Swarm evolution in Gears 6 (Thoughts/Opinon)

So when Gears 5 came out, I had hoped the Swarm (much like the Locust in Gears 2) would undergo a huge change in their diversity. While TC did bring in some new faces, they still felt somewhat underdeveloped.

I was doing some reading today about some of the lore that came out of Gears 5, especially how the whole resurrected Reyna thing worked. After reading, I found it interesting how the Swarm evolved rapidly after they acquired a Queen. It’s stated that the Swarm started to develop their own weaponry within only weeks, acted with self-preservation in mind, as well as exhibiting newer, more aggressive tactics.

With all of this occurring within weeks of obtaining a Queen, what will the Swarm look like months from now, or possibly a year or two? I really want TC to develop the Swarm as a legitimate army, rather than overgrown bug things. I think that’s what made the Locust so fearsome. They weren’t just mindless drones, they were organized and had their own armor, weapons, and creatures they rode on.

What I think would be pretty cool would be seeing the Swarm taking up residence in the flooded out Nexus. To me, it is completely plausible that by this time the water has subsided, allowing for the Swarm to create a centralized base. I would also like to see more troop diversity. More specifically, more elite troops. Something like Queen’s Guards, Generals, Swarmified Therons, etc. While this would be a lot to pack into one game, this “should” be the last game in the franchise. Why not go out with a bang!

It makes me sad that I hope this is true, but at this point… I hope this is true

Yeah, I really don’t think they need to keep going * cough* Star Wars cough. If they did a spinoff title here or there, I wouldn’t mind (Pendulum Wars, early Locust Wars, etc.).

Well said. Made sense that the swarm in Gears 4 wouldn’t be as advanced as the locust were in Gears 1, considering the locust had already existed in the world for awhile at that point. And I like the ragtag, scrap/salvaged look the swarm have in 5, but now that they have some leadership and direction I hope TC are hard at work thinking up how the swarm can evolve and really advance them to the point where they have their own unique, well-made armor and weapons, and their own architecture that could rival the locust in terms of scale and quality. Even if Gears 6 needs to take place a few years after 5 for that to happen, I hope they go through with that. I don’t wanna see anymore flesh hives.

I’m also hoping there’s a time skip too. Something kind of like from 2 to 3. The COG have rebuilt and moved their base to another city, and they’re in the middle of a war with the Swarm, who have become much more advanced and organized. I’d like to see something on par with (or slightly below) what we saw with the Locust in Gears 2. A new thriving civilization, with their own culture and class system. I know there’s some artists in the forums who’ve made amazing concept art for more “elite” type drones, and it’ll be really interesting to see what TC comes up with!
