The Big Tuning Thread

They also said in the stream right after that as far as multiplayer goes it has remained consistently the same amount of players playing or gone up maybe a hair which is why I questioned them saying majority of people were happy with it and the pros like it and such so much because that’s not what I saw.

I dunno I feel like one universal tuning in ranked would be better honestly especially long term. However, they should make another tuning available in customs to use for pros and the like.

I’m not sure how other games do it, but maybe would be beneficial to have that back for certain modes like escalation. If this was a game that was doing well with a large amount of people playing and enough to support an esports scene and welcome players to it, having the same tuning for esports scene mode and ranked escalation mode could be good.

Far as new player frustrations they already have bootcamp and quick play and the like I feel, adding a different tuning to that might be more frustrating because if they want to try out ranked it’ll be balanced differently.

I’m not sure how effective it would be for different tunings for a mode like arms race though but maybe it would still be good if there were two.

There’s no way I see them making two tunings this game especially when they set out to since 4 to get a universal tuning for this game.

Plus every tuning, weapons and the like have to be balanced. I wish they could have built off 4 everything worked pretty great, they did get better on many things like movement but that’s gone to waste.

Either way this tuning we have right now I don’t see being that good in general if we did have two tunings maybe with some changes ide consider it.

TC apparently has future projects to announce if it’s another game I really hope they can be set on what direction they want to go with tunings with each mode, and the weapons. I’m hesitant to even play another gears game at launch or a year in cause of all the constant changes… especially since gears games don’t last as long :frowning:

They need to have a good basis first, no more beta testing at launch and over a year and a half into the game, they ought to get actual people testing their games aside from the game designers or pros and not beta testing they did at the start of the game either.

I’ve seen a trend of games coming out with demos and the like before the game is released so people can play and give feedback or instances where specific people are asked like the insider program does or you can sign up and get paid to test to give feedback.

I just hope they have more variety next game, people that actually play the game as a whole, campaign, pvp, pve because it’s clear they didn’t know a lot from the streams, we need someone or several people on the team that understands what works and doesn’t, and what is a good experience and isn’t, and what makes gears.

I feel like some people are honestly so addicted they buy into the current tuning being great just to keep playing.

I just can’t respect this move. For those that practice to perfect hyper bounce for over a year it’s utterly disappointing.

Mastering hyper bounce was like going Ui … it was the ultimate form of bounce, strafe, coordination & by no means easy.

This who claim all you do is tap the “A” button clearly never tried to hyper bounce or you’ll realize very quickly that’s not at all how you actually hyper bounce.

At such precision speed you have to have supreme blind fire aim, which takes many months of practice to even be considered good.

All because some players didn’t want to learn defense or offense of the hyper bounce.

There was so much culture to the hyper bounce. You had to have all the basics down to even conduct an effective hyper bounce.

Lesser players swear that tapping the “A” button is so scary. I’ve had players try to mimic the hyper bounce & they go so crazy they make themselves vulnerable to pop shot.

I don’t want to play something that strips me of my style of game play because some pro player got beat by a hyper bouncer & realized there could be players out there who aren’t pro that can beat him.

They watered it down because players were actually making a name for themselves & some pro was so insecure that he wanted to remain in his bubble of game play which is why the Gears of War 2 style is back.

A damn shame.

In all. It’s stupid to trash a style of game play because you don’t want to put in the time, energy, & effort to enhance your game play.

I have seen so many people saying “I’ll still play regardless of what TC do because it’s Gears” (For years, not just Gears 5)

Now look at what we have to accept. Teminators, Halo, Wrestlers, Batista Bomb, Justin Bieber.

If people will accept THAT as “Gears” then you have no hope of wishing people would see a bad tuning when they get force fed it.

Just watched pk versus fire and ice .
All I can say is watching it is absolutely mind numbing to watch .
For movement now hardly anyone roadie runs they just tap a to slide into every wall as it’s quicker
No one back A’s no more
The melee knife is op as hell
The retro is op as hell
Plus fire and ice won. You can tell pk struggled as they have been restricted to this bad movement tuning .
Also instead of air cancel shot off a wall you can air knife off a wall which has a lock on of 60 degrees I think which is a absolute joke in my eyes.
This tuning has killed gears off big time

IDK I haven’t been watching the dev streams either.

I read this statement somewhere on the forums.

If they don’t want to revert the tuning, at least let us use it in private!

Just stop playing the game if you feel this strongly about it.

I have stopped. I tried the other night but I just wasn’t feeling that same feeling… going from hyper bounce to this is a complete night & day contrast.

4 feels a lot smoother for me but I don’t want to play 4 either, I want to play 5 on how it used to be. It’s just my preference of play style…

Esports people swear hyper bouncing isn’t methodical… only when they started getting beat by complete nobody’s they want to revert back to their comfort zone of game play…

Typical esports trash keeping the average player down when we start beating them… not like we want to play esports though & yeah being good at UMG or esports doesn’t mean anything in this game because people don’t really compete anyway.

The ego of the esports scene… maybe a stack of pros losing in a ranked match live on twitch to a pack of nobody’s was just too humiliating but I don’t see why that be humiliating.

Most ranked players can compete in esports but don’t want to or can’t because of real world things going on, it is a game after all.

But let’s suck the fun out in the name of “methodical” BS.

I’ve had some real mythodical gnasher battles in hyper bounce state & that’s the most fun I’ve ever experienced.

When 2 hyper bouncers meet the battle can last up to 30-45 seconds of complete warp speed gnasher hyper strafe, which is so exhilarating. Or it can end real quick with one slip up.

Oh well. Life goes on.

All we can do is not play & ask for it back.

Fix queue …

If people start hyper bouncing at me I’m just gonna hold my shot and gib when they get in chunk range.

It’s not as methodical as you’re implying it to be.

But it’s a staple of gears and IS a clear skill gap that needs to stay in Gears

I respect it & yes that’s one way of defense against a hyper bouncer, I did mention that,

Also depends on the skill level of the hyper bouncer, but completely shelling it out isn’t more methodical either , as TC convinced many it is.

So many people playing Gears hahahahaha

Oh yeah. A weeks ago i send ticket to support with few screenshots. I just waiting what kind of answer they give me. I got neverending queue. I’m new at Gears universe and overall i like Gears but man … this game seems dead.

PS: did staff from TC watched/watch forum topics or something? How they work with community feedback? They listening? o.o

They do read the forums

Also I can already tell you that you will be told that it’s due to your rank and due to you being in an unpopulated area at off peak times.

To which I want you to know that both of these are questionable answers

1 - Masters players can matchmake with the following ranks

Onyx 1, 2, 3, Diamond 1, 2, 3, Masters.

There are plenty of potential ranks for you to find.

2 - Faster Matchmaking in the Matchmaking options should allow you to search for players in other areas of the world, to avoid this issue.

This makes me question the population again.

Totally agree. I’m EU player and i will be definetly ok play on NA servers. I have +/- decent ping on NA. Just let me in: i wanna play! … It’s really weird situation. I know EU region is dead to be honest but man on NA is many player like: casual, ranked warriors and pro players and other stuff. So what’s the problem … :frowning:

PS: did they make community stream or did they talk with community on stream? Or something similiar?

PS2: if i correct understand - this queue issues is long time problem. Right?

PS3: i saw few topics and i feel Gears loosing players? o.o

Yooooo, if the investors at Reddit managed to surge the price of GME by over 300% why can’t we all boycott this game until TC reverts the changes?

I feel like it’s going off topic from the tuning a bit here, but I don’t want to ignore you.

I’m not sure I fully understand this question as it’s answering itself? But yes, TC have been doing weekly community streams for a very long time now, every Thursday. You can find them here.

Gears of War Twitch

Worth noting that Dana was the person who seemed to be in charge of these, I’m unsure how or if these will continue since his departure from TC.

It has been a problem that seems to keep returning. If we’re talking TC created Gears games, this has been my experience.

Gears of War UE

EU Server - Very long matchmaking times.

Server select allowed you to select a region, this would often allow for faster matchmaking if you were to select a region such as USA.

Gears of War 4

Began with the ability to join different regions which allowed for fast matchmaking.

Players in USA complained about this so a region lock was introduced. As a result I was then literally unable to find a match in Escalation / Execution. I was forced into Core (TDM ect). Occasionally this was fast matchmaking however my average seemed to be around 30 minutes to find a match.

Gears 5

Began terrible, a member in my group posted this screenshot in September 2019 which was around the game’s launch. Make of it as you will.

This later greatly improved with the option for players to select “Faster Matchmaking” or “Better Ping” as it would allow players who select “Better Ping” to generally still find faster matches as a result of players from other regions searching for “Faster Matchmaking”. Also, it gave people the option to search for “Faster Matchmaking” should they wish.

Gears 5 then introduced a new rank system which if I remember correctly was Operation 4? Maybe 3. I don’t remember. This was a great change but it launched on a +/- 1 rank system, meaning that as an example, a Gold player could only matchmake with anybody who was Silver 1 through to Onyx 3. This allowed for closer matches. It became clear that this was a problem for people’s matchmaking times, so TC changed the matchmaking to +/-2. Meaning that example Gold player could now find anyone between Bronze 1 through to Diamond 3. In theory this should cover most of the playerbase and eliminate any matchmaking problems.

In my opinion, I am personally confused how that with a +/- 2 matchmaking system that is combined with an option to select to search across all servers. I don’t understand why people are having issues matchmaking if not due to low playerbase. But that’s just how I view it.

Personally I believe they are however other than seeing people stating that they’re giving up, I can’t prove this. I have no figures. People have showed Steam numbers for Gears 5 that would indicate a decline.

I can’t confirm the accuracy of this, I am just relaying on to you what I have seen so please judge it for yourself. I hope that it’s not breaking any rules by sharing this Steam graph, I’m doing so to answer a question in relation to topics this person may have seen. To be clear, this does NOT represent XBL numbers.

TC have recently claimed that since the new tuning, they have not seen a drop in players and they’re likely referring to the Xbox / PC version. That if anything they’ve seen a slight rise in numbers. Personally I believe that the rise in numbers was due to there being a very good free DLC. But that’s again just my opinion.

I hope that answers things for you

Holly molly man. You are my hero. Thank you for your time and especially thanks for answer. I appreciate it.

PS: Sorry for a few offtopic posts from me. Currently i know +/- what’s going on. :sunglasses:

Why not make two tunings for the pro and casual players. I mean it’s a good practice in the long run, you make both parties happy. One party gets the non-competitive side of the game. Where every gun is viable that isn’t the gnasher or power weapons. The other side gets the competitive gnasher duels that they know and love while having that old school feel to it.

I don’t really play gears 5 anymore cause the community is quite toxic and not very open to change, but i would like to see this game do good. I think the movement is fine, Its more slow and methodical, but maybe that’s just me. I don’t know i just wanna take in everyone’s point of view. I see the casual side and competitive side of the argument.
