Well, two things…

  1. When someone joins a lobby it defaults them to whatever character they were last time, so might join as JD even when they fully intend to play as something else: we always give them a chance to switch, we explain what we are doing, who we need , etc. If they dont respond/change/etc, we kick them, and

2, with the types of runs we do, JD doesnt really offer that much… I mean, he’s not useless, but there is no advantage to having a jd added to marcus/fahz, whereas there is an advantage to having a clayton added… Too many JD players join a lobby with the “the superstar has arrived, NOW you can start” attitude :grin:

Jack, Marcus, Clayton make the core of a successful run. Then an engineer, for lockers and some shock sentries, and a 5th to help with damage. Fahz is deadly. Kait is OK… I think Keegan might be ok. I want to try Mac… CAN JD be the 5th? Of course… We just prefer giving other characters a chance to have fun…

I was referring to in-game, when the match has already started. In the lobby, I always leave people time to change their character. Not like some kickers that throw you out even as you are changing character(even if they did not specify which one they wanted).

And I would play Marcus if I didn’t think auto aim headshots wouldn’t be interesting long term, if I didn’t care about which character I played, and if I had the character leveled properly.

Marcus + JD is actually pretty good. Sometimes, you just have to work with what you’ve got. Even Marcus still struggles against some Bosses that JD can deal with easily. And we get to try very risky frontline positions with this combo. JD does have the advantage of one-shotting and clearing DBNO enemies which Marcus doesn’t do often on HB and Claw Drones. They mostly get downed, occasionally headshot death for strange reason. Kait is pretty much no good with Marcus, lacking the range, I haven’t gotten around to having Fahz team mate taking advantage of Living Legend yet. I’m not really anti-JD but I do like how the combo is strong.

Ohh, totally, JD is not useless, at all, just overkill for what we do.

Re cleanup on downed enemies, we use clayton for that, we aim for 8 salvos in 2 lockers, and he is just doing headshots with those salvo rockets, tends to work well…

Yes, Fahz with living legend works well too… I am a CRAP sniper, i wouldnt even tey that, even with headshots, haha…

Re guarantees headshots not being interesting, @AmicableWall421, it’s not trivial… The guaranteed headshots with the claw simply bring the fight to a somewhat level playing field, for Marcus, the enemy weapons are still very OP, they still have a ton of health, and bosses are still a fun challenge, and shielded enemies still require coordination and effort…
There is still strategy involved, you switch weapons depending on what enemy you shoot at, etc, etc (retro for those who go dbno, claw for others)… Yes, mowing downs 2-3 waves of imagos and juvies with the claw gets boring, but then you get other enemies, and it isnt so boring anymore.

But yeah, everyone likes different things, all good…

Re what @Ektope said about Kait: yeah, she is good as close up backup if something goes wrong and enemies make it into the base, but if the game is running smoothly there wouldnt be much for her to do,

Yeah, having a JD instead of Clayton would work just as well… There just seems to be a premium for finishing games without a JD, thats all (in attitude, not in any game currency, etc)

Thought this was the best thread to put this in.

I am proud to inform I’ve seen absolutely ■■■■■■■ nobody because I haven’t actually played this game since June 3rd-ish. My IRL mental state is totally ■■■■■■ and I’d rather play Titanfall thank you.
