Ranked Preseason Feedback

#BringBackTDM. That said, you should probably add a surrender option to KOTH, make it so the whole team has to agree in order to surrender, and if they do, lower the penalties, so those of us who dont like koth and are forced to play it can leave the match when it becomes obvious its a losing game, That way you avoid penalties for leaving and boring long matches with uneven teams due to quitters… just as easy as a surrender option, also, #BringBackTDM.

This is a really great point that, I agree, most people don’t understand. Even if people are carried in the earlier ranks, there will be an equalization point where that person is consistently out of their league, they won’t perform well, the team will lose and their performance can’t cover the cost of entry and will lose rank.

Meanwhile those who, actually play well individually, should be able to cover or limit their losses preventing significant (or any) loss of rank, but you won’t move up much without the win. That’s actually a great system. This is basically what everyone was asking for in the gears 4 ranking system. And it’s transparent in letting us see and know how we are tracking every moment.

This system rewards winning and high performance while punishing the low performers. If you lose a match, and are as good as a lot of you think you are then you don’t really lose anything rank-wise, whereas it used to be you would lose rank because of losing as team while outperforming everyone else. This system addresses that.

As far as people ranking up while not pulling their weight getting easy elimination points, see my previous comment about a point of equilibrium. The separation of the wheat and chaff, as someone put it, may not be immediate, but it seems like the separation will become more apparent as you climb to the higher ranks.

I think there were 2 big frustrations a lot of people had with the previous gears 4/5 ranking systems.

Edit-I apologize if this overlaps my other two comments I just posted, just thought it would be helpful to respond to a specific comment

  1. was that a lot of people weren’t ranking up when they were winning a lot, which doesn’t make much sense. From what I remember those who were most vocal about this were often high performers (at least self-proclaimed). This system does a good job in promoting winners, and better players still move up faster. I am supportive of raising the performance gp cap a little though.

  2. was that there were many instances where a person would consistently perform well and win matches, lose one match and then get deranked for one loss (sometimes just barely) even when they rocked it individually.

This system seems to prevent rank loss if you actually perform well individually (which is still a form of progress as low performing people are pushed down by losing gp), and at least at the silver level you can still gain some points if you play really well while on the losing team. Though admittedly, gaining gp this way seems a little slow.

In the end, I think this system rewards consistent performance/results, and will get people where they are at a rank with similarly skilled people.

Edit2- people have been talking about capping performance gp in gold rank and still losing points with no W and that’s messed up, I think.

Also, I agree the gp caps should adjusted to the playlist if not raised everywhere, especially for koth. Due to the nature of single life modes, Gridiron is much more difficult to cap out gp, so I would be fine leaving that as is.

Gp system is in koth is the worst you Can get 110 kills 16 caps and 7 breaks that u Can lose the MVP over a player with 10 caps 8 breaks and 44 kills, this system is the worst, gnasher is way inconsistent then before,bullets come out one side and not the front of the gun making the gnasher so inconsistent , wall bounce speed should bé back this game feels off, like a beta version, this must be fix , i get people love the gp system but the ones that Can only kills 20 kills per match and get the rest From assist , I get people love this gnasher but the ones who got lower ping, and in the short combat that gives an advantage, by the way everyone here has the same issues with the gnasher, the gnasher stops shooting in many occasions, that something did not happen in past operations, when you fall and you have grenades in your hands it takes 3 seconds to explode and if you explode the grenade makes it far from you, these details make the game feel like a beta

Just to concur multiplayer is laggy and I’m sticking WAY too much, UK based. I am enjoying aspects of 5 without a doubt but tonight as most nights my “Gears” time will be spent on 3 and 4.

As for Ranked, I’m not happy about losing points when I decide at 5v3 (against,) on KOTH is not worth my time.

We need a solo lobby, just played a team of 4, got soundly beaten… Obviously, not much fun to be had.
And it is not as easy as “team up” some players could have issues where they can not communicate in a party or lobby or have anxiety issues.

After some more consideration I’ve come to the conclusion that allowing players to reach the GP cap however they want would be the best solution.

This way there’s still a safeguard against GP farming, but players aren’t forced to go for a play that doesn’t benefit their team just to get extra GPs. Even Jonathan mentioned in the last stream that, if the system pushes players to stop supporting so enemies can break and then get an extra cap, something needs to change.

KOTH is a very dynamic mode, so depending on how the match evolves, the optimal play may differ. If a team can win a round with only 3 caps because they managed to flawlessly hold their setup, why would they be rewarded less than a team who gets their setups broken multiple times (and gets more caps and breaks as a consequence)?

As for how much GP should be awarded for eliminations/caps/breaks, that’s another debate entirely, different people will have different views, doesn’t change my point.

All I want to say about eliminations is that GP gains should be based upon damage. It’s absolutely ridiculous that in a match of 2v2, if I win my 1v1 and my teammate does too, we can get double the GPs by finishing each other downs, or getting a pellet on each opponent beforehand.

I really like this new ranked system but i think are few things that can still be improved.

  • First, I understand that you want an easy accessible rank but i dont think any rank (no matter how low) should be free. I think that having low buy in (say 15 to 40 gp) would give all the ranks more meaning. Getting silver now just means you loaded in and hit a few lancer bullets, this means that silver 1 is essentially the lowest rank and bronze feels like a time waste.

-Second, right now, Im not sure what silver 1, 2, 3 means. I have the same buy in. Unless I dont understand the matchmaking, I get put in matches with the same people. I guess I get rewarded for going up from 1 to the other and is says how close I am to the color. Right now the sub ranks feel pointless. I think that adding a small increase in the buy in for the smaller ranks. Silver 1 could buy in at 55 silver 2 at 60 and silver 3 at 65. Then have bigger jumps when you go from silver to gold.

-Last, I think that we should be awarded for round AND match wins. I mostly play koth so at most you play 3 rounds and you get 150 for the match win. I assume that you have point calculations that you need to keep correct, but does that break if you give us 50 or 25 for round wins and 50 or 75 for match wins (I lean more towards 25 for the round and 75 for match). I happen to believe that the winning team deserves a majority of the points (even though I mostly que solo and suffer for it) but I also think that we should be rewarded when we take a round of the winning team.

GP is the worst thing they’ve come up with yet, period, let alone the caps on it. And it’s here to stay. But I know who IS happy about it…:sheep::sheep::sheep::sheep::sheep::sheep::sheep:

2 other things I noticed…a minor one and a major one

1 - I’ve been able to cap eliminations in the first round of a koth match…played another one just for captures and breaks…my slaying has been useless points wise as much as was necessary for carrying and winning the match
I suggest to have round separation for everything… elims, captures, breaks and round won score

2 - major issue: you should not lose points for reaching all caps, this happened in a second match

I believe the entry fee should never be more than the highest achievable points (not considering points for the win of course)

ranking system was not really the issue, it’s still the matchmaking and there’s a lot of factors INCLUDING the operation rank reset

if a players gets to masters or diamond (multiple times) starting at bronze again is just boring, counterproductive and lame getting matched with people that don’t know what to do.

this was literally the major complaint about the old ranking system, masters with bronzes and vice versa
If I’m playing solo, (gold rn but I’ve always been masters) I end up with people walking, sniping with the gnasher and not knowing how to play the game
I don’t belong in these lobbies and they don’t belong in mine

I know, they got bad players thinking they are doing what they need to do. Just because they got their GP. Come on now. And the DEV said taking the cap off the GP would make people start farming points. So TC whole vision for MP is just idiotic. I want scores, and leaderboards. They are just making this game so noob friendly, and that’s not what RANKED should be all about. It should be about separating the good and bad players,

Someone please explain to me how I’m supposed to compensate for this action?

On exhibit up top by frags. I’m on the other side of the column before the ring. The player throws a flash and rushes. She slides into cover and wrap around shot me. Her back on my screen never got off the otherside of the column.

I cant fight against that type of connection and it showed.

Next game my shotgun was nasty. It shouldnt be like that.

So i’ve not really had the time to sit down and play a lot of Ranked lately, hence the low rank.

But even having only played roughly 15 or so matches of King of the Hill i can see some glaring issues.

I’ll use a recent game as an example, i’ll show two images, the first is after the first round (three in total) and the second is the final score of the match.


Here’s some of the issues i have so far.

  1. The cap for Eliminations, Captures and Breaks is far too low. I only achieve another 13 points after the first round as i’ve already nearly maxed out my GP in just the first round. I think these values need to be adjusted a lot for King of the Hill as the cap is far too low and doesn’t feel rewarding.

  2. Despite carrying i only received 4 more GP than my friend. I don’t think it’s right that everyone receives almost the same amount of GP when the scoreboard tells a very different story. I have the most of everything that the scoreboard records yet only get rewarded with a couple more GP. The gap should be wider allowing players who really perform well to receive the most points and the players who struggle should only gain a few or at least enough to cover the cost of entry.

  3. How GP is rewarded. I don’t think it’s fair that someone who puts a single Lancer bullet into an opponent is rewarded with the same amount of GP than someone who actually does all the work and kills them. This messes up the scoreboard and blurs who’s really making a difference and doing the most for the team. I understand support players need a way to earn GP if their not directly in the fight, but i think it’s very cheap and makes some players look a bit better than they really are.

  4. Stacks. Man, i know i’m currently only at Silver as i haven’t had the time to play, but damn even at Silver there are so many stacks. I can’t imagine what the higher ranks are like when the skill level also goes up, i honestly don’t know if it would even be possible to get Masters as a solo from what i’ve seen. Luckily the stack in the image wasn’t the greatest, but i still think it’s unfair to match all solo players with a full 5 man stack. I know a solo queue option can’t happen due to low player population which means the matchmaking system needs to do a better job at pairing stacked players with other stacked players, because all i find even at low ranks is just stacks.

  5. Quitters. Why am i still punished for quitters?. Surely with a brand new ranking system you could’ve come up with a way to not screw over players who aren’t scumbags and quit. Maybe give the remaining players a split of the quitters GP they earned before they quit?. Also you could find ways to punish the quitter by maybe dropping their rank or give them a GP penalty for their next match so they only earn back the entry cost even on a win or something until they play again without quitting and it returns to normal.

  6. Entry costs at different ranks. Even though i’ve only played up to Silver, i can see an issue with the amount of GP it costs to enter a match. I think it’s a little too steep, even if you gain the maximum amount of points being 100 GP, unless you are in Silver or below you cannot progress without winning. If i outperform and carry my team yet still lose because my team can’t keep up i get punished, this isn’t fair. I think Diamond and Master should be this way, but up until you’ve passed Onyx the entry cost should be just lower than the maximum amount of points you can earn. Example being 90 GP to enter as Onyx and 120 to enter as Diamond, this helps individual players who perform really well and gets them out of low ranks quicker so they are matched with people more their skill level.

Just a couple of issues i have, probably not explained very well and i’m sure there’s a lot more. But i’m tired and wanted to give some feedback for what it’s worth before they make changes to the system.

Anyone else getting a high amount of random disconnects and then not being able to go back into the match? When i go back to versus it just has me search for a new game, are these disconnects on their end and the entire match being dissolved? Im using a wired connection and dont have this issue with any other game. playing on PC

Had this annoying player being a cry baby one game because I didn’t cap or break.

Had maybe over 100 kills but they maybe had 40 but with double digit caps & break.

I had maybe single digit breaks but I was like cmon. I’m the reason you cap & break.

@VisioN_Shura30 you just gotta win. If you don’t win you lose points but not that much. It’s not a big deal.

I am trying to go up in all vs all but when I reach gold 1 I can no longer find a match, what can I do?
