PC - Game crashes after every completed match

Nothing has changed on my PC as i’ve rarely been on the last few weeks.

Seems now every time i launch gears I can play 1 KOTH match and then when I click to continue and find another lobby the game will crash out.

Anyone else having similar?

This has been an issue for people recently, for myself included.

A few people reported much less crashing/solved by disabling overlays, another user reported the game wouldn’t crash while using his 4K 60hz monitor, but would crash while using 1440P 120hz monitor.

The common factor here is CPU usage. It spikes during the transition from matches or returning to main menu, or loading into escape/horde.

Anything you can do that will result in less CPU usage may help or solve your issue.

(Also please hit me up for TDM)

Also, give this a shot. It fixed my audio issues so it may help here too. Different problems but we all know Windows is unpredictable.

Or here’s the commands so you can copy and paste as you move on along.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Dism /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Dism /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase

net start w32time

chkdsk /f

press y than reboot and let scan

Yeah but why would I have to change anything if I didn’t change anything in the first place. I haven’t done anything to my system other than steam auto updating gears.

Which means they changed something.

My gpu drivers are still old, the Gears specific drivers from last year.

But I fail to see why the heck I should have to modify or do anything to have the game work as it did before they did whatever they did.

I play at 1080 ffs. 138 frames/144hz

Even on a clean PC reboot. Nothing running but discord. It locks up after a single match.

That’s totally unacceptable.

Do you remember my audio issues? Even after a full format the issues persisted.

The prompts themselves didn’t reset my PC. They cleaned it almost like a in-depth fragmentation cleaning. Others have had audio issues and used this method with success. That’s why I say it’s worth a shot because these issues were caused by Windows just like yours likely is.

I find this seems to happen a lot in FFA rolling lobbies.

It happened me since past year

I tought I solved raising soc voltage on BIOS of my Motherboard on PC, but recently the game sent me to Windows desktop, the Xbox Gamebar also crashes suddenly…
Is BS.

Why would windows cause this? I don’t have issues anywhere else on my PC and Windows hasn’t changed/updated.

I’ve literally not used my PC for about 2 weeks more than once or twice to print something out and play maybe 4 gears matches (the last 3 times needing restart of game after match. All separate times. All fresh PC reboots)

Should it actually be Windows somehow that affects one particular game on my system, I don’t find gears 5 worth my trouble to ‘fix’ if I’m being honest.

Has gears 5 just been slowly filling up the cracks of some secret CPU overfill reservoir this last year, like a worm virus, to the point it can now only handle 1 match before tanking the application?

what’s your GPU?

He has a 2070.

I don’t know man. The process I told you to try takes less than 15 minutes. It’s just cleaning up Windows and nothing else. You shouldn’t have to do it but like anything with technology random issues pop up without changing anything.

Remember, my issue didn’t affect every game either. Gears and Doom has issues but Halo and CoD didn’t.

No I mean beyond that. Like if it’s a windows compatibility issue all of a sudden, I’m not gonna hunt it down much further than what you suggested.

I understand. I’d try the above and go from there. I was an idiot and spent 30 hours finding a solution.

So far, turning off geforce experience replays, stream, etc has seemed to possibly resolve crashing.

I played a few escapes and Koth matches with no crash other than when I alt-entered out.
