Operation 8 - Known Issues

Please review the below list of known issues following the release of Operation 8 on 3rd August 2021 and follow the recommended action.

If you have experienced an issue not listed below or already mentioned in a reply below, or the previous Operation issues thread.
Please reply with a brief summary of the issue (please keep it civil, review the Guidelines) with screenshot(s) or a video (may have to be a YouTube video link) and you should log a support ticket so the Devs can reproduce it and locate the cause, to (hopefully) be able to issue a fix in a future update.

Important to Note - Start of a new Operation

“Finally, ok before you start crying to me over the radio, remember the following common issues when launching a new Operation, it’ll take Jack time to adjust, so take it easy, they’ll be a few glitches, don’t panic and don’t break anymore of them!” - Baird

Frequent Issues

  • No new content. - [You didn’t read the communicate from command earlier did you? New content will be enabled at 11AM PT/7PM UTC/8PM UK private, hold your horses! After that time restart your interface if necessary.]

  • Missing Season 7 Ranked rewards - [If you have received partial rewards, keep restarting your game until you no longer receive any more. Season finishes at 7PM UTC so nothin’ happens before then private, even then if you’re in the best of the best, you’ll get your just rewards later this week, command has them enroute.]

  • It’s not uncommon for there to be spikes in load on the system as many COGs reestablish at the start of an Operation, this may present itself as anyone or more of but not limited to the following:

    • Missing Character skin cards.
    • Server Allocation failed.
    • Cards are un-assigned on all classes. - [Manually re-equip your skill cards for each class]
    • Card slots are all locked/greyed out/missing and can’t be equipped.
    • All cards are missing, locked or reverted to Level 1 with minimal or no duplicates.
    • Horde matches acting odd, no Ultimate, Ultimates not behaving normally, no energy at the start of the wave to put in the fabricator.
      [This is usually a short term server load issue, restarting the game or Xbox once servers have settled will see them return normally. ]
  • Not receiving post-match results. - [Likely server load at the time, rewards will have been added but not visible, restarting game may help]

  • Long matchmaking times - [Gears will be downloading and installing the update, leading to a quiet battlefield until a few platoons are up and running again]

  • Don’t see the new achievements in the Xbox guide - [If you don’t see all the new achievements, open “All Achievements” and go to Gears 5, it will then display all the new ones in the Guide overlay then.]

List of Issues

Store

  • Operation 8 Bundle purchases not unlocking content in-game but currency taken - [Restart game, if that doesn’t work don’t try to buy again, wait for 24 hours to see if it appears in-game, then if not log a ticket at https://support.gearsofwar.com and be patient, sorry for the inconvenience.]
  • Heroic Baird missing from the Character Skins section, Heroic tab. - Being re-added next week.
  • Operation Bundles display 30 Days of Boost using the Boost image for 100 Days of Boost, this could be confusing.

Cosmetic

  • Armed & Dangerous Executions for Boltok and Talon, labelled as Starter locked and not purchasable still.
  • Gears 2 Curbstomp Executions for the Lancer and Gnasher, labelled as Starter locked and not purchasable.
  • Relic Weapons have name displayed vertically instead of horizontally hyphenated on their cards in the customization screen.

General

  • Level 0 and Tour not loading - Resolved :heavy_check_mark: (Operation 8: Account issues)
  • In-game chat still not working for some. - [Potential temp fix/workaround courtesy of @Imstifu - In-text Chat [Solution - Highly worked - Op 8]]
  • Steam updates issues with downloading, installing, not completing, reverting to a 50GB reinstall/update. - Resolved :heavy_check_mark:
  • Tour - Medals not tracking:
    • Goon (Get 5 or more Kills without dying in a Versus Match) - [Requires getting a “The Quint” ribbon to complete this medal]
    • Bully (Survive 25 Waves of Horde and/or Acts of Escape on Inconceivable Difficulty or Higher) - [Not working in Horde Frenzy]
    • Event Champion - Resolved :heavy_check_mark:
    • Event Victories - Resolved :heavy_check_mark:
  • Tour - Escape page, the Hivebusters Survive 10 Acts of Escape as Lahni, Keegan or Mac medal has a picture of Hoffman. - Resolved :heavy_check_mark:
  • Tour - Guille Assault Set in Tour for Corporal II awards The Path Set instead. - Resolved :heavy_check_mark: [Those who passed Corporal II should find Ghillie Assault set in their inventory now]
  • Achievements not tracking progress for some players:
    • Total Annihilation
    • Event Planner (Wins in “New Map Rumble” were not counting). - Resolved :heavy_check_mark: [Vampiric FFA and Shotty Snipers wins are counting, you may need to do all 10 again.] (Weekly Event achievement bugged)
  • Audio issues persist (Enemies, Bosses, Active-reload sounds).
  • Alternate Control Scheme - You can roll on alternate by pressing A, hop over covers by pressing X
  • Stats in-game and server are unavailable currently. Achievements progress not tracking. - Resolved :heavy_check_mark: (server catching up with past data during outage)
  • Ritual - Boomshot shooting over some covers results in self-kill.
  • Re-Up 55 has the same level XP requirement as Re-Up 54.- Resolved :heavy_check_mark:
  • Menu - Extras, State of the Universe appears in Spanish (“Estado Del Universo”) instead of English with the rest of the UI.
  • Post Match Results - Displays a white box placeholder for progress towards Escape tour medal, the Hivebusters Survive 10 Acts of Escape as Lahni, Keegan or Mac
  • Allfathers map, between boomshot spawn and centre of map (grenades spawn), unable to mantle up the middle of the cover. Example

Versus

  • Missing Top rewards. - [Those are going out manually later this week.]
  • QuickPlay ‘Classic’ playlists voting screens are stuck on the previous mode as the only choice.
  • Daily Objectives still not counting in Custom Versus
    • Win a 2v2 Gnashers Versus Match
    • Complete a Free-For-All Versus Match
  • Daily Objective for Damage in Versus has gone back to 70,000 Damage amount.
  • Custom Versus - Swap All Weapons lobby option missing Relic EMBAR from the list
  • Custom Versus - Kills with the Relic Gnasher show the Enforcer symbol in the kill feed.
  • Quickplay - CTF, doesn’t allow respawn and you can’t score with flag. Players can stand in the endzone with the flag and it won’t countdown. (TBC)
  • UI - Top 1000 Modal and sound effect announcing eligibility for Top 1000 rewards continues appearing after every match once in the Top 1000, once when meeting the threshold would be sufficient, as becomes an annoyance. (TBC)

PvE

  • Players will no longer have an invisible weapon when revived in specific circumstances in PvE - is still an issue.
  • Aim assist against deebees on intermediate, experienced and advanced veers off.(Example)

Horde

  • Atrium does not have the Relic Weapons in a 1-50, but does on a Horde Frenzy(1-12).
  • Ritual progress for medals and achievements not counting. (TBC)
  • AI Bots lag out of Horde (Example)
  • Custom Horde Lobby filter, searching for classic or other event gametypes it will return no results unless you have the box for regular horde or frenzy checked as well.
  • Jack character icon in-game on scoreboard is a white square if using Factory Jack or Halo: Reach Noble Team Jack, possibly other variations.
  • Weapons sometimes do no damage and have a bottomless clip of infinite ammo, possibly when the Must Active Reload modifier is enabled for this to occur.
  • Bosses will survive with no health for an extra period:
    • Wakaatu with no health will bury underground and rise up one more time when it should have perished. (Example)
    • Matriarch with no health will jump to another area of the map when she should have perished.
  • Enemies aggressively target the player and ignore any AI player bots. Some enemies alter direction mid jump to target the player, such as Pouncers and Leeches.
  • Ritual - Sound is increasingly distorted as the game goes on.
  • When rebuilding the fabricator after being destroyed, remains red and not actually rebuild. - TBC
  • COG tags unable to be picked up, preventing teammate revival until the start of the next wave, a long standing occasional issue.
  • Horde Mania in custom displays “time until wave starts” message and plays the countdown audio cue despite mania skipping breaks inbetween waves.

Escape

  • Using mouse and keyboard (PC?), at the start of a hive out of a pod, mouse pointer still on screen for a few seconds preventing directing movement with WASD keys. is still an issue.
  • Lobby Browser - Escape Filter option is still missing The Mist and The Split from list of Maps (Hives?). - Resolved :heavy_check_mark:
  • Hive issues including spawns not working properly on following hives:
    • The Gatekeepers, first act, secondary enemies do not spawn, second act is fine.
    • The Mist, missing scions.
    • Hunters, missing various spawns.
    • The Wanderer, Act 2 Mulcher Scion appears slower than before.
    • The Link, Act 2 half-way through the Warden doesn’t always spawn and no spawn of enemies when pressing the helipad door.
    • Melee Brawl, Act 2, raising the bridge does not spawn enemies, and no spawn of enemies when pressing the helipad door.
    • The Barracks, Act 1, Juvie and Grenadier to the left of the first drawbridge no longer spawn.
    • The Choke, Act 1, heading upstairs, either left or right are usually enemies such as Juvies, Hunters and/or Snipers but not currently.
  • The Trap, final door before the Safe room is missing, presumably to fix a previous issue of players getting trapped, however originally the Trap hive had a door here, closed by default, that could be opened and closed at will. This provided much needed cover from the Stumps and enemies before the safe room, allowing safe access down the drop down to a nearby supply room. Players wish this to be the case again.
  • “Get MVP x times in any mode” Daily Tour Objective not counting in Escape.
  • Red Explosive Ammo boxes do not refill Lancer GL grenades.
  • Tactician’s Resupply does not resupply Tri-Shot or Mulcher ammo.

Operation 8 Title Update Patch Notes

PVP:

  • The Gnasher will no longer have brighter muzzle flashes on the 2 v 2 Allfather Arena map.
  • Players will now receive appropriate penalties for continuing to disband Competitive lobbies.
  • We’ve removing the ability to see the PC Icon in Public lobbies across Gears 5, this icon will stay in for Custom matches to help maintain esports integrity.
  • We’ve added an option to add a delay to the expression wheel appearing, this can be toggled from instantly to 5 seconds which should help prevent accidental openings of the wheel while in combat.
  • You can now toggle off the option to “Yank” a player over cover, sometimes a player will accidentally try to yank while trying to revive a DBNO player against cover which will help prevent this issue from occurring.
  • A confirmation prompt has been added to the restart round option in custom matches.
  • Addressed an issue that resulted in Hivebuster Mac not displaying a blue team shader when viewed from distance.
  • We have updated the Scoreboard to provide more meaningful stats across the board for viewers and players.
    • Execution/Warzone: Kill/Death/Assist, Damage Done, First Bloods, Revives.
    • KOTH/Control: Kill/Death/Assist, Damage Done, OBJ Kills (any player you kill inside the objective.), Caps/Breaks.
    • TDM/Dodgeball: Kill/Death/Assist, Damage Done, Kill Streak (this is your current kill streak but will reset at the end of each round or if you die.), Revives.
    • Guardian: Kill/Death/Assist, Damage Done, Leader Kills, Revives.
    • Escalation: Kill/Death/Assist, Damage Done, Kill Streak, Caps/Breaks.
    • Gridiron/Capture the Flag: Kill/Death/Assist, Damage Done, Touchdowns, Denials.
  • We’ve made the following changes to competitive mode scoring:
    • Players who are playing solo will now get a 25% boost to their score at the end of a competitive match (up from 15%)
    • Players will now receive 5,000 points for a victory in all team-based competitive modes.
  • A voiceline is no longer played when killing an ally held by a meatshield.

PVE:

  • Players will no longer have an invisible weapon when revived in specific circumstances in PvE.
  • The Relic Weapons have now been moved into the “minimal” Gears 5 install; this addresses an issue with users crashing when loading Atrium.
  • An exploit which allowed players to force all enemies to spawn in a specific location in Turbine has been fixed.
  • Abyss no longer appears twice in the Horde Frenzy stats section.
  • An issue with a door on the Trap Hive has now been addressed.
  • Hoffman will now correctly call out a Warden when he marks it.
  • Flame Grenadiers and Palace Guards will no longer fire their weapons while feared.
  • Players will no longer continue to take damage from the poison puddles mutator at the end of a Horde wave.
  • Lambent enemies will now have an outline when a Marksman uses their X-Ray ability.
  • Rebuilding the Fabricator will now correctly cost 4,000 power.
  • Sires will now move when targeting a Decoy.

OTHER:

  • The Embar is now centralised in the weapon’s customization screen.
  • To address a crash, players are now unable to use Jack’s abilities while in a vehicle in the Campaign.
  • A specific cover has had its collision heightened in Training Grounds to prevent you jumping over it.
  • The Chalkboard skin has now been restored to the correct version.
  • The Made you Flinch expression now uses the correct Card image.
  • Hivebuster Mac’s ponytail should no longer behave oddly.
  • A Level of Detail issue on the door inside the Cafe on Ephyra has now been addressed.
  • An issue that resulted in the chatbox not working for some users has been addressed.

This is still a issue. Just played Horde Frenzy on the new map as BM and my shotgun disappeared.
@SCG_Grond had the same issue.

Can you grab a screenshot or video (better) and link?
Also, just double check your game/client version? (Home screen on Xbox, or can find in My Games & apps, manage the game and it has the file version).

So the issue with the aim assist against deebees on intermediate, experienced and advanced is still present. So it’s a bug where if you try to headshot deebees on these difficulties, the shots will gravitate towards the upper chest instead of going for the head. Disabling aim assist “fixes” this, but then it becomes much harder to aim in general with other guns, particularly those with high recoil. I only tested this on advanced, but since this problem has been around since at least mid April, I’m assuming it’s the same problem.

The top two videos in the link should show this. The first one I just made today (8/3/2021) showing the problem on Advanced. The next one made on 6/29/2021 is on Elite, which shows that the aim assist behaves a lot more consistently and has no problems. Compare the two and the issue should be clear. The video was made today, so it’s proof that the issue is current.

I’ve been bringing this up for a while now, so I don’t expect this to get addressed, but the issue is still there.

When voting on quickplay it displays the same game mode name but different icons

Not sure if this happens only when the game is in Spanish

I had the same issue, rewarded the Path Assault set from the previous tour in its place.

Here’s what I’m talking about when I say voting is glitched…

Also, I can’t select the curb stomp for the Lancer or Gnasher despite it being listed as starter.

Post it here too but the sound on the new map for horde is appalling!

This has happened 2 out of 3 runs on this map.
