So you changed your mind? Glad to hear that. Because the only progress this ranked system makes is it gets progressively worse . Try making it to diamond. At 170 gp buy in per game. There is no point in playing ,past that point, as a solo. It’s rediculous. Anyone still following this ranked system??? 





It was fine until they changed the elim points to 1, With the initial 2 it was at least possible to compensate the entrance just by killing as much enemies as possible.
Cant believe im saying this but,… I miss the old system now. Yeah it punished for losing too, but at least i was able to rank up to diamond 3 even if I lost several matches. With this new thing one need to win yes or yes, and keeps punishing you just for losing, and being a solo player doesnt help either.
Nah the old one was worse. They legitimately said it was giving points out randomly sometimes on top of that there was plenty of times you’d win and do well and still rank down. It was widely regarded as garbage on this forum and every other. All this one needs is tweaks that will be obvious. That’s the reason for the pre season. I get it can be frustrating at times right now but it’s still better
Something I think a lot of people don’t seem to distinguish is that their is a difference between A) support, B) aiding/riding on a stack and C) obviously, being someone who lands a couple bullets to get credit.
You can make big plays without being a slayer. Meaning that you can support the slayers, but that does not mean you sit back and lancer in a stack or are dead weight. These often go more unnoticed because they don’t have scoreboard points attached to them, but a good support player can make the slayers become monsters on the field.
Aside from obvious additional support damage and a few kills, in support you can open up so many doors for the slayers if you know map control (how hold off, push/pull/distract enemy movement, help make a push, deter the enemy, etc.). One example in real life is like helping play solid zone defense in sports. A solid zone defense is so much harder to break than man to man. There are offensive map control tactics too.
Asset denial, can be game changing though it can also circumstantial as to whether it is beneficial or just a waste.
Obviously, increased numbers and pressure (or stacking) is can be a form of support like when making a push, though in fairness sometimes stacking is just stacking.
Being there for smart revives, helping spot enemies to increase team awareness, and getting weapons to give to the slayers are a few more things.
Many of these things are things a support player can add that aren’t point related but often sometimes be game changers when helping out the slayers.
It seems like a bunch of people are forgetting or weren’t around for to understand a lot of the points you just made.
Ive been playing since day one, im aware of how ■■■■■■ the old one was. But fr, this new system feels no rewarding at all, it focuses waaay to much on winning.
The ranking system is now worse because of this update. You win 5 times in Diamond, get 140 points total only to lose 150 points when you lose one game. It wasn’t a good idea to decrease elims just for the leaderboard’s sake. This game is really now just about winning, and not just winning; you must win without dropping a game to rank up. The only people in masters are pc players and a few pros because they all stack. Not to mention the unfair advantage controller players have against mouse and keyboard but that’s another topic.
Change it back to 2 points per elim . It takes a long time to get 80 elims in a game. If you lose one game you lose a ton of points. Losing a game should not erase the amount of gp you built up off wins. If it’s just for the sake of the leaderboards bring back match points and leave another column for GP. Don’t rank the leaderboards of GP but the match points.
On another note, I keep mentioning that solos that queue up should have less of a buy vs those that stack. It’s fair to the solos and wins still matter if that’s all that matters to you guys
either what I just mentioned or give more points for a win. Again you SHOULD NOT rank down because you won 5 games, out performed your team, and lost two games. If winning is that important give more points for a win so that you don’t have to win 10 games to cancel out the 2 loses
I actually like the system but there are tweaks that need to be made
Bring back the 2 GP per kill
If you want leaderboards to show who did the most work, bring back the leaderboards from last season with match points. Leave a breakdown of the GP gained for after the game
Work with the solo queue players. Lower the buy ins for the solo queue players and as they team up increase the buy in
All these changes can be made without taking away the 100 point GP cap for ranked.
At this point the ranking system only truly works for ffa. If you’re good at the game, you get more points. If you aren’t too good, you earn less points and rank down. It’s straight forward
I am so happy to see the community see how horrible the koth ranking system is and it being one of the only few team game modes available. Everybody is losing rank due to the elims per point being changed from 2 to 1 . Only 5 stack of PC players or esports players can consistently win for them to be not effected by the new changes. I just don’t understand why the coalition made that change without our approval. We all said as a community to increase the Gears point cap not make it harder to achieve.
The coalition is so out of touch with their fan base. Why doesn’t Dana or someone from the development team actually try to rank up to diamond or master by beta testing the changes before they implement them. If they knew how frustrating and depressing the ranking system was first hand they would have never made such horrible changes and be proud of it. They instead use us as guinea pigs to test their horrible new ranking system then ignore our feedback and they lack common sense.
Testing Koth and the ranking system just doesn’t work. By this I mean you can face silvers who have a skill set of a previous diamond. And vice versa. The rank doesn’t tell you how good the player actually is, but how much he/she has grinded the game mode with a team.
Give MVPs from both teams a GP boost so it makes even a little difference who is skilled in the game.
The rank system is basically a 5 man stack rank system and doens’t mirror one bit the skill level of a person. I went up to onyx 3 easy with friends and then started playing alone a few time and now I am gold 2 again because it is impossible to win with randoms no matter how good you play.
Totally agree. I remember in a developer stream a person of high influence in the community mentioned the change (won’t mention names) and it seems like they just went along with what he suggested without thinking about it.
To change the GP just for the sake of leaderboards is not good at all. There are MANY ways to change the leaderboards to reflect player performance which they have actually already shown they can do.
I’ve heard people say that Pros play as Masters and so they should be in the masters tiers. That’s true but there are definitely other players in the community that may not be on the level of a pro but play very well to be in Masters. It’s now near impossible to get masters unless you run with specific stacks or pc stacks. I personally liked the fact that I could make it to masters last season without having to stack at all just playing solo. Really hope they start listening to the community and not just game influencers who hardly play the game enough to even understand the ranking system

I can’t find KOTH matches easily after elimination’s GP adjustment, are you guys keeping record of player’s base? I don’t feel that was a good decision especially keeping the same horrendous GP’s entry
Placement matches are needed. With the gp reduction and bunching everyone in bronze again will back fire on you TC. There needs to be separation from the pack early to have fair match making. The Caps Really need to be looked at, your quick fix of reducing gp just created other issues. Instead of just looking at it as A and B issue why don’t you take into consideration C,D,E, and F.

Matches are as competitive as ever. Much more than Gears 4 (and that was pretty damn good).

Adding the viewing of ranks at the end of the game and for your team before was the best thing ever. Just that alone brought back the majority of players and keeps people playing much more and more consistently than ever. Now we just need to be able to see teammates ranks in the main menu prior to searching and we’ll be all good there.

Removing Escalation was a bad idea because now KOTH is filled with those competitive lancer/super try-hard teams that would play Esca, and it should be separated as there are two types of comp. players in Gears. The two player bases should not be forced to mix.

TDM being only solos and duos makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. TEAM Deathmatch should also not be 4v4, but I guess we’ll see how that goes.

GP cap in KOTH should be higher, kills should be 2 GP, assists should be 1 GP.

Winning faster in KOTH is worse for you as you get less GP and might even lose GP for winning fast enough in higher tiers.

Bring back the scores on the scoreboard, having GP there makes no sense and team standings are very, very wrong as MVP is usually someone with 10 Caps, 4 Breaks, and 40 elims., while someone else will have 10 Caps, 2 Breaks, and 85 elims. This would be awesome to have back.

And please, try to go back to Gears 4 where 5 stacks were prioritized with other 5 stacks, I really don’t know why this wasn’t implemented again in Gears 5. Nearly every match here is against a 5 stack when you’re not in one.

I’m the only one who find this ranking system ■■■■■■ up, or ? Like -130 to play a Gold Game ? Meaning that if you lose,you lose point,no latter what you did in the game. That system was already ridiculous in Overwatch but in Gears, with a community so small that bronze and gold are grouped together, it’s just horrible. Since we only get 1 pts per kill, i find the ranked games more frustrating than never before.
The reduction in elim points was a step in the right direction IMO. They just need to adjust the buy ins and scale down the GP needed to rank up per sub tier to compensate.
Also, if they made it 1 point per kill that’d be great. But this elim business… Landing one pellet from 10m is just as good as a 10 sec sweat fest 1v1. Casually spritzing the whole enemy team with a stray bullet a piece cross map is just as good as a 1v5 clutch? It needs some adjustments. I do like to play with team in mind, but I think it’s weighted too heavily in that direction.
