People keep praising Gears 3's unlock system but

Onyx medal was not a joke and reward too

XMate I think you are being harsh-anybody could pick holes like you are doing. Gears of war 3 had a load of its own good maps and a load of good gears of war 2 maps. If you personally don’t like maps like azura and dry dock then that’s cool but I think you should understand why people like the map cycle on 3. I don’t get too beat up on map design as long as there is decent cover. I don’t like bunker and I think it’s one of the worst maps as it’s clearly an attempt to lessen gnasher gameplay. You said if I don’t know how bad gears 3 maps are lol stop trying to ram your opinion down other peoples throats. Everyone has their own opinion. I have played 1000s of games across the pvp in all the gears mp and Im entitled to an opinion so I don’t need you telling me I’m stupid for not knowing how flawed gears 3 maps are. I like how you deleted your post and just said ok-think b4 you write next time.

You can’t say a wrong thing about gears3 because it’s the best game of the series. And you’re wrong Season pass and DLC had it’s own weapon skins and characters.

Ok…

Gears of war 3 rules

I credit Gears 3 for planting the seed of my loathing of RNG reward systems, The initial Gears 3 unlock system was an atrocious RNG sink hole.

You were rewarded an RNG weapon skin after an increasing number of kills, but they gave out dupes.

They also tied achievements to winning matches whiled having select “gold” weapon skins equipped.
Eventually they removed the doling out of dupes… but the people that ground alot to try and get complete sets before the dupe removal have an insurmountable task to unlock skins because of the increasing number kills required to get the next reward.

I am still missing several weapon skins, including the gold lancer skin that is tied to the achievements, I need another 300k kills to unlock the weapon skins I am missing. No thanks.

That was initial exposure to a game that used RNG in its reward system and the beginning of my disdain of it.

That doesn’t sound like Gears 3 at all. I think you played a different game, because the Gears 3 I played at launch had no RNG unlocks whatsoever, and never did.

I looked up the achievements, You are correct.
It was Gears Judgement that had the RNG Gold Weapon achievements.
I completely blocked that game out of my head.

I guess that show the point of this thread… With time the good and bad all blend together.

You have to remember the Gears community overall is considered the most toxic in gaming. Aside from Judgment I’ve loved every single game in the series and never wanted them to go back to a previous entry in terms of functionality, until 4. The medals and unlock system in 3 were absolutely amazing, there’s nothing wrong with a grind (you sound like everything should be handed to you because you played it a few times), and 90% of the content was available to anyone who wanted it.

Another key feature that makes Gears 3 the best in my opinion, you earned progression in private bot matches. Granted you earned less than if you played online, but the game never punished you for enjoying it, something TC don’t seem to understand. If they add that one feature to 5, I’ll have absolutely nothing to complain about with the game and it will quite possibly become my favorite Gears game.

Edit. Post add nothing

Ok

All of this. You have to be careful who you even compliment Gears 5 gunplay to.

This is the most ignorant thing I’ve read since mein kampf.

If you agree say ok

Read snippets, you’re out of your god damn mind and you comparisons are ■■■■ and fail so ■■■■■■■ hard. Gears 4 lootboxes through my own gameplay are more rewarding than Gears 5

Ok

Gonna continue to praise it…

Ok but after reading what you said Gears 3’s unlock system is still 200% better?

Lol can’t change facts

GOW3 had some ridiculous unlock requirement like Prescott. I think it was to unlock the Silver All-Fathers medal, or complete 300 matches of each game type. To ulock Griffin you needed to earn $5,000,000 in Horde, which could mean 1000 waves of Horde. There was also a broken achievement/medal (the War Supporter where you participate in events) which unlocked the Golden Gear.

On the positive, GOW3 had a lot of unlockable characters with simple or doable requirement, and many DLC characters like Team Zeta, Onyx Guard, Bernie, etc. In my opinion, GOW4 unlocked more characters for free (with some luck of the draw)

I miss GOW3, and some maps like Azura, Academy and Thrashball. I loved the rolling match KOTH lobby, and I used to play GOW4 Competitive Warm-Up alot: drop in, smash some heads, drop out. Also Horde mode was great before they introduced classes and running around collecting power.

How do you earn scrap in Gears 5?

You get supply drops for playing. These give random unlocks. If you already have the unlock it selected for you, then you get scrap. 5 for a green, 20 for a blue, 150 for a purple, and 600 for a legendary.
