Play an engineer if you want to build

I get what you mean regarding not wanting engineers to be there just because of buffs. At the same time though, isn’t that kind of already the case, just puts all the pressure on one person to do it all? People only want Engineers because of the cheaper base building and easier maintaining. Doesn’t sound too different from just being there because of buffs IMO.

Ny main problem is how the way the power economy works in both Gears 4 AND 5 to heavily favor and entitle Engineers. This used to be an issue in 4 with the Scout too via how power was acquired. But they fixed the Scout economy problem, so I can’t help but wonder if they can’t somehow fix the Engineer economy problem.

I’m all for Engineers having exclusive repair speed and other maintenance buffs, as well as the Global Fort buffs like Robotics Expert has (and nobody complains about those cards applying to the whole team like it currently does). My main problem is having all the mandatory deposits be essentially required and having to wait for an Engineer to build the exact same thing you need only because it is cheaper, because of how the economy works.

I don’t think it is necessarily a bad thing to have a class or dedicated to base-building, but at the same time, I’ve really enjoyed non-Engineer runs because instead of all the fuss over wether or not the Engineer will build this or that, each person can just focus on getting what they need to help them out in the lane that they are holding. A lot less needlessly complicated.

All that being said, I’m cool with how it is right now and really enjoy playing the game, Engineer or not. I think that it is all in a pretty good spot. You are right, you will never get rid of the human factor (but that is also part of the fun). Randoms will be randoms, but my luck seems to go pretty well in that department with customs.

I honestly think NOT having engineer in my games has been less stressful than having one, especially when I’m playing with random engineer who tends to be :wastebasket:.

I’m not saying engineers are not worth it. In fact, a good engineer can make so much difference for the team.

The best thing to do when you have a crap engineer is to kick or restart. Trying to go through a game like that is stressful and nearly :100: of the time, the game is doomed.

That’s where being able to build yourself can be handy.
If the engineer won’t listen, building a few things yourself can help salvage things.
Especially if they think sentry > wire/locker

Robotics Expert has sentry cards, so they must be spammed,

That’s what I call a bad/selfish engineer if they think that a sentry card should be a part of your setup.

I’ve never put that card on with Baired.

Well I guess my point was, if everyone gets the buffs. You can put the engineer in the corner to sleep. Baird has some dps advantages, but Del is at a complete loss and let’s not involve the Architect.
The way it is, they have to play their role to be of full benefit. Now I am sure there is people that would like to sit around and watch TV while getting xp but I doubt that is the majority.
The gisht, these days it is absolutely feasible to not have an engineer while building, it is just advantageous to have one, very advantageous.(English spelling is hard ;))
It’s a compromise quite simple.

Yes you are absolutely right there. Sometimes I immediately quit the game (if I’m not hosting) that’s if the random engineer starts acting like a  i.e building sentrys first over a weapons locker.

Neither do I.
If I use MG, it’s at the back of the base to stop fliers.
I prefer shock, simply due to the stun effect.

Concerning this.
It would be nice, if the game could backfill quitters/Vote kicked people.
But with the daily rewards, that is a new can of worms.
Although, I would say if someone is willing to throw himself into the random grinder he deserves the daily rewards of the chosen difficulty, even if he was only there for the last 5 mobs of the last wave.
And of course people would find a way to exploit, whenever did that not happen.

Plenty of matches are won without an engineer

You have the option of creating a private game, this is how is should be and at launch the game was trash for horde because of that stupid crap of build restrictions.

If you don’t like people building that is why you host private games like GOW 4 people did, you do not support punishing everyone due to a small amount of bad players.

Horde’s trash set up at launch is why people incliding me stopped playing GOW 5 due to it being a big 3 steps back from GOW 4.

Horde is how it should be now and you have plenty of options to adapt, at launch there were no options for long time horde fans beside “play another game until they fix the broken judgement 2.0 inspired crap”.

Yeah I know that  but I rather win with one that knows their job.

This is why I think that Robotics Expert (Baird) is such a good example of how to better design Engineers. They can benefit the game quite a bit while simultaneously being able to actually play it via some DPS. I have the most fun engineering as this class.

The Architect (Kat) decoy is the best distraction ever, but yeah, this class really needs to have more added to it.

Jack has the Hijack stuff and the inherent heal beam and zapper stun are extremely helpful by themselves.

Mechanic (Del) though? I honestly think that this class is the most toxicly entitled to the economy due to how cheap it can get stuff. Too much like the Gears 4 Engineer and carries over most of the power economy problems. I suppose it has really tough defenses, can repair and tank fire simultaneously, and the new Enforcer card can actually melt when stack with Custom robotics.

IMO the game would be a lot better for Engineers if they could focus more on these other traits and buffs without having to literally buy the fortifications themselves.

The game lost most of the player base because of the stupid changes to horde mode, a minority of people liked it, most fans were pissed at the stupid changes and stopped playing the game.

Only now that horde mode has been corrected to be like GOW 4 are people coming back to the game.

Horde at launch was terrible, and most agree with me since we complained and went back to GOW 4 until the mode was corrected.

You can have a good engineer and be screwed over by one teammate, who manages to ruin the entire match for the entire team. Had one of those on Blood Drive just yesterday, where an incompetent Gunner built an MG sentry right at the start and proceeded to spend all the money everyone else deposited into either upgrading his sentry or building other ones. We lost at wave 12 because the engineer couldn’t rebuild and repair destroyed fortifications (e.g. lockers) in time before that moron spent it. Such behavior leads to everyone no longer depositing, which ends up doing nobody in the match any favors.
I support this freedom, but it goes both ways and I’ve generally seen matches without an engineer end up worse than ones with because fortifications just weren’t kept in shape.

I prefer to play with an engineer typically, I don’t want to spend time repairing with a repair tool as a Demolitions taking 5 minutes on a barrier. Also, I usually play custom to kick morons like that…but I only play master so most of the time people know better.

People should consider the idea of giving the engineer the power directly instead of putting it in the fab when someone is being stupid and building unnecessary nonsense as non-engineer when they are one.

Wow, and the engineer stayed in the game? If I am engineer in public game and someone starts building sentries in the beginning I’m off to find s different match immediately. I do spend more time than I’d wish looking for matches.

This is a good idea, I’ve seen people do it in some matches. Too bad the engineer seldom has time to stand still in between rounds, and everyone ends up running around meleeing air.

Still better than giving the power to someone wasting it on pointless stuff. Usually if I have someone meleeing at me, I end up stopping to look at them, which has resulted in them sharing power instead of giving it to a power waster if I was playing the engineer(which I’ve mostly done on Jingle Juvies for the class leveling). So eventually they’d learn to stop moving around if someone wants to share them power. Usually you would focus on fixing stuff that is more exposed or further out near the enemies anyway, then the safer stuff.
