The Problem with the Gnasher in Gears 5

The Gnasher now only has room for 6 shells, and will only reload 3 if an active reload is missed.

The Gnasher’s ability in this game has been severely hampered, beyond the damage model. Long term players’ muscle memory needs to adjust to this change in a multiplayer environment where simple mistakes will DBNO you in seconds. This is forgivable on its own, but coupled with the scarcity of shells in the loaded gun, it’s a very unwelcome change. I shouldn’t have to struggle to get a close quarters double kill because of the Gnasher damage and it’s available ammunition… It’s a shotgun.

I’m not sure why I don’t see many posts about this. I understand having a more universal choice of weapons, but what has been done to the Gnasher is a cardinal sin and very un-intuitive to say the least.

I posted and posted about this right away during the tech test. It’s another change to make the rifle the stronger and more useful weapon. The game is just designed differently.

People don’t have the foresight for these things. Many people are just now complaining about the aim-assist or things like the ToD/store, when we already knew how it was gonna be.

People don’t react till they get hit in the face.

I think it’s easier to form a hate mob derived of community outrage than it is to actually dissect and discuss a problem and its solution.

I didn’t even notice this, what is wrong with the coalition? Rod got his stabilisers mode in the game with arcade, why are they butchering the normal MP?

In my opinion, the other weapons are already strong enough in Gears 5. Meaning this change didn’t even need to be implemented as the weapons would be very competitive with each other anyway.

Gears was always meant to be a close quarters combat type of game. The original developers even said “if you want a long ranged game go play Halo.” Well now you can just play that garbage here. Close combat and that trigger finger excitement is what made gears what it is. This whole nerfing the shotgun and buffing the lancer is total trash.

Also, I shouldn’t hit someone point blank with a shotgun and do “94% damage!” Who’s half brained idea was that. This game needs fixed and I’m so sick of hearing that they made these changes to appeal to the ‘casual gamer,’ that’s what Fortnight and those other garbage games are for.

And lastly, I thought they fixed the shotgun consistancy issues in gears 4 to the point that the game was actually working. This game is the most inconsistent piece of garbage I have ever played. If they cant fix these issues I will never play this franchise again. I played sind the launch date of gears (the original) and havent stopped since, but the past few releases have been terrible and they keep tweaking this game torwards the people who want it to be like COD…

I just want them to have the old active reload back, especially in co-op AI, story, and horde. I don’t like this whole ‘Active cooldown bar’. It’s not about balance, it’s about pushing off their own agenda and hoping we’ll agree with it. Ew.

Ima rant a bit because Gears 3 was a big part of my life before college I’m gonna state whats wrong in my opinion.

I stopped playing this game after gears 4,
Everything in gears 5 just seems wrong. The User interface, no social playlist where you can choose the game type you want. No Execution, the very backbone of gears multiplayer, Shots come out the screen not the gun itself.

They had a good recipe with gears 3 in terms of movement and weapon feel. Now it feels like I’m blasting people with nerf bullets.

Not just shells is the problem. The GIB range is the biggest issue. Aim assists in rank is an issue… Hit box is way to big is another issue. Poke damage is too strong is another issue. There are a lot of problems with the gnasher.
