Ranked Preseason Feedback

I understand when a whole squad does it it will be hard and it was in other Gears games. But individually alone it is very very overpowerd, You cant deny that, they tried to fix it but it didnt work. Removing active reload from it didnt fix it. It needs to be reworked so individually it isnt so overpowered.

Disconnects:
Well it shouldnt happen in the first place, there are servers and idk why those DC’s happen. But hopefully there is a fix so ppl dont get kicked out of their matches and lose points undeservingly.

GP Ranked:
Well my main issue is that bad players shouldnt be rewarded as much as good players, because there is no gap in it. There needs to be, how will bad people eventually get good at the game? And it isnt fun playing against a team of sweats on my own without having people that know what they are doing. I view them and it becomes annoying because im there trying while they dont know what they are doing. I need people from my rank on my team. With wins i obviously rank up but if i keep getting ■■■■ on my team while carrying and a limit on my GP how am i going to ranl up in this unfair matching?

I appericiate you trying to explain it, but those points really need fixing. It really can ruin my experience with Gears 5. But im positive with Rod Fergeson gone the game will improve, it already had been, but it can be better hence why i got on the forum to share my views. Hopefully they pick up from it. Its preseason so im giving all my feedback to have a good Ranked mode when it comes out, so i can get Masters fairly. Rod was the main problem and now he is gone so we can look forward now.

I’m honestly just playing ranked for the achievement. Trying to get to Silver I, with the new GP system I can actually do that as I don’t have a solid group of people to play with. So I am constantly with randoms and like you said the matchmaking is horrendous and I am constantly playing against people who aren’t in the same rank so I my team gets steamrolled all the time. I’m an average player at best and very rarely get MVP when playing anything other than Co-Op vs AI, I normally rank 2-4 on my team of randoms, but I am currently not playing against other Bronze tier players, just like it was prior to OP4.

This is why I hated going for Grind Season. The matchmaking is horrible that teams are unfairly unbalanced and the team I was on 9 times out of 10 would lose horribly.

That and every single game i’ve been in so far since the OP4 update has had quitters or people who have disconnected on my team making the game even more unbalanced. It’s not fun playing 3v5 or 2v5 and when that many people on my team quit I just stop playing. I’ll take the loss, but there is no point running into a group of 5 enemies just to give them a free kill.

What TC should implement is once someone quits on the either team a vote option to end the match should be given to the team with the quitter. If they choose to end the match, it counts a draw for them and they lose nothing and only gain what they’ve earned so far, but its counts as a win for the other team and they get half the GP of a win. However if they choose to continue instead, it’s treated as a normal Ranked match unless someone quits on the other team. This option would only be given 1 per match the first time someone quits on a team.

It just feels like a waste of time to go the distance or keep playing sometimes when half your team quits out.

Tired of playing stacked TEAMS!

There’s so many stacks , back to back to back stacked teams.

When I stack I face randoms. Cmon.

I’m to the point where I’m not even going to play ranked because I’m so turned off.

There’s so many stacks , make them versus each other & us 1-3 party players against each other.

It’s RIDICULOUS. Please.

Of course a 5 stack will always have an advantage. If I have to explain how it’s ridiculous go try it.

YES!! Literally I play back to back 5 stacks!! Like if there’s so many stacks why can’t they face each other ?!?!

Why do they have to go against 2 stacks or solo players!?

It really angers me.

As a person opinion, I cannot agree with you more. I don’t understand why the issue of stacks versus solo players is currently ignored by the ranking/matchmaking system,

It seems to be a massive oversight on TC’s part.

Yeah, stacks are a huge problem. Like you stated tho, when I stack with just me and one other person all other stacks disappear. It’s bizarre. Could be coincidence, but I dunno. In any case I know games that have done solo playlists. I also know games that have parties only pair up with other parties and solos vs solos.

I have no idea how TC thinks this is acceptable or that you can even work around this. You can’t with the way it is now. Solo play is a nightmare.

After playing more KOTH I have come up to the conclussion that this ranking system is unfair, it focuses a lot on winning that the game literally punish if you are in the losing team.

The other day I had a very close match that lost by a small margin. Ended with more than 10 captures and around 110 eliminations, could barely get above 95 GP. And then theres the enemy team, 3 players got literally carried, the worst player got more than 200GP. So why they got way more points even if I had 60 more eliminations and 6 more captures? I love how this new system is completely honest with how you get your points, but is far from representing an individual performance.

My ideas to improve it or make it more fair:

1.- Remove the eliminations limit, or at least double the points, this way those extra 60 wont feel worthless at all. If this could (and will) lead to a lancer fest for people farming, make them kills instead, at least player would need to put an extra effort to get those points.

2.-KOTH is an objective mode, so is logical that capturing the ring should get you more points. Kills are important, but this isnt TDM. Change the objetive point from 1 to 2.

3.- What about an “extra GP reward” at the end of the match for all those medals you got? (First kill, double, triple kill, nemesis) imo this is a good way to know if you did good on the game and measure your individual performance, I have had super short matches that literally feel like a waste because no one manage to get the max points when the match ends.

You cant always win, but the game shouldnt punish you for losing either. And if you didnt do well? Then get less performance rewards or nothing at all. Remember the “under the radar” medal from Gears 3? (The game basically made fun of you for being a bad player lol)

Im a solo player, and honestly is a damn hell to rank up at times, specially when you are against a stack team that is obliterating yours, and if a teammate quits? Even worse, always end up losing points in this case because is hard to compensate the fee entrance.

I JUST WANTS TO GIVE MY OPINION ON THIS OP4…IT IS QUITE GOOD…BUT SOMETIMES WHEN LOBBY DISSOLVED DUE TO PLAYER LEAVING THE MATCH IT AUTOMATICALLY DEDUCT GP OF PLAYERS WHO ARE STILL THERE IN MATCHMAKING,
SOMETIMES IN BETWEEN A MACTH PLAYERS LAG OUT AND AFTER THAT THEY COULD NOT REJOIN THE MATCH.THIS CAUSES LOSS TO TEAM MATES TOO,
AND MY SUGGESTION FOR KOTH IS TO GIVE ,
2GP FOR CAPS MAX 15 HILL,
2GP FOR CROSS MAX 15 HILL,
1GP FOR ELIMINATION MAX 60 ELIMINATIONS,
AND WINNING THE MATCH WILL GIVE 150 GP FROM BRONZE TO GOLD,
AND 200 GP FROM ONYX TO MASTER,
SO THAT PLAYER CAN GET ENOUGH GP FOR WINNING IN HIGHER TIERS.AND THEY CAN COVER THAT ENTRY COST OF MATCH.
THIS GP SYSTEM IS OBEJECTIVE BASED.WHERE PLAYERS HAVE TO CROSS AND CAP RATHER THEN JUST KILLING.strong text

GP in KoTH is terrible. The whole squad can get one elim on one player from the other team which is however many GPS. That is incredibly cheap. And it’s also incredibly boring to play ranked right now because that’s all everybody does it lancer. This system inflates the numbers of diamond to an unreleasitc amount. It’s not skill based in the least. Get rid of elims and make it kills like every other gears game. That will improve the quality of gameplay tremendously.

I only just started but so far The ranking system is way better than before!
I am only in the bronze tier compared to being Master before took a long long break.
so I don’t know how the GP/higher rank entry costs will play out compared to the GP rewards
seems like you will have to win every game which is fine.

Now if you are playing KOTH alone and you will get green as grass random team mates when playing vs some OK stacked team, you can pretty much give up at the beginning of a match.
All your sweat and tears won’t be rewarded. You will lose points even if you have most caps. breaks and eleminations. What is better, your green team mate will have one point less or more only because he was let’s say finishing your downs and got to ring when you made this possible for him. This is somehow discouraging I think.
It’s best visible on 2v2. One person is making downs, second one is only taking them and yet they are scored the same.
This system would be ok but it’s clear that in current state personal performance is not awarded. This system is most favorable if you are good but also have good team.
Don’t get me wrong, Gears of War was always easier when palyed with good team, but when you was facing good team you could still be happy at the end even when you lost. Lots of kills, points or MVP. Now you can have lots of meaningles eleminations, around 90 points and MVP is only for winning champs.
I am almost 40 years old and can’t really play Gears 5 but I always had at least that diamond and now I am stucked on gold playing with random onyx team mates that are even worse than me because they made that rank on a back of their friends or something.
Also another thing are quiters. I pay my hard erned xp to enter match then somebody quits I quit after and still get my xp stolen.
I remember times when I was trying to win matches 2v4, 4v5 etc., not it’s just not worth the trouble.

Big up to steeloak, OG of the game, great feedback.

  • GP should only be visible to you, and only on the post match screen.

  • Score needs to return to the in-game leaderboard.

  • Return to Kills/Assists please as eliminations are currently meaningless with GP and although eliminations were introduced to try to ease the frustration of kill stealing really all it does is pander to casuals and make them feel like they’re performing.

  • In team based modes, revives should always count for GP.

  • The current system needs to factor in performance against stacks, quitters, performing against players ranked higher than you. Currently it just feels like more of a grind than a skill based ranking system, especially with how easy eliminations are to get.

  • Please remove weapon respawn times from ranked. It was one of the edges experienced players had in Gears 4 and now it just encourages people to sit near power weapons at sub-30 seconds to go.

  • Please remove the ability to see opponents grenade tags through walls.

anyways I like this new Ranking system a lot but…
I feel like the GP needs a higher cap balance for example Bronze anyone can get out of just by playing as well as sliver for the most part but starting Gold and up it’s a must win every time to have a chance of Ranking up.
which is fine but the point gains will be so slow… the higher you get.

also once people get to Master will anyone truly play on it until the new season? with a 200 GP entry
tbh I probably won’t.

that’s why I also miss the Highest rank achieved stat per playlist/leaderboard before it was removed
you could see how high your Master was compared to others

Bro I just got to diamond KOTH solo. It’s not worth the effort to keep going as a solo. Your chances of getting screwed outweigh your chances of winning . No quit penalities, no common sense in the rank system , period .
