Alright, good to know. But if that was an issue with the Tri-Shot Stump in Horde and Escape, have there been any considerations to add the Salvo Stumps or was it not an enemy due to their ability to cause quick wipes with never-ending Salvo fire?

Ok, got it, but elites melee has too much range imo.

Do you plan any contest for map creators for best map of the operation? Like the best versus map made in operation could be in next operations playable in rankings? It would be awesome and would encourage people to try their skills in map design.

Anyway, thank You for your time spent here, You are the first person from the developer team that personally goes to people to ask them about their thougths and feelings on game, I did not encounter such behavior earlier.

Ps. Dud anyone noticed that the horde wave objectives are missing? 10 headshots, no deaths? Will it be added?

Hi Ryan I have a different question for you. In previous games gnasher had a smoke effect when you reload it and since gears 4 has gone + when we was shooting on the ground dust used to pop up, why this effects are not on the game nomore? All these futures are small details that make the game to feel alive.

Is there any chance that Gears 5 could get a test server? Somewhere to test out changes to the game before they go live? This would be nice because the community could test out changes to the game and give you feedback on what should be tweaked/changed before releasing the update, thus (mostly) avoiding any backlash that may occur as a result of a poor balancing/matchmaking choice.

Games like R6: Siege do this and are pretty successful with it. They don’t hit the mark 100% of the time, but it has done a great deal to keep the matchmaking and multiplayer experience consistent and fun. I believe Gears 5 would benefit heavily having a server where the community can test out proposed changes before going live to everyone.

So a delay is being added to make it so you can’t instantaneously melee after shooting at some stage?

No I watched it curve down. It was a solid couple of inches on my screen. Its only happened once. Everything else is ping related. This wrap around is corner slap shotting…

Then I dont have a solution outside of making pings even

That’s a start to make me happy at least. If you also unrestricted weapons from specific characters in horde. That would be great.
I also wanted to inform you a bug in Horde. Some games I join I’ll head over to the fabricator. I can see all 18 weapons on screen, but I cant click anything and if I did on say a Lancer GL for JD, it’ll give me a grenade instead.

I really like how you handle things. You show that you really want gears to improve. Hope you like your crazy involved community aswell. Its kind of funny how a game can create such passion in people. Anyways.

I just want to share an game mode idea for your mind.
Its based upon king of the hill. But with the kill confirmed in it. since you guys have energy dropped in horde mode this could be used as confirmation on kills.

Also have the same rules for getting downed as you had in Pumpkin ball. That was executions rules with dbno 3 sec or less.

So with this rule set. The team has to capture the rings and gather energy from kills. The players has to hold the rings to be able to deposit energy.

What can be done with the energy.
It could be used as a win condition.
It could be used to spend for change weapon spawns
with different costs.
power weapon choice/random
support weapon choice/random
throwable weapon choice/random
Or just complete random weapon spawns.
It could be used to spend on faster respawns.
buy more smokes/flashes for your team. instead of 1 smoke they have 2.
Or at a certain energy number. The bottom player in the team recives shock/flame granades at spawn.

Hopefully you will get some insperation from this.
This idea probably needs some thinking on balancing for the winning/losing sides.

As for duplicates ? Yes, it’s really frustrating not being able to choose the characters we want, especially when achievements are tied to them. This is my biggest issue with horde.

They generally don’t, unless you are standing still and they are moving towards you. That’s the only scenario that we’ve found where they do. As soon as you move towards them, you have the advantage.

Moving backwards, away from an opponent may give your opponents the advantage as you appear closer to them than you actually are.

Which is exactly what I’m hoping for from all of this recent activity. It also ties in to my earlier question about TC potentially doing some different IP.

Gears of War 4 was solid but played things too safe for my liking and a “samey” experience wasn’t what I was looking for in a game - especially one that has barely changed in over a decade. And the fact they announced Gears 5 so soon afterwards was a bit of a disappointment because I believed we could expect much of the same, and why now I’m still skipping it. There would be no God of War like transformation for this series, not now anyways.

(That and too many IP go past their expatriation dates, but I digress).

Even so though, I think TC has some good story-telling potential that could be fully realized if given the chance to do something fresh. Honestly, I’d be more excited if they announced a new IP than I would for the next Gears of War. But yes, that last point about them (and 343 for that matter) all but resigning themselves to being stewards of an aging franchise is the biggest hurdle.

The melee through mestshield is a bug that I believe has been fixed in TU3,.

Jamie, the mp gameplay lead, and I are discussing what approach to take wrt the two piece at the moment. We have added the melee delay after shooting as a high priority feature.

  • More verticality is on our future tile plan.
  • Infected tiles will come, but it turns out that they cost more than we thought in both effort and frame rate. We will add more when we can be more efficient about the process, maybe doing a chunk of them in a batch.
  • we’d love that. We will add more features to give more user control over time.
  • we are also starting to think the horde approach is too punishing. We will look into it.
  • I will discuss it with the audio director.
  • it’s on our feature list backlog. We wanted it for launch but didn’t get there.

That’s a great question. We have a design for something with supply. When we finish the planning, we may open it up to community feedback. We don’t usually do that because these things can take a long time to make even after being designed. We may try it once or twice and see how it goes. If it backfires and people are impatient we may not do them. So we’ll try it and see how it goes.

Out of curiosity, what exactly do you mean by this? I haven’t played 5s Campaign enough to be able to remember all the level designs, at least on a basic level.

I don’t have the content roadmap in front of me and the reveal of it is a beat that can be fun. So I don’t want to talk to specifics ideally.
