The way I see it, Gears of War 4 has two different cooldowns mechanics with regard to wallbouncing: I’m gonna call them the “longbounce cooldown” and the “unconditional cooldown”.
The “longbounce cooldown” is that if you cancel a cover slide before reaching a wall, your cover slide range is temporarily reduced (although this DOES NOT affect how soon you can cover slide again; you should be able to cover slide to another wall as normal after the slide cancel assuming the second wall is close enough to compensate for range reduction).
The “unconditional cooldown” occurs at the end of EVERY cover slide. Basically, after cover sliding, you can’t cover slide AT ALL again for a short moment (a fraction of a second)—this cooldown is actually a bit longer if you don’t cancel the slide before reaching a wall. This second cooldown effectively means that’s it’s impossible to change direction instantly—there will always be a slight delay between, say a left slide and a right slide.
I’ve don’t have any sources to back this info up, which is why I’m asking here if I have all my facts straight. So… do I have all my facts straight?
By the way, as mentioned in the title, this specifically pertains to Gears of War 4; I’m aware that other titles have slightly different mechanics.
