Spending more time here

it has to do with the amount of interactions the weapons have with the world. There are a lot more actions in Gears 5 than in previous games. The animation system was completely new in Gears 4 so while we have access to the code, we have to rebuild the whole feature.

Heavy weapons are finicky. They have their own movement set, They require a lot of rigging and the mortar requires it’s own HUD and firing system.

It’s not that in and of itself it’s impossible, it’s just that if we do it, we may lose a creature or a few other weapons.

Our focus is on making Gears 5 the best it can be. We don’t really talk about future development and TBH, our real focus is making Gears 5 live up to and exceed players expectations in the future.

I would love more enemies. I agree, it would be sweet to have them all in.

We see ammo as almost health. You have to manage it to be successful. In horde, there are a lot of ways of getting ammo. Escape is all about being scrappy and scavenging what you need.

We wanted to give players tools to get more ammo. I can’t wait to get Keegan in horde and it may help with this as well.

Sorry to keep going on, your answer was more than acceptable.

The only thing I take issue with was the schorcer reasoning that it’s very visually expensive.

I don’t doubt that, but if a measly Xbox 360 could handle it back in the day, surely it can be handled on a much more powerful Xbox one. I’m sure you guys have the skill to implement it in a performant manner.

Your work on game optimisation (bar the terrible pc crashing issues) is second to none really.

PS: sorry if I have seemed to have a tone in my questions tonight. It’s been a rough, frustrating week of gears for me.

I’ve had a lot of friends give up on the game, and the melee stuff, sponging, no damage shots and so on have me on the brink of giving up too.

This is coming from someone who has hit masters tdm on two accounts and completed the tour of duty.

I’m just hoping you really knock it out of the park next week with the ranking fixes and the melee nerf in particular.

My patience is wearing very thin. That saddens me to say, as a lifelong gears fanatic.

Blood Drain - It’s intended to combo with other people’s attacks that bleed.

We have been looking for a way of bringing a richer melee experience that can provide more combo opportunities and more flexibility. It was originally developed for the mace. We also wanted a standardized melee no matter what weapon you are holding. ‘b’ means melee now, not a random thing.

We knew it was a risk in PvP but we wanted to keep it kind of consistent with PvE for launch. It still wasn’t identical. Now that we have the player feedback, we are working on a tuning set to make it more PvP tuned in PvP modes.

The most expensive part of the scorcher is the fill rate. Due to the increase in resolution at the same time as the GPU hardware has put a burden on the fill-rate. If we could run at 720p like the 360 we’d have fill rate to spare, but we can’t. The amount of overdraw on flame effects is substantial. Put four of them in a scene and it’s taxing.

That being said, with enough work it can be done. It just means less other weapons. And who knows, we may see the scorcher some day.

Would you guys consider a classic mode?

@N0DEZER0 one of the things I know people have talked about is the fact that people can kill you with wraparound shots, without exposing their body when you’re behind cover. Basically any death when you’re not able to see the opponent’s body is kind of questionable. Has there been any talk on that?

If the ink disappeared after the end of GoW 3, I think digger met the same ending, as the creature that was fired from it could die too. And dropshot took it’s role perfectly.

As for mauler, I would love to see it back, but boomshield could have been spiked with crystals, and flail would be awesome with crystals too.

Do you thought about similar creatures to bloodmounts? Or reavers?

Do you plan to add some more bosses to escape? For now it’s slowly geting boring when it comes to enemies and bosses.

Here’s something I’ve had the idea of suggesting for some time… a lobby preview for custom Horde and Escape lobbies. Why would you need this, you ask? Well, to preview which characters are already in a lobby so you don’t end up joining one with the character you want to play or the characters you may be playing already taken. Saves some time, if this is worth implementing. Not every host puts it into the lobby description what they want to be doing.

On another note… it’d be great to have the game put us back into the lobby browser menu if you quit a lobby(not match) instead of having to go to Horde and then selecting to go to Custom again every time you try if a lobby doesn’t have the character you want to be playing. But if these things were considered I’d expect them to be low priority stuff until more important things are sorted. So consider this more of a… suggestion.
