Official Feedback thread for Developer Playlist - Nov 17th, 2020

The fast hyperactive makes the game less fun for me. To easy to just slide around the whole time.

This tuning addresses pretty much every issue I had with the ranged weapons in gears 5, especially the hammerburst. The lancer should be more of a support weapon rather than a killing weapon at long range, which this tuning does. This also helps mitigate spawn trapping. The slightly slower and weightier movement helps with the crazy wrap around shots where it feels you die before someone even is looking at you or clears cover. I say put it in the main game.

Just replying for my vote to be counted (if TC actually takes this into account at all)

Not a fan of the movement being this slow, at all. Feels like a deliberate attempt to appease players with poor mechanics.

So, yet again just one games worth and I’m done for the night, Up A’s must be a thing of the past cause the delay of shots is just hilarious, and the gears 2 movement is atrocious. How u expect anyone to wanna use fast timed wall bouncing , strafing and reaction shots when your taking elements away from the game THAT MADE THE GAME!

For one, the gnasher is so unbalanced its baffling… qp or ranked it dont matter. We all just want an actual game that has CONSISTENTCY. Bring back Op 4 tuning and Op 2 speed and you’d actually have a gears game again.

Also can we get some classic game types back like Execution, Wingman, Annex , Capture the Leader.
How about some old characters Jace, Valera(Even tho her and Kait same voice actor) Griffin, Sofia, Barrick, Hunter, Miner, (and yes golden variations). You have all this content from gears 1-4 yet you dont utilize what you have. (Cough Cough Black steel characters we wasted our money on and cant play them in Gears 5).

I kinda feel at this point gears operations are like the game Snakes and Ladders, Sometimes you get a good roll of the dice and get to a good position on the board but then the Coalition likes to snake its way and drag us further down.

Thats my Spill

with some limitations, YES
the rxn shot is literally a pawn going towards a direction while shooting to the opposite
and it’s exactly what people don’t like paired with shooting from the back while hyperbouncing
it’s not hard to grasp this concept
people wants CONSISTENCY and to be able to react to stuff
most deaths in gears are from bullets coming out where they’re not supposed to

then you love to try and steer the conversation from its actual topic
you talk about pubs, personal performance, how people play ranked like it’s up to you to decide how people should play based on YOUR actual preference
all we’re asking is for this game to be consistent as much as possible to avoid confusion that eventually drives players away from the pvp multiplayer aspect

that’s why no one wants to play single life execution game mode
because these just don’t work in 2020 but for some reasons there’s a vocal minority asking for something that always led to stalemates
I don’t know if you play other games beside gears but you should be aware that most successful titles out there have something to prevent camping to force players into battles

still you don’t decide if a player is not supposed to play a ranked match like it’s an esports final
everyone plays this game as he likes

at first i thought these changes would have been aweful but the movement changes are exactly what i want in the game, i thought it was going to be overall slower but it has the exact opposite effect for wallbouncing. gnasher works greater than usual for some reason, so all and all this is great tuning and hope for them to bring it into the rest of the game asap.

i was quick to judge thinking the beta tuning was going to ruin gears but it totally works great.

I haven’t talked on here in a long time… but I’d like to give my verdict on the entire playlist and all negatives/positives the game has.

Pros:

  • The game feels right at home with the original series in this tuning (Such as cover slide speed)
  • Aggressive play can be punished by simply walking off cover.
  • Nerfs have been made to Vaulting and lancer damage.
  • Using LT is even more viable then before (Including cover fire).
  • Old maps like Gridlock or Clocktower now feel fun again.
  • The scorcher can no longer be rushed (This means there is a con to it).
  • Gameplay reintroduces Roadie strafe and Wall bouncing is now faster.

Cons:

  • Player movement has been slowed down (Speed Andys won’t like it & so will normal players).
  • Players can longer rush the scorcher and lancers are obsolete on solo firing them.
  • Running away from explosives is more challenging (I have no say if it’s good or not.)
  • Blind firing feels unresponsive due to the delay (Which might get complained about and turn people away).
  • Snipers feels much easier to fire (Which means easy headshots now).

Overall i think there are something’s TC should look into with this playlist. It was nice to play, but not very friendly to different play styles.

Notes: I think TC should try next Beta playlist to balance out the complaints and fix a few (Namely troublesome issues)… Aside from that, i hope to see more Classic reloads, Gnasher headshots return (no gibs, just pop), bring Perfect reload bonuses to the lancer alongside nerfing the gnasher to allow the same thing and lastly… bring back our glorious mug “Hold Y to Execute/Poi and Press Y to Curbstomp”.

That’s all i gotta talk about and so on, good luck TC!

Don’t change the tuning. Slowing down the game has always been a huge complaint. Stop doing it

I swear if half these changes get implemented, I’ll stop playing. Do not nerf the lancer (again) and do not slow the game down. Stop.

Really? Its as stiff as crap. I had to turn my setting all the way up to 30 just to feel like I was somewhat moving. Running was quicksand bad.

I don’t want to have to take 5 minutes to run across a map to a hill. Thats not having to think about your movements. Thats they are giving you enough time to think about your life goals.

You can feel it. It’s heavier. These things add up. This is a game of seconds not minutes. One pellet off and your dead. One step beyond and you miss.

Gears wasn’t a chess game unless you played single life mods

I like the slower movement but slide speed is still too high and up-A’s are still way too good.

Honestly I just wish TC wasn’t afraid to actually gut wall bouncing because they’ll never actually be able to properly balance the game when players can circumvent so many of the mechanics because of it.

After playing the BETA tuning for almost 8 hours and then switching back to the standard tuning I have to say the BETA tuning gets a lot of things wrong

It is a massive step backwards. It’s not 2006/2008 anymore stop trying to regress the game.

After putting 8-9 plus hours in the new tuning. I can say this is the best I’ve seen gears in a very long time. We are talking yearsssss.

It’s not slow it’s well paced. It’s time to step back and realize we have been playing the advanced warfare of gears for far too long.

The delays to the air back make the game make sense more times than not now. you can see what the opponents intentions are now complemented by the slip speed change.

The game is much more understandable . Way less wtf why did he slide into my cover Moments . I can see ppl thinking mid fight and that is what gears has been missing. I hope they continue to make improvements to this game.

Ps Jimbob you crazy S.O.B your doing it your fixing gears

Firmly disagree, it makes it unbearably slow, laggy, and fights are too predictable.

It rewards camping, abuse of aim assist, and bot walking. It now plays more like CoD than it ever has before.

I have to ask since you brought up something that it seems every wall bouncer / faster moment supporter complains about bot walking. I have never and I mean never struggled killing someone who choose not to hit their A button and just walked me down. That to me tells me .That People who have a problem fighting bot walkers don’t stand a snowballs chance in hell of beating me in a fight and I bounce more than half of the community.

I think ppl aren’t getting away with murder anymore and don’t like it . Make them miss time your bounce Up a them between their shots it’s really not hard.

I’ll even give you a example on how to play

If their sitting on a wall. Waiting for you to slide at the wall their at. Slide at that wall immediately cancel your slide hard aim them as the pop up to so you hit them with a brick than bounce wide and chip them out. Their 75- 90 percent And you can take a shot because you not hurt unless you chip or hit less than half your spreed you win Text book gears.

I’m happy to see 4v4, i think it fits very well the movement and playstyle of the game. However the movements feels extremely restrictive and doesn’t fit gears 5 at all. The right thing to do in my opinion is not try to emulate an older type of gameplay that was a result of limited resources. I think gears 5 would benefit from similiar mechanics from gears 4.

Yep correct. The slow movement might’ve worked before but it just doesn’t feel any good on gears 5 & it’ll probably dwindle the fan base even more if it’s introduced permanently, same as 4v4 - maps clearly aren’t even designed for it as some are huge and everyone feels lost.

Do you know what I’d do to sort out the movement? Absolutely nothing, how’s about leaving it alone. It’s not overly fast and still fairly snappy of which makes gears, gears, no pop shot delays none of that crap, fast paced fun to pass the time, bodying people and getting bodied.

All they’ve done is slow this game down from launch and mess with the weapons…and they wonder why people are leaving for good,

Oh boy. I have only played this tuning when it was unintentionally added into ranked KOTH. And I gotta tell you, it felt NOT good at all. I had no fun playing the game and after a couple games I stopped playing and thought Gears 5 would be done for good finally. A few hours later I read on twitter that the movement was added to ranked KOTH only by mistake and it was not meant to be.

I was soooo glad and went back to Gears 5, Operation 5 and it felt awesome again, like it used to be in Op 4. I am a fan of fast phased gameplay, of gameplay on new engines and quick reactions. This dev tuning feels so heavy and stiff. The rodie run speed is way too slow, bouncing is extremely slow when you start the bounce and overall aswell, bot walking is the way to go with this movement and imo your main fan base does not want that.

I also discussed with a few friends of mine, none of them like the movement. All heavy oldschool Gears players, masters and good gnasher players which know how to have good movement in Gears.

Personally I have been playing every single Gears of War game. And from my perspective…are we back in 2008?? I mean ye Gears 1 and 2 had slow movement because the engine could not handle/support a faster phased gameplay maybe. But come on, when Gears 3 was released the movement felt, how can I say it, free, fast, without barriers. Thats what I felt in Gears 4 and 5 aswell, and still feel in Gears 5(normal tuning). AND I LOVE IT!

My point is: Do not add the developer tuning into the main game, leave the movement and the weapons as they are atm. Your game feels great and I love to play it. The Operation 5 update is a succes in my opinion and the new maps(Nexus and Regency) are feeling amazing. I am not quite sure what to think of the 4v4 yet but maybe I will get used to it.

I hope I could give some good feedback to you. I have not posted on the forums for a long time. Cya online.
