It would have to be a Parent of the brothers right? Or just a random Cousin or something. Although there could be none because I’d imagine most here would make at least one Carmine to put in their squad lol
We already have Lizzie, and Clayton was in the campaign. So maybe the last brother #4?
That would mean canonically the 4th brother would have to survive this game as Ben confirmed in 2 that Anthony was the only dead brother. Personally I’d like to see father or Mother Carmine, they could give insight to the brothers (and give Anthony an actual character)
I think TC is never gonna make the fourth carmine a thing, it’s such a tease knowing Lizzie (might) is the 4th carmine’s daughter.
I mean it sucks, but it does make sense. As long as at least 1 Carmine is alive there can be endless. The 4th brother is pretty much the backup if TC decides they wanna off Clayton in 6
I’d like to see him and Clay have some beef with JD in the next game/comic personally. I’m surprised I heard nothing from Clay in Gears 5, just from Baird.
Blame the four month gap between Act 1 and 2 which left out important character development for JD(and most other characters). And telling us whether Lizzie actually got killed by JDs idiocy or not(I hold to the belief she should be alive because they could have used her as a pretty good supporting character, but no, just gotta kill that good character of “because Carmine”, which I find isn’t a valid reason to kill one off when they might prove to be a good character). We didn’t see JD and Clayton together until Act 4 in Gears 5, where there were slightly more important things to worry about than personal grudges.
The upcoming Bloodlines novel may give us more details… although it’s apparently focused on Kait again so JD might only have limited spotlight. Who knows. They really should cover the time gap between Act 1 and 2 however, from both perspectives and not just Kait’s.
Edit :
Oh, and as for the Carmine in Tactics… could it be the - mysterious, as far as I am aware - D. Carmine? Or it might just be a random one thrown in since Clayton is apparently Lizzie’s uncle, rather than grandfather. I recall seeing a mention of TC having plans for the various yet unused alphabet letters for the Carmines, though. So there’s probably at least going to be one.
I wished Act 3 was just JD and Fahz in-between Acts 1 and 2. the reestablishment of the Hammer of Dawn fits thematically with JD and it should have been his journey accepting responsibility for his mistakes and overcompensation that ended up costing his own people’s lives. Then slowly build the reunion throughout Act 4’s struggles.
I’d personally take having an additional Act between 1 and 2(so current Act 2 would be 3, current Act 3 would he 4 and so on) over just making all of Act 3 about only JD and Fahz. Unless this is what you’re saying all along.
Though the way they did the “reunion” could also have been handled better. At first everyone’s(by this I mean Kait and Del) mad and then JD just says a few words and suddenly the lasts four in-universe months are forgotten almost completely and everyone’s friends (again).
Basically yes, although preferably with just JD and Fahz in Vasgar. I still think it should have been JD focused through that part, with Fahz as kind of a foil.
The reunion just felt…rushed. And I wish Del was actually TORN since he’s supposed to be JD’s best friend. Maybe their drama would be better suited in a book or comic.
Well, there is still four months between Act 1 and 2. We don’t know much about how Del felt right after Settlement 2s fall/when JD came out of coma following his actions resulting in the death in the civilians and drivers of two trucks as well as potentially Lizzie, and changed the way he acted, while pushing away Kait and Del. But it seems he had some time to work over his feelings at least a little bit and instead just formed a closer bond with Kait.
But yes, it could be detailed better in a book or something else outside of the game(I have little hopes we will even get a DLC for 5s Campaign). So here’s to hoping they will in Bloodlines to some degree. Ascendance managed to squeeze some JD&Del bits into it, so I don’t see why this new one wouldn’t be able to.
I think Bloodlines could fit some JD stuff in, but I’d imagine he’d still be in a coma. Also if he is in the book apparently hes just gonna be an ■■■■■■■ or just will avoid Kait and Del. Basically I’m doubtful that arc will get continued in the book
I got a feeling he’ll be hostile to Fahz for a while too. Since it’s titled “Bloodlines” I’d imagine Fahz’s Vasgarian roots could be dabbled into as well.
It is mentioned in Act 2 near the beginning of Chapter 2 that Jinn’s had Fahz and JD running missions together for months. It’s unlikely he was in coma for very long if that was the case.
And the JD segments would go some way towards explaining why he became the way he was shown to be in the Riftworm village. Rather than just portraying him in a bad way like he mostly is before Act 3. He doesn’t have to be around Kait or Del for this to be detailed. Jinn also apparently made him a Captain and made it look like they(not specified who but likely Kait and Del in particular, or at least anyone but JD) were at fault for the Hammer strike going wrong, which is partly responsible for his pro-COG change from what I can tell. But again, we lack details.
I really hope they know better than to kill off Lizzie for good… but I have my doubts, knowing some of the odd decisions taken by TC in the past.
Most of the novel will likely be about Kait’s search for… well, whatever she’s searching on her father for. Who Tactics could also provide some good details for. And which is what this topic is technically about.
I’m looking forward to trying out Tactics, it’d be a nice change of pace while still enjoying the Gears aesthetic.
What do you mean?
And I hope she’s at least referenced some, she became an instant favorite for me.
Well, for one, Lizzie is one of my favorites right now.
And I don’t expect TC to realize that they could do more with Lizzie if they kept her alive, unless they throw us a bone. It was already disappointing enough everyone just kinda seemed to forget about her besides one single side mention by Kait when she talked to Baird about knowing if he could be relied upon if the Hammer was to be reactivated, just offing her for no good reason would just be so stupid. At least they had enough sense to not turn Kait to the Swarm.
The Tree could expand for sure.
More Brothers, Sisters and Cousins.
Even Parents.
Sera definitely has more Carmines.
I dunno how they’d be able to miraculously spare her after a Hammer blast. For the sake of respecting everyone’s intelligence I’d rather they keep her dead after that.
Gary didn’t even have a death scene really, yet he was confirmed dead because Carmine (unless the Zombie skin isn’t a confirmation). I can’t imagine the kind of azzpull it would take to get Lizzie back.
I’d love an Ashen Lizzie skin though.
Not after making her murder the last parental figure in her life. I’m glad they kept it simple since it wasn’t really a temptation to join the Swarm, but rather intimidation.
Yeah… but JD also survived standing right next to said Hammer blast not even a head’s length away from Lizzie’s face at that point. So where do you draw the line there? If the explosion sent him flying through the air like a toy, I doubt even a jammed steel door(or whatever material the COG uses for construction - don’t even know if they still use Osmium for their armors) would hold there. Which was the only thing that would have prevented Lizzie from also being flung around there. Not to mention JD might have had some exposure to the beam as well, besides being in the middle of the blast too.
And how is it insulting to everyone’s intelligence if she wasn’t dead?
She was in the Minotaur as it got blasted by the Hammer. JD was pretty lucky honestly.
Since it showed that she got blasted while inside the Minotaur and no callbacks to her at all besides from Kait, I think it’s safe to say that she’s dead.
They really hammered that point home.
A retcon would be pretty asinine after all the effort into showcasing her in a doomed state.
