TC’s PR department leaves a lot to be desired
Just imagine spending 3 years creating a game and being made to implement a shody cosmetic system that you know is wrong but have to do because you have responsibilities/commitments and you want to be able to stay in an industry that allows you to pursue a personal interest.
Those 3 years of hard work being overshadowed by some ■■■■■ in a suit who makes these terrible design decisions.
The only hope left is that the fans outcry of complaints change the course of the design process and allow your creation to be praised for its story, graphics, online etc and you are baffled to find some fans so caught up in being a fan that they lose any sense of reason and find a way to justify bad decisions any which way they can.
And while Gears 5 has its issues, I honestly don’t blame him. The Gears community is freekin awful at times.
That being said there are plenty of awesome people too, but overall, the stuff I’ve seen over the years especially with Gears 4 and 5, has been ridiculous.
Is he wrong? I’ve heard the same damn thing for almost 10 years since gears 2
“Gears 1 is the only real gears game”
“Omg they nerfed the gnasher, bad game is bad”
“Wow, stop being a lancer noob”
Maybe it’s time to really reflect. Are you being a toxic whiner?
Exactly. I think the community needs to take a hard look at itself. Nothing can stay the same forever. Games need to change and evolve.
Someone’s been reading the apex playbook.
You really want to hurt them!? Stop playing Gears 5.
It will hurt them more then you think.
This is not evolution. This is selling you an incomplete game then selling you its completion after you buy the game. Does anybody remember when DLC used to actually be DLC and not just locked content. Where add-ons and DLC was maps new characters skins from an expanded campaign, I dont mind launch gliches. I use to not buy games that where brand new anyway. But this whole piece mealing you a whole game has got to stop. Its going destroy the industry. Well all the triple A industry.
People talking about weapon balance because the gnasher is not reigning supreme in a cover base game is toxic. People complaining about the cost of an actual game is therapeutic.
Every Gears he worked on was perfect. As soon as he left this franchise, it immediately turned to ■■■■ starting with Judgement all the way to G5 under Rod. The new Gears might not be a terrible game, but in comparison to the originals they’re god awful. Just look at all the people asking for remasters and the complaints about how the game has turned to garbage as an example
What bad decisions are you referencing? Are we STILL hung up on the price of the store items? Because if that’s going to be the breaking point for the lot of you, I have some bad news… have fun never playing a video game again 5 years from now. The price of making and marketing games at the scale of Gears 5, is so astronomical that the only profit these publishers often see are from the sales of additional content. Why do you think DLC map packs were such a huge thing last gen, and then season passes and weapon skins, it’s evolution, and getting made at ONE man because of it, resolves nothing. You can all complain until you’re in your graves and it still won’t change a thing. You can waste all your energy fighting the inevitable, or you can start critiquing the things that are actually wrong and broken with this game.
Everyone is so damn hung up on these store items, honestly, find a different hill to die on. I don’t care what a weapon skin cost 5 years ago, I don’t care what DLC was available in Halo 5, I don’t care how many characters shipped with a game that’s nearly 14 years old… I don’t care, we are living right now, in this global economy, with these current market trends, deal with it.
If this community is so distraught over these prices, then speak with your wallets… either don’t buy any of the in game content, not just for Gears but for ALL games, or stop playing gears all together… that is the only way to force a shift in the industry, Everyone wants to complain about how awful the game is, while rocking Aape skins and logging 40 hours a week. You can complain or do something, but people in general are so lazy these days that they never put their money where their mouths are. It’s easier to complain on a forum than actually do something. If you live in the US, write your local Congress person about predatory store items and fiscally ridiculous prices.
God damn, I’m just so sick of all the complaining.

This is freekin hilarious and so damn true. Nailed it.
A fair point, Cliff is a visionary , however I don’t see how that pertains to this particular conversation. Rod’s reaction to all of this drama is a lot more civil than anything that would have come from Cliff, this, in a nutshell is part of the reason he left the industry.
Can I have some of whatever your smoking???
EVERY Gears he worked on was perfect??? Your out of your mind
Not just Rod, but TC as a whole as well. Their professionalism throughout the Gears 4 and 5 drama has been incredible IMO.
Can’t blame Cliffy B for leaving.
I don’t know much about Rod Fergusson as a person, or even as a manager, but I have had serious misgivings about his stance on game design since the Gears 3 days. I remember an old post from him describing how he approaches balance in player versus player game modes. He used an old hockey arcade game as an example of inconsistency and randomness being a good balancing feature, and it was the dumbest thing I have ever read from a professional in game design.
I think Gears 6 should have a different lead director.
We’re talking about cliffy B? OMEGALUL
Do all the gnasher purists recall how weapons at launch of GOW 2 were literally incapable of blindfire? Like you’d pull the trigger and the shots would fire directly toward the ground in front of you.
How about the Retro and Sawed Off in GOW 3? These are both 100 times more “noob friendly” than anything TC has ever attempted.
How can TC ever be expected to take fan input seriously when so much of the fanbase is literally delusional?
A huge portion of the vocal part of the community, ARE toxic, abusive crybabies. I’m not exactly shocked that one of the primary targets of weeks of vitriol, is tired of it. Have any of you actually scanned this forum before - even just the TITLES of threads?
If you’re one of the people providing good, constructive feedback, then obviously this doesn’t apply to you.
Tell that to Activision’s Infinity Ward/Treyarch/Sledghammer/Raven/etc. They’ve literally been making the exact same game every year like clockwork. So much so that they started the COD remake loop.
Not true. Their last game had a battle royale mode, they’ve experimented with different mechanics in games like Advanced and Infinite Warfare, and they’ve even experimented with getting rid of the campaign completely.
And we can’t forget the various ways Call of Duty has been a real pioneer in coming up with various ways to extract more money from their players - including lootbox mechanics that unabashedly have had a direct impact on gameplay.
Trying new things is the only way to avoid franchise fatigue
He clearly wasn’t around for Gears 2 launch lol
