LOL, it’s been so long, bit I kinda remember that. It is nearly a decade later though, it should be way beyond that. It’d be nice if the AI in general was just actually smarter, but AI in games is one of the slowest evolving aspects of gaming, which is sad. Someone needs to work on a good 3rd party AI add-on for UE4.
The deep learning/machine learning and neural network type of AI, if configured properly with the right constraints/settings for advanced AI behavior and logic could be so amazing. They’re using this more and more for network and other stuff now, like what they say they’re doing for matchmaking in Gears 5.
The Nvidia 20 series cards having stuff built in for deep learning is cool. It just needs to start being configured and used for gaming NPC AI. A dev team focused just on that could make a great 3rd party plugin/add-on for game engines.
Until then, it’d be nice to just get a basic AI that is at least acceptable for 2019 though.
