Ranked Preseason Feedback

I’ve asked for entry fee to never exceed the maximum amount of points achievable without the winning bonus, we should be able to cover those costs with personal performance

as far as I can tell, and I’ve already stated it earlier, the scoring system was ok already before op4
what wasn’t working was the matchmaking and still isn’t

and assists having the same gp as kills is madness should be at least 2:1 or 3:1 ratio
just like in op3 you would get partial score for assists

Yeah it’s too high. Especially for a solo player. The entry fee should be halved or negated entirely when someone quits. Should cost more for brining in a friend too.

Not sure why TC didn’t just work the ranking points around the old points scoreboard. Old points scoreboard gave a much clearer indication as to who the skilled players are. This new system misses a lot of nuances like winning when a man down only gives you the same number of points as when it’s 5v5.

Also it’s taking too long to find matches when I search solo.

The new ranking system feels a lot better than the old one but still needs improvement.

  • Bronze tier should have a small amount of GP to play if not eventually every player will get out of bronze without playing good because they wont lose any points if their performance is bad.

  • Each game mode should have a different GB entry points, especially Gridiron Vs KOTH. In koth players have more time to perform more points and in Gridiron being a one life mode makes it harder to gain those points.

  • Players should be rewarded GP and if they dont lose any round they should also receive some GP

  • There should be different playlist for solos and teams, especially for 5 man stacks. I have played games agaisnt 5 man stack and my team are 5 randoms, it makes it way harder to win. Stacks should play agaisnt other stacks.

Don’t know where the rank pre season topic went but you really need to be able to earn the entry cost without winning, the rank is meant to be personal performance.

I do enjoy entering a game. Paying the fee, just to have the game crash and I lose a rank because of it.

Also some other comments. Stacks vs non stacks. It really doesnt matter. With the new system the idea is your randoms will be around the sske rank as you. Which levels the field quite a bit. It’s hard to play with quitters but I’ve won a few games and alot a few with randoms vs stacks. Stack team doesnt mean you will lose and being on a stackee team doesnt mean you will win.

Stacks. As you get further up you face the same amount of stacks. Some are good and some are bad but you will never get away from stacked teams.

I know they have relaxed searching for match ups but I shouldnt be seeing masters as diamond one if I understand the system.

At diamond 3 I should be seeing diamond 2, diamond 3 and masters. On the flip side I shouldnt be seeing bronze either. A stacked team might screw with the system a little but randoms shouldnt.

Earlier today was matched with silver 1 & silver 3 on my team & im an onyx2. Versed me against 2 gold 3 & onyx 1,2,3.

I was upset but whatever. Lost like 50 points.

A player quitting makes you more likely to lose the match and drop a rank.

I just played a match where we were winning until a person on the team quit, and now I am one rank lower…

What are you going to do about this???

To start off with the new ranking systems awards you for personal performance which is great, it’s a good start, the only problem is that ranking up relies too heavily on the win, winning should only really matter a lot in the onyx / diamond / masters ranks, even in gold you have to win to even go up. If you’re playing solo and are in gold and get rubbish teammates you’re screwed, think of it this way, you are gold rank, and you play the perfect game, get 100 gears points and lose, you go down regardless, I think that’s a bit harsh, instead they should double the amount of points you can earn during the match and get say only 50 points for a win for a little bonus That way if you play really well but lose you can still go up, And in the higher ranks they can make the win matter more by bring the points to earn in a game back down to 100 and the win is 150 that that way

It’s a lot better than old system only thing I’d say needs tweaking is caps and something like less entry cost if someone quits. If you’re in gold and perform well you should be able to make back the entry cost at least I feel.

Here is another amazing glitch. Pick up switches from x to a and then I cant pick up weapons. Not only that when i go to cover slide instead of wrapping around the cover i go to instead grab nobody on the other side of said cover.

This game is utterly amazing. Fix your game

Yeh i lose more games than I win but always usually performing at the top, so will never rank past gold haha

Final opinions of Op4 versus/ranked/movement/etc.
overall I’m satisfied with the movement. It’s a little chunky from the “wall-cancel” snap effect, otherwise I love it.

Matchmaking is still broken af but I’m going to go ahead and blame that on the small player base? This morning I solo queued a KOTH match and got 4 solo teammates and was matched against a 5 man squad. Doesn’t make sense but oh well.

I think you guys should force crossplay in ranked bc the playerbase is so small and there’s no reason for somebody to be able to turn off crossplay, other than they are sick of getting slapped by pc players. Guess what? That’s how ya get better. It’s basically a handicap to rank up by turning it off.

The only thing I gotta say I cannot stand is the Hard-aim Bullet magnetism. I understand the need for slight magnetism but holy **** TC if I Hard aim in any direction with my eyes closed I will Full Spread hit an enemy that isn’t even on my screen. I have multiple clips of people hard aiming at a wall waaaaay to either side of me and still blowing me away like they have an aim bot from hell. I get that that is the point of the hard aim but seriously guys it makes the game so easy when you don’t even have to attempt to aim at somebody…

Horde and Escape are tight, no complaints there.

Keep up the finally good work :joy: I was worried after Op3 that this game was going to spiral downward but you guys pulled it off. More or less

Hey bro that’s the “classic-alt” “tournament” glitch. Dunno why but it started happening in Op4. If you’re on classic-alt, every once in a while the game will automatically change your control scheme to “tournament”. Causing wack movement, and not allowing you to pick up weapons/teammates with X lol. It’s a quick fix by just changing your settings to tournament, and then back to classic alt, but still super damn annoying when you’re in a pinch in Versus…

King of The Hill game mode:
40 eliminations = 2 points each = 80 points max
10 captures = 1 point each = 10 points max
10 broken circles = 1 point each = 10 points max

The thing is, every single player manages 40 eliminations, doesn’t matter if you are good, since you’re counting assists as eliminations, everyone gets it. What I mean by it? That a bronze friend of mine is gold now, and he is not performing better than before, it’s just that anyone can achieve 40 eliminations and captures/broken circles rarely differ too much between players, which makes victory the only thing that differenciates players.

One more example: Before, atleast in TDM, you would get 150 points for a downed/killed player, if you downed someone he would get 150 points while his teammate who finished the downed guy would get 10 points.
That was fair, I didn’t care if the eliminations would be similar even though the gameplay said otherwise, but the score would show how different the performance is between this two players. Right now, grazing someone with a snub or solo killing someone means the same in the score. I can literally just keep shooting a lancer from distance and barely creating damage and still get 40+ eliminations,.

My suggestion: Change eliminations to kills, we already have that data in the game, who downed or straight killed an opponent gets rewarded points.

Now lets start of why Ranked is horrible now.
Gears 5 gameplay too

Point Number 1: Lancers
Playing Ranked on Gears 5 is not fun at all for anybody, its just Lancers and Lancers, the main Gears games where focused on the Gnasher which made the games likable and enjoyable. Gears 5 on the other hand not so much, they improved by giving the Gnasher 8 bullets again but that is not enough. The Lancer NEEDS to be fixed. All people do on Ranked is sit back and Lancer when they have the hill, which would be fine if the lancer was weaker than now. Now you wont be able to get out of your own spawn.

Point Number 2: Disconnects
A big issue in Ranked Gears 5 is also getting randomly disconnected. You wont get kicked of Xbox Live at all, all you do is getting kicked out of ths game. And then you dont even get the option to join back at all. You lose points, you get deranked and then you try getting back to that same rank for it to happen again.

Point Number 3: Gears points and the lack off that
Gears points is actually a very good addition to Ranked but it still needs fixing. You can do very well but not get many Gears points. People who have no clue how to play the game can catch up, which lowers the skill gap. People have to learn how to play the game and get rewarded for it. Not get rewarded for being bad at the game. Either players need to get unlimited Gears points in a match for example: Kills. You can clear out a whole team but if you reached 40 kills you wont get anything. Kills do really matter. Or lower the cost to enter a ranked game and make all the ranks the same cost. So atleast with the little amount of GP earned, you will be able to earn instead of constantly lose them.

Point Number 4: Unfair matchmaking
Matchmaking is really not fair, I can go in by myself and face a full team of Diamonds. That shouldnt be happening. And then on my team i get put with players who arent good at the game, but because Bad players are getting rewarded for being bad they will be put on my team. With the cost at a high rank being alot I will keep losing GP because matchmaking is unfair. And because you cant earn alot of GP you will lose your rank. This NEEDS to be fixed!

Point Number 5: Bad hit detection with the Gnasher
The Gnasher still needs alot of work, its a good step having 8 bullets now but the hit detection is really inconsistent. I would hit my shots at the enemy player but it wouldnt register, this happends ALOT, Shots also dont register when you are nearly downed and you shoot someone. You can see the shotgun shells hit the enemy player but it wouldnt do anything. That really needs to be fixed.

And those are the key points to fixing this game. I hope this really gets fixed and we can play the game how it is intented to be played.

The Lancer was already nerfed. In all the past Gears games if you had a squad using Lancers it’d be hard to deal with too. And now it’s just a bit more encouraged by Arcade. Stack up and pressure Grenade spawns.

This seems regional, I’ve never disconnected but I know others have been. it’s just an unfortunate error but if the game could detect a disconnect vs a quit and distribute points as needed when you log back in would be a good fix, if it’s at all possible.

It’s a good thing they’re testing it with a preseason then, huh?

Because victories are what will rank you up. Performing well but still losing will result in a neutralization of GP that you spent entering the match.

With the exclusion of the highest ranks, you will be losing 50 GP on a loss and gaining 200 (Just spitballing numbers) so to me it’s not that bad loss vs victory. Since 4 losses could be the same GP as a win (If you’re performing well and maxing out your GP).

For points 4 & 5 I really kinda agree or just have nothing to say.

But I tried to offer a solution/explanation. to each point. I too hope the game gets better but Ranked is in a preseason/BETA stage right now so the feedback is good.
