Seeing everyone leave kinda makes me feel bad for the criticism Gears 5 got. Maybe us so called Gears fans will end the franchise due to our complaints…we’ll be real sorry then. Let’s just appreciate the franchise is still alive I guess…although many of us had legit complaints.
I don’t think we need new modes at all, returning ones absolutely. Likeise weapons.
We have such a rich lore, just look to that.
I would go so far as to scrap the operations having to include a new mode. Scrap the Hero system, trying to shoehorn stupid abilities onto characters is causing delays in all departments it would seem.
If op 4 released with a new ToD and let’s say 6-8 maps, 4 new, 4 legacy…but ones we have only had ONCE! I think a lot of us would be happy ?
We don’t know if it’s the community that caused him to leave, It very well could be distance from family, health problems any number of reasons, but if it was the pressure of the community you gotta have tough skin in the entertainment industry. Gears isn’t the only franchise that gets sh*t on. I’m usually the first one to defend devs and I believe when they make a decision, going back on it to try and please fans is just BS,
you can’t please everyone, and nor should you try. You did the work and did the countless hours in the studio to make the product, you don’t need to cater to a bunch of people who won’t be happy regardless of how you tune the game or what content you put out. You gotta stick with your choices and if it really didn’t work out as planned, tackle it again in the next installment. But if a bunch of angry nerds are keeping you from being proud of your work then the entertainment business isn’t for you.
Bad news seeing one of the main players jumping ship.
Can only imagine what it’s like to have years of work lambasted due to decisions made by those higher in the chain of command.
Regardless, Gears 5 MP failed to attract new players and utterly failed to appease core fans. Might help having another person at the helm of the franchise
I don’t think the situation is as dire as I doubt Rod really had much involvement from a development standpoint, but yes Ryan leaving is eye opening. I’m sure they will refill his role and they have enough data and information for what they need to keep things moving.
Still as you said you cannot deny the signs. I love Gears so I’m hoping for the best.
Wasn’t Rod the Creative Director on the game like for Campaign and story and probably would’ve led into Gears Tactics and 6?
Maybe so, sorry I was speaking more from an MP perspective.
Overall tho I don’t think Rod’s departure was a major impact on development, whereas Ryan leaving is a pretty big deal.
TC OCTUS AND DANA for next 30 days
Sorry tired
Halo and CoD are household names and even in decline, will retain large followings.
Gears used to be big but this gen and new trilogy has been received worse. The series just doesn’t resonate with people as much and franchise fatigue is worse for GoW than it is for Halo or CoD.
I mean Halo 4 was ok, Halo 5 was complete trash. CoD has been up and down since MW3… yet both will retain large followers off name alone
Probably just a lame April Fools prank that dropped a few hours early…
Thanks Ryan for reaching out to the community and answering our questions.
I as well as others wish you all the best for the future and hope everything works out for you.

I would say he’s being sincere. I’ve stated many times that the launch of this game is the reason it’s struggling for want of a better word. There’s definitely a disconnect between the devs, decision makers and dare I say the players. That’s my opinion.
I think theres always a need for new weapons. New ways to kill and play the game. However the hero system is a bad one and i think it should been a Weapon based system instead. Where players get better at handling weapons (not PVP). And instead of heros and abilitys there couldve been new weapons arriving to the game.
Not sure what to think here.
With all the bugs at launch, a ranked system that still isn’t really user friendly, and other issues going on in multiplayer, its an interesting time to just leave for personal issues.
Watching and listening to him on his podcasts, it seemed like at least to me that many of the decisions made were his. This makes sense because he is the head. He was almost a bully sometimes in responses to Dana and others in regards to other “more fun” options. Again this is from what I saw and only my opinion.
I guess I am trying to say, it seems like some changes are happening now for a reason. He was likely let go, but that’s speculation. Hopefully this means we can start seeing some quality of life improvements that players have wanted and because of his decisions may have been denied.
That being said, this community is toxic. Changes in games have to happen. Risk taking is necessary. If gears 5 played like gears 1 I wouldn’t be playing.
The game is not trash. It’s actually a lot of fun and I truly think its has a lot of potential. Hopefully these changes at TC can get the game there. Fingers have been crossed that a year out, the game plays and feels like the best gears game yet.
What fantastic news to wake up to! It’s great day.
Yes! Good luck, Cleven! Good luck on your journey far. far the damn hell away from Gears!
Maybe things will take a turn to what the fans actually want, now that some terrible influences have left.
It was only a matter of time. Hey, even tough guys crack under pressure.
The hell did I just look at!?
You made all of those? ;p
But on topic: “I wish Ryan the best!”
These are just so bad but I can’t stop laughing at them.
Everyone needs to go, I’m sick of these BS anti-gamer achievements. I’m sick of all the nerfs in this game. Gaming is supposed to be fun not a chore. Re-up 30 achievement?
End this franchise. End it NOW.
