I see what you are saying. I have clips were I hit full on shots. Stationary players hard aiming at a teammate and I come up behind. They take that full shot, take the next, and spin and kill me in 1. It may be hard to believe but it happens to all the people I play Gears with and that I know that play Gears. And it is random. A huge reason that people I have played Gears with since 1 just are not playing this one a lot.
I would say they do not eat the shot so much. The game literally will take a point blank shot and not count all or up to most of hit. Even with a full hit. And it will take misses to partial misses and give a full hit. Saw a couple videos directly demonstrating it. Hard to deny that when the evidence was right there.
Literally live clips were I have shot and then dove and went into cover. Player shot were I had been and kills me. The ■■■■ does not even line up. Never had THAT in Gears 4. In the same match I had a player slide to the other side of the column and pop a shot around it. I was fully behind it on the other side. And somehow, like magic, this player downs me. None of the shot could have killed me.
I am not complaining with this. But here is my opinion. Given I do have a background in coding and such stuff. But I think the problem started in Gears 4. From the beginning people would talk about that random damage, those shots that would visibly hit and not count, and much more like this. The problem lasted up until the last day before Gears 5 hit. Reason, hard coded in the game. What I mean is that it would take extensive reworking of the game to get it fixed. They either A) did not identify the problem at all or B) identified it too late for that much work to be worth it.
I side with A because surely they would have fixed it with 5 if they could. So what they did was add in things to try and cover it up. In Gears 4 I have tons of videos from friends I play with showing full on lancer hits that the other player would run through. And they get killed by a gnasher and the game would say 5 hit or some random junk for 55%. All while we would down from a quick 11 hits. Same in Gears 5 at times. Did it happen all the time in 4? No, and same with 5. This stuff sort of tries to cover that up. But things were made worse.
In the modes with no assist turned on I see it more and more easily. I have downed players almost instantly with the “OP” lancer. Only to have the next match take a more than a full mag. And we are talking showing hits, hits that show in the video, AND a teammate shooting them. No way the player should have been able to fully run away the way they did. The player ran in a straight line even.
Yeah, plenty have played since Gears 1 days. Gears 1 had that host advantage that some try and play down. I would rather have that compared to some of the issues I get here.
And let me say this. I love Gears as a franchise. I am glad for Game Pass Ultimate and that 3 years I got free. Free because my time with Live and Game Pass was through rewards and gifted time from MS. I just could not see myself buying this. I would have. The biggest redeeming thing right now is the campaign. I always love the campaigns in these.
Let the “whiners” voice their legitimate concerns. And hopefully this game gets made great.
