February 2nd to 8th

I am glad in my own way that they did it. Stops some hosts getting bossy now they cant tell everyone what to do. Now people won’t feel like they have to do things or get kicked because someone put it in the chat. Now they will not get bossed about or told what to do because they cannot see the messages. Yeah it could lead to getting kicked straight up. But tbh i would prefer it than some lame message in the chat.

From my own experience which is why i don’t go in matches with bossy hosts who want everything done their way or the highway is because the last time i did, I was a Jack in Horde, guy brought a forge and kept putting messages about forging things which i was doing and kept picking at every little thing i was doing in the match talking about me with his mate on the text chat nothing nice no reason for it in the end i had enough of it and i left, blocked and reported on xbox.

I would not wish that experience on anyone. If TC think they should stop the text chat i think i would be happy with it. If i had that option back then i wouldn’t have felt as bad as i did and could have just enjoyed the game but that person didn’t make it possible.

Pause game - open profile -send private message. It’s just extra steps for no reason that will take even more time than before; especially since no one owns a keyboard so they actually have to pause the game.

I did that after.

Called him out for the lot of it :smirk: then reported him. :smirk:

Not fond of Boss Rush right now. Too easy for a Demo to just camp in a corner marking enemies then pushing a button to drop nukes on them. Definitely going to play it without one if I try the mode again so it isn’t a boring chore… well, that and when I’m not tired.

Ok accepted, why not just make it opt out then ?
If you don’t want to see the messages turn them off.
If course the person could always still kick you either way.

Thats the idea. Now you CAN turn the messages off and better to be kicked than spoken to like a piece of ****

Couldn’t you always and they just changed the default setting.
If not, then good add, but it should be default on, and people that don’t want to see the text should turn it off.

Would be the same as it is now. From what people are saying.

They think no one knows they have the option to turn the text chat on now but its default off.

If it was default on people would not know that they have the option to turn it off so it goes both ways really.

Better to be off completely and not know i think than the other way around.

Tbf who seriously who is into this game haven’t saw the forums, the twitter, the news on the game all telling them.

I just went on to the game earlier and that screen came up straight away about the chat.

You could set it to 0 seconds, effectively disabling it.

Exactly this, I had a host pause the game about 50 times today because quite obviously he was trying to type a message and couldn’t work out why he couldn’t.

It’s the most backward fix.

Solution for an issue no one complained about. The option to turn off game-chat was always there. If someone was that bothered he could just turn it off.

This whole thing just shows how little TC thinks of their core-playerbase. Apparently we’re all filth to them.

@TC_Kilo1062 I know this is probably too much to ask for since even scrapping is too hard to implement but could we at least get an indicator for players that have their game-chat turned off? Something like the PC-icon in lobbies but instead a crossed keyboard or something like that? Would make it easier to kick these people from my lobby then.

Most players don’t even read lobby titles either. It’s like Coalition don’t play their own game to know this. Gears 4 game chat was a mess too.

Alright so my first initial Boss Rush game was a fluke because every other game afterwards has been ending in failures. As always I get paired with teammates who aren’t as clever as they assume.

At least as of yesterday evening, the change in the text box default setting is one of the items in the Message of the Day.

They are making that knowledge accessible to everyone.

Edit- Regardless on what side of the fence you’re on, it is there. I’m glad TC did take the time to do that

Alright brings me back to the point how gamers got so angsty about other random people online,
I mean text chat/Blocking people/Reporting has been working for ages and still does in other games.
(As does voice chat, although I only use that with friends of if more complex coordination is needed).
In your case,
I would simply leave the lobby, why would I want to play with people that want me to play in a way I don’t want to ? Vice versa as host I would simply kick you if I can’t tell you what I would like.
That seems pretty easy.

Anyways done is done I hope it get’s changed but at the moment it seems this (M/R) Game is headed towards a G rating, this change certainly is going there.(ok maybe PG-13)
Which ironically gives me bad backflashes to the WWE(Gee maybe the WWE is the reason here lol) and their going PG…
It’s been an uninteresting Kindergarden shortly after.(At least before they sometimes had interesting Stunts)

Yeah that is a step up.

Who ever that host was, must not know much about the game when it is literally all over the forums about this text chat stuff it even tells you in game.

I would have left that lobby after the first 3 pauses or less. Hate it when hosts keep pausing or pause at all really there are 4 other people waiting to play. Nothing though on hosts in lobbies who just for whatever just like to sit there in the lobby and not start, what could they possibly be doing why open up a match then **** off :expressionless:

Also, the difficulty mutators for Boss Rush are coming up blank now.

That is exactly it, i don’t join any matches with demanding titles. Like “Deposit” for instance. I would rather be kicked than hear what **** someones wants to say to me as its only going to be some one throwing orders about. Plus most people nowadays are smart enough to know what the host is after without communication especially when working with randomers you have to be able to read peoples gameplay styles.

I hope they stick to their decision if people want the game chat on they turn it on its quite simple. Younger people do play the game even though they shouldnt it is age restricted and they might not know how to turn off the game chat, its how cyberbullying starts its better to not hear the bully at all than not be able to stop hearing the bully, no one should have to quit out of a game because of text chat.

@HerrKatzchen i do like your idea though of there being indicator of it. For who has or has not got it enabled

Showed the same when I played Boss Rush earlier, but the modifiers were the usual Horde ones.
