Should Lizzie Carmine's death be retconned?

They have chimp strength duh.

I’m not familiar with what that means so if that’s supposed to be a joke it’s kinda going over my head.

Chimps are strong despite being small due to some way their muscles work.

The women in the Gears series preform the same as men despite being shorter, and less beefy looking.

You’d expect playing as Kait in the campaign you’d be like Sheva in Resident evil 5 but nah, Kait can hang with Del and JD feat wise. Thus, I conclude that it’s something to do with chimp strength with how seran women evolved.

Well, to be fair, Gears has never really done that kind of separation between the male and female characters(though I have found it odd that they were on the same levels as super beefed up Marcus or Cole) since they became playable in Gears 3, so I don’t think it’s something to look into too much. Even if it seems odd from a realistic standpoint.

In that same train of thought, I don’t think too much thought has been put into the evolution of Seran women and they’re just kept equal in strength to the male characters for gameplay purposes in all modes.

It do is funny when TC works that into a character’s dialogue. I had a line from Mac once after a melee or Breaker Mace kill where he went “Don’t let my little noodle arms fool ya!”. Thought that was kinda funny.

Whats always confused me in Gears when it comes to strength, is why, regardless of how strong a character looks, any average door is super hard to open and takes 2 people

But then you can kick open metal gates and super massive doors are kicked open by a single person in cutscenes like it’s nothing.

Ikr? Like it’s really confusing and generally inconsistent

I only get it for those doors that seem to close on their own again after opening them like the entrances to comm towers or their substations, or the various facility entrances in Vasgar, to hold them open until everyone is through. Or the giant catacomb doors in, well, the catacombs in Gears 4. Or if the characters pose up to a door and go through it expecting something to be on the other side.

Yeah, those one’s make sense, but like, I think in the beginning of gears 4, when you’re going the the city being built you have to do the 2 man door at one point, but its like: who is that door for!? If its part of a city, what normal door takes 2 beefy dudes to open?

Or how odd that they managed to stayed beefed up in Gears 3 when they were supposed to be starving lol

and the arteries.

Naw bruh. She dead. Her death contributed to a major plot point wit JD. I dont even get why wouldnt anyone even consider this. The carmines nearly all die. They get mad love. Her death wont diminish the character any. Shes pretty dope but died cuz JD. She let her be dead as intended.

I don’t really think she should be retconned or anything as the story is already made, wouldn’t make much sense. There is a discussion to be had about the carmines taking a major backseat lately. I get that they are mainly side characters but damn.

Gary had such an interesting personality and the first to have a different voice yet he didn’t say a word and was there for like 5 seconds just to be cannon fodder. Clay is a complete ghost yet they deliberately give Gary a tattoo of his helmet and the grub killer moniker right on his back and never explain this in the slightest. Even had people thinking Clay was dead. Still I feel like if he idolized Clay that much there should have at least been some offhand mention in Gears 5.

Speaking of which let’s talk about Clay’s ghosting problem in Gears 5. How much better would that scene have been if Clay was actually there and ripped JD a new one? Honestly it would have even served to improve JD’s character arc. Yet he’s nowhere to be found. Doesn’t even mention it once either. The Grub Killer, who’s character arc pretty much revolves around how pissed off he gets about his dead family members, never says a single word about the latest person he has to avenge.

Biggest slap in the face is the ending cutscene where they go out of their way to show you everyone is alright and I guess they just completely forgot Carmine because he’s back to his old tricks again. They might as well swap his ultimate with Kait. I guess everyone has to take a back seat so they can focus more on the least interesting characters of the series.

Objectively most of the writing is just awful, which is a shame because a lot of the stuff in act 5 was pretty good, it shows the potential that this game could have had. Instead it focused on poorly fleshing out uninteresting characters and a watered down version of Mass Effect’s exploration. Hell even the character banter makes me think I’m back in the friggin mako all over again.

Trailing off a bit here but the point is that while Lizzie’s death was tragic, they didn’t even bother to reference it again in the same game so it’s all said and done. We’ve just gotta grieve and take our sweet time with the executions in her memory.

They definitely didn’t use Clay effectively, nor JD when it came time to grab the beacon at the start of Act 4. Could’ve had a timid look on him as his squad was approaching Clay. Kait does briefly mention her afterwards though, I believe in Act 3.
However I wouldn’t put much stock in Clay because I don’t see how much he can contribute to the story any more than being JD’s personified survivor’s guilt. The revelation of Settlement 2 already forces that.

There wasn’t much in Act 4 writing-wise beyond lots of shooting and the standard military mission dialogue and lingo.

I agree and I feel the same.

How are we supposed to do that when it wasn’t the Swarm who killed her but JDs idiocy and TCs writing taking a dump in that scene with Lizzie not even trying to make a run for it instead of waiting for certain death?

yes, it sucks that she died :frowning:

I think it should stay canon, mainly because I’m hoping that this finally gives TC a chance to bring the elusive fourth brother, D. Carmine out into the playing field, seeing as how Lizzie was his daughter, maybe we’ll finally get to see the second oldest Carmine brother in action

So you want D.Carmine to die, too!? :disappointed:

Could do what Disney did with Star Wars, scrapped all old books n comics and made new ones. Saying the new ones are cannon.
BUT, if the new stuff contradicts the movies, then it’s the movies you should take as cannon.
Seems it’s too hard for their writers of the books n comics to actually take the time to watch the movies before writing new stuff…

So, this is a game story first hand, books n comics second. And we don’t actually see her die, so yeah, could very much be alive. No matter what some after thought book says.

Would be a nice scene, having JD been throw of the side of a building or something, barely holding on with his damaged arm. And then a prosthetic arm reaching down to lift him and it’s Lizzie, having one side of her body damaged from the escape from the truck.

He shares the same VA with the Aspho Gear you use in the Prologue.
