Bioware did it to themselves but when EA is beating down your door you can either join willingly and have a few good years making games or you can be bent over a barrel and screwed with no lube having the worst treatment possible,
Very few companies can refuse EA, and if your not big enough to repel them EA will do a hostile take over.
