TC give me some variety in enemies please

I’m meaning the standards of gore & what creative talent could be

But I’d agree Deadspace was inspired by resident evil

Gears of War used to be pretty brutal & id say could hang with that era of violence.

Somewhere they stopped showing the splatter of blood & the dismemberments… blood used to stain when you were down & splatter all over the screen.

Blood spray was a factor in gnasher battles too.

I remember having blood splatter & I would literally blind fire in gnasher fights trying to predict movement.

Now it just cleans right off in less than maybe a second.

But in terms of gore it used to have that level of pride to be up there

I’d say we need that department of violence & creativity, desperately.

Very true. Juvie movements are difficult to predict, compared to wretches. Sometimes Juvies swipe at you and then back off too by doing a reverse cartwheel.

Agree with everything you said here. This is what used to make Gears ’ Gears’. Why would they remove all this in Gears 5 is beyond me. Perhaps TC wants to cater to a younger audience? Not sure…

Crowbcat’s video on youtube outlines the change perfectly, It shows how there is a stark difference between Gears 5 and Gears of War.

5 maybe, 7 is nearly Judgement.

Weird how the robots didn’t get a major overhall in the couple months between Gears 4 and Hivebusters.

I mean… Raam’s Shadow never really added anything new. We got to play as Raam but it was really slow and stagnate. All it added brand new was some weapons but nothing too extreme or wild.

(However I would rather see the Elite Sawed-Off come back instead of the normal Sawed-Off)

Elite Maulers*

Onyx is reserved for COG troops.

The wretch & juvie might be slightly altered in movement , but back then the control schemes were a lot slower.

Today’s controller set ups are super fast so it’s similar to deal with a juvie is all I meant.

But I’m honestly bored of the juvie… maybe they can evolve them somehow?

Seeing how a juvie was once a human they could do a lot with that, in my opinion.

Not everyone looks the same

I was shocked that they didn’t have a Swarm Flamer included in this DLC, the timing seemed too perfect.

There should/could be “adolescent” Juvies that show some indication of their future role in the Swarm.
Maybe it would be better executed with Imagoes since they’re further developed - a blank slate of a drone if you will.
Regardless, I’ll stick with the Juvie idea for now…

A Juvie that will eventually develop into a grenadier could be a bit stockier and deal heavier damage (ideally make it what Juvies deal now and lower the default Juvie damage). Maybe they gear it up with some light armor so it can function like a mini-grenadier that charges in with little concern for its life (so basically what they do now).
Alternatively, they could have crystal Wolverine-esque claws or somesuch.

Maybe new life can be breathed into the Wretch by having better-developed Screamers that rush in to stun you and/or call more Juvies to their location.

A Sniper/Hunter Juvie could hang back and pelt you with rocks or something, perhaps they can handle sidearms at this point and have mini-Torque Bows or Snubs. This could be a good opportunity to bring back the Gorgon.

Have tactical Poppers that use Flashbangs or Smokes to disorient players. Utilizing the new generation of the Swarm as suicide bombers doesn’t sit right with me (I suppose they mature fast enough that it isn’t much of a concern, but the idea should be fazed out now that they have a queen calling the shots).

I have never heard either Maulers or Therons referred to as Onyx.

There were Therons, Theron Sentinels, Elite Theron, Savage Theron and Palace Guards.

Which game? Gears 3 I presume?

I couldnt find anything on the Gears pedia that confirms this, the only reference I can find to an Onyx Theron online is from a Neca toy (which does support your claim that it was at some point called that)

Edit: A different page on the wiki did have a reference to Onyx Theron, I learned something new, thanks for that

In return, in case you didnt know Gridlock was originally called Traffic.

Lee Perry programed an easter egg into Gears 1 where a player could shoot the snub pistol repeayedly into a plank of wood in a background building near Chaps gas station and the gas station name would chang eto Gab, after his wife.

You can block the first wretch you see in Gears 1 from coming out of a hole and after a short period it will die and the cutscene will focus on nothing and you still hear a scream (and have 1 less enemy to fight)

Whenever Gears 6 comes out and if its the last one in the main storyline, I want them to add every past enemy and weapon to horde. And if people want, make an option to filter in/out enemy types i.e. Locust, Lambent, Swarm, Deebee.

P.S. its an arcade mode, Lore doesn’t matter.

Go a step further and put UIR enemies in there too?
Maybe Stranded/Outsiders too? I’d say COG too since they’d have the most to work with (Gears, DBs, Vehicles, etc.) but maybe there should be a line? I could compromise with just UIR (put those Pariah Tanks to use) and Stranded/Outsiders. They could have enemy AI infighting too but I don’t see it as necessary since waves are typically themed.

People defend the “human vs monsters” angle religiously but they’re just scared of being disappointed and by extension change of any kind.

Maybe they can up it a bit further and make a Beast Mode 2.0 with all the “COG/UIR” to fight,

As long as it is way better than the OG Beast mode, I could never get into it. As soon as I started to get invested in a game it’d be over. The currency system back then felt weird (wrong?) but now that we have power, fabricators, skill cards and ultimate abilities I think a new Beast/Overrun/Survival mode could be really fun.

Yeah but whatever be the case you gotta admit that Juvie’s AI is far superior to Wretches.

A Juvie’s evolution is the Imago.

Yeah, maybe it gets erratic flashbacks during combat of it being a human and sometimes hesitates to attack humans.

Or you damage them a bit and they shriek in pain.
Kinda like the zombies in Dying Light.

And in terms of enemy variety… yes we do need some more diverse enemies.
In case TC is too busy to do that, they could just change the initial loadout weapons for the drones and grenadiers.
