Playerbase decline discussion

I still play because it gives me an excuse to drink beer and yell at the TV but I will say I don’t play everyday like I used to. I do still drink everyday though so there is that I guess.

There was sarcasm, sorry you missed it.

There is a lot I don’t like in this game but I literally can’t play ranked with 150+ ping. It’s a nightmare. Also you seem to get downed in less than a second from any damage, any distance. I’m not amazing at VS but I’ve never been bad at it and I feel like I can’t get anywhere in the game.

The greed is mad as well.

Gears 4 in the meantime. Gears 3 as well seems slightly more populated than usual at the moment.

What made me quit is TC blatantly foregoing the main issues to try to satisfy a demographic they wish to cater to that isn’t their main audience. They believe that the goal is try to to cram in as much content as possible albeit said content is just shallow. Multiplayer is a key feature of this game and it suffers from the same issues Gears 4 did but worse. Bullet registration is trash, the netcode may as well be peer-to-peer, and Ranked matches, which are the only way to consistently play KoTH yet again, match you with people who have less-than-ideal network connections, once again making Ranked play a joke.

All it would take for me to come back to this game is to rework the netcode so I don’t feel like I’m playing 100ms behind everyone else in the lobby where shots aren’t registering and people so much as look in my general direction and kill me. In addition, TC needs to rethink their monetization scheme as they are blatantly lying when they say they are, “learning as we go”. You learned your lesson in the three years Gears 4 was active. Don’t give us that lame excuse. Content should be earned through gameplay. That’s why I bought the game to begin with. To play it and maybe be rewarded for my efforts to complete a task. Not to be trickle fed ■■■■■■■■ after I’ve spent my money on the game, or at least I would have if I wasn’t aware of the Game Pass deal; I have zero desire to actually purchase this game anytime soon.

They claimed they earned my trust but so far all they’ve earn is my disgust.

I play escape 80% of the time and it’s not uncommon at all that I run into someone I know in a pub match. I look on the leaderboards for the current hive and I either know of or have played with a large amount of those players.

Some random person on the forums commented on a versus match I mentioned that I played in and said we were on the same team.

It seems the player base already has that “small world” feel like it did in the latter part of the GOW4 lifecycle.

Honestly if it weren’t for escape I don’t know if I’d be playing as much as I used to or at all. That’s quite a statement as I love this game (love/hate) and logged in probably over 3000 hours in versus alone in GOW4.

This game deserves worse imo …

It was a back Stab & a betrayal to OG gears fans …

The way this game got downgraded from previous games is just Unacceptable …

Few days after release servers seemed fine and I thought it’s the easiest Gears game to get kills. Then I started getting 150+ pings and it’s a struggle. There’s always been some sponging in every Gears but this is something else entirely. Nearly unplayable and it’s Microsoft’s biggest AAA game of the year…

I also play ranked KotH.

KotH is generally my preferred game type… but with 150 odd ping it was turning me into a Lancer goon and it was incredibly boring. Purely because running in gnasher style doesn’t work to well with such a crap delay.

Public Horde player here… Maps are to few and quite boring(not made for horde), there is not even a suitable place to hold the base, forcing me to play a class the way they want me to, forcing me to play a class I don’t want to, forcing me to play a character I don’t like, quitters are higher than ever, bad servers, engii was too powerful before and now it is even more powerful than ever, power drop is still present, skill cards are weak, perks are weak and I am pretty sure there are more reasons but I need some coffee to wake me up right now.

You earn content in ToD sorry you actually have to work for it and you don’t have 80% of the roster by reaching level 100 in 3 days of Koth. Spending money on a product doesn’t entitle you to a bunch of free things from the company that produced. I’ve spent money at McDonalds so I deserve some free nuggets the next time i go in or at least a free drink. as a thank you from the company. They owe me after all.

Be careful what you call content, skins, marks, banners and blood sprays are filler at best. you have all playable characters when you boot the game for the first time and that’s all there is.

Content is the amount of things there are to do in the game. Content isn’t the amount of digital cosmetics in a game. This isn’t a dress up game. You get campaign, multiplayer, horde, and escape, free maps, and free game modes. Now it’s one thing if you wanna say you don’t care for the content in the game. That’s fine it’s subjective I personally like horde and escape but I know a lot of people don’t. However, it’s another thing to say there’s no content because there are only a few characters. Everybody has their favorites of course but I play the game for more than the characters and the skins I can dress them up in. I would love cole to be in the game atm but I’m not gonna scream and whine because he isn’t

Only 7 in rotation maps for ranked play soon to be 8, the actual competitive side of mp is marred by poor match quality, Campaign is short buggy and unbeatable due to bugs for some, gears 3 launched with 42 characters to play at launch, also had more starting loadout options. Escape is a half baked mode as of right now, the content that is available is shallow and that will only be more apparent as time goes on.

You’re acting like last gears games released with 20 maps it’s like a 3 map difference. 7 isn’t that bad but sure I guess I wouldn’t be mad at more. The campaign is the longest out of all the gears game’s especially if you do the side missions. Saying gears launched with 42 characters is disingenuous. Majority of them were reskins you’re acting like they were all unique. This game could have more load our weapons but every body cried over the retro, sawed off, and hammer bust and so this is what we are left with. A shallow escape is more than no escape which gears 3 did not have

Sorry but that’s a bad analogy. It’s more like McDonald’s giving you less food for the same price or just providing less value in your fast food experience.

The problem is we’ve already had gears games that did this better. We should be making progress with each new title. Not going backward. This game has a very unsatisfying unlock progression system as far as most sane people are concerned. That’s a legit concern. Especially when previous titles handled the same things in a much better way.

First impression is everything. Launching with bugs is a killer, only a few maps, overpriced store… those are just a few things that would turn people off to be like “screw this” and not come back. Only dedicated Gears fans would return but most gamers won’t.

3 maps is a big difference when you only play mp, combine with the small roster the game gets stale fast. the skiff adds tons of time to the campaign but again is shallow and gets stale fast, gears 3 had 37 unique playable characters at launch. gears 3 also had beast mode that 5 dose not have.

Those extra 3 made a difference in the rotation. It felt less repetitive and the launch maps in Gears3 were arguably better designed than the current ones.

The campaign felt longer because they padded it with the open world acts 2-3, but the story suffered because of it due to terrible pacing and uninspiring side quests.

Gears 3 may not have had Escape, but it did have Beast(or whatever the mode was called).

PWell im new at gears. And tbh i will stay that way. Indeed there is a learning curve. But the gameplay in multiplayer feels so clunky. Ranked is all about shotgun which gets boring after a night of play.

Not to mention in ranked characters means nothing. I like the idea where each character got a unique set of skills.

Im no Pro…and dont have the time for it either.
But tbh you really have to be a die hard gears fan to stick to this game.

I’m from the UK, so EU servers, and I checked the server browser and there was only 18 players total online at that time. It’s no wonder they have to fill lobbies with bots.
