The Big Tuning Thread

That’s a good clip, already feeling the nostalgia here XD wish I could upload clips easily but Xbox companion on PC doesn’t allow this anymore :frowning:

My only problem with this statement is the new tuning has completely eliminated roadie strafing in my experience. In my first game I essentially pop shotted a bot walker and he shot me almost simultansly but I immediately went into my roadie strafe. I knew my shot wasn’t going to kill them so I started my move sequence. I took one maybe two steps to the right or left and was downed immediately. Now good on him for landing his second shot. But I didn’t even have time to complete my strafe. I was already inputting my inputs to turn back to my opponent to get my second shot off when he downed me and I was still facing in the direction of my strafe. I am a skilled enough player to time the strafe in the time it takes to recock the gnasher. It’s consistently landing that second shot that I’m currently trying to master. This happened multiple times during my first two matches. I shoot strafe then I’m downed. It feels like the time to recock your gnasher has been reduced or your speed of roadie strafing is so slow you can’t counter a second shot. I got annihilated by bot walkers especially in my first match because the roadie strafe just didn’t have the speed to make them miss their second shot.

I hope that makes sense.

To me this is all about to forget the way we used to play at this point , I mean , it is much harder for players that used to strafe, wallbounce, back as up a’s and so on and actually downgrade their skills and adapt to the ‘‘new-old’’ than for new players to actually improv their skills,

the most controversial and hirritating thing is that new players will never learn how to do all the things that I’ve mentioned and this in a long run will replace all of us players that in a way made this game what it is, but I got bad feelings going on… all because new player won’t improve

You can do it from your phone.

“if you ever happened to do PvP (but I doubt so)” … you don’t know me, so to make a comment like that is laughable.

I too, came from Gears 1, I too am a decent player, I too had to learn all the mechanics that were implemented game after game, and you know what? I’m still here, playing the game almost everyday. And even after being a “Vet” player, I STILL prefer the tuning we have now. This tuning changed the way Gears 5 is played. If your play style is making it difficult to slay like you used to, then I’m sorry to say it, but you need to learn and adapt to these changes. Just like all the people that had to learn the new game’s mechanics release after release, treat this as the same. You’re going to have to play differently.

I know I am the odd man out, but I think change is good, and I am having a blast playing in this tuning, and I am far from a bad player.

Not made my mind up yet, In fairness I play 5 so little (3 is my daily go to) I have not “settled” into any system BUT what I have come to say/ask is why am I in ranked matches of Hill, my ping 12-20 playing “Gods” with 1 50,200+ ping.
This totally disrupts any flow I can get going. It is the reason I usually only play 2,3 matches before retiring to 3.

Why they down grade players who actually has played this game since launch ?

And what “New players” , this game is over 1 year and 4 months old , what is the point of this movement nerf , that New players stayed longer , Gears always has things you have to learn and it should be like that , why “punish” fellow gearheads when New players dont wanna learn things ?

" This is not some cod , this is Gears "

It almost feels that way. I mean I get it Gears is a very niche game that has probably one of the highest skill gaps of any versus games that I have played. So getting new players to play their game might be tough But it also provides an experience that I can’t find in another game. There is grinding for achievements or leveling your characters up that you can find in multiple other games. Gears makes you grind to work and develop your skills. That is a grind and provides a real sense of achievement when you see yourself becoming a better player. What hurts the growth of this community is being a brand new player and getting put in lobbies with straight oynx level players and getting wrecked. That happened to me when i first started out on versus. I played with some oynx level players who were my friends, I was brand new, I got wrecked plain and simple and it wasn’t fun. Then i got in with some new players whose skills were more in tune with mine and we grew our skills together. And it was a much more entertaining experience.

agree on the fact I don;t know you but not on the laughable side , I mean it could be arguable but not laughable, it is not a joke.

Tell me, all the players that kind of enjoying the new tuning because they can’t keep up with the old way of playing, have ever adapted to us? What we are witness here is that a substantial change has been made, but this is a feeling that is only felt by players that actually have explored all the gears mechanics and way of playing, and game after game released , the gears community have always suggested to implement some feature to improve and moving forward not backward, so to me this is only to please the players that felt overwhelmed by players that were too ‘‘sweat’’. and do not call it update if we are going backwards

Sweet clip.

Now that that kind of movement isn’t going to be possible anymore, it will force at least some adjustments to how you play. I’ve been doing more strafing/roadie strafing . It definitely feels odd. I’ll just keep playing for a bit and hopefully I can adjust ok.

But that is not skill problem, it like being sent to college while you are starting middle school… but my opinion is like deny new players to improve and arrive to a certain level and cap lock them to remain at the same level. … what’s the point?

I wish people would break down what changed in this update. The movement has BARELY slowed, the biggest change is that you’re a bit heavier now so you don’t reach 100% speed instantly. But the movement is essentially the exact same.

The reason it feels bad is the shot delays, as can be see very very very clearly here. Your controller no longer feels connected to your Gnasher,in turn making Gnasher fights feel pointless because unless you stop moving, your Gnasher won’t fire.

I like the new tuning over what we had before because it makes the game play more like UE.

I don’t understand where people get this idea that it’s just walking and that there’s zero incentive for wall bouncing. You can still wall bounce and it still is effective in Gnasher fights. The only major difference I have had to make to my movement is to “air bounce” less. Like, do that only when you have first fired a shot and your enemy has the next shot. Basically I do that to avoid being hit until I can fire my next shot. When I can fire my next shot I slide all the way into the wall and fire my weapon.
I’ve taken the attitude to play Gears 5 now very much like I played UE (with air bouncing thrown into the mix) and I have found it the most effective.

These bot walkers and air bounce spammers both are the easiest targets.

If I were to put it very bluntly, I’d say that air bounce is first and foremost an evasive maneuver now instead of an offensive one. Wall bouncing on the other hand is the exact opposite.

people want to feel quick and responsive as there’s already lots of complaints about latency and sluggishness.

it’s just so easy to two shot down now.

I find it hilarious that everyone here complaining about the change, is saying “I can’t do X anymore” when in fact YOU STILL CAN!!! Wall bounce, Up A, Back A, Pop Shot… all that ■■■■ you can still do. Only arguable counter is that the Pop Shot delay is super noticeable. Now you have to time your Back A’s, Up A’s, etc. This update’s intention was NOT for non “sweaty” players, because again, believe me or not, I too am considered “sweaty”, and I like these changes.

I also read a post yesterday were someone was literally complaining that these changes were made to “bring in more players”… Now, you tell ME, what community, especially an incredibly small one, does NOT want new players joining their game? Are you satisfied with these numbers? Do you enjoy waiting 2-3 minutes to find a match? Do you enjoy having TC expanding the ranked guidelines so you match with players 2 ranks below you because the player pool is so low? This attitude that everyone has for this game/series is why it fails SO DAMN HARD! On top of TC making dumb decisions by listening to a whining community, which, from what I am reading is NOT the case for this update because apparently, no one wanted it? :upside_down_face:

Make a version of the tuning that is the exact same as this, without shot delays.

I BET YOU that it’d be more popular. (I’ve done a pretty good job at helping you fix the mess you made so far so I must know what I am talking about to some extent?)

This ^ This is a great compromise

Agreed this “New” ranking system is “bad” If you are just starting Gears ,the point system was More fair than this .

Example : if your team has one “high” level player lets say diamond game will search opponents to match his rank , other could be gold , even pronze and worst case scenario pronze player have to play against
3 master player .

Game search ±2 rank to teams highest rank , maybe it should search smaller steps , diamond one should get agaist diamond 3 max.

But i think that player count/base is so low that TC cant make any change on that .

Not as before ergo you can’t do it to be as effective as before. Even a person with a prosthesis can walk/run but not like before.

Check @Livo post and you will feel it in the bones what this delay caused.

so tell me what this is for and for who? because i don’t understand why they made it!
