I just played a few matches and I really like these changes. The lancer was still viable, I was able to down players on my own who were trying to move into cover. It feels much better to me!
I was also able to bounce quickly, evading and bodying still very effective.
One thing I noticed is shooting off cover. When in cover I’d love to be able to pull off a reaction shot where you kind of bounce out of cover and shoot quickly, like a back A. It seems unresponsive to me. I’d be interested to understand from TC how delays work in this game. Can we just remove delays?
I played the dev playlist again and… yeah its classic gears, but honestly way too noob friendly, I was walking like a bot just hard aiming and still getting a lot of kills. Easier to land shoots, evade is still to slow hence useless, snub is stronger than the lancer and once you get a power weapon its basically free kills, not really rewarding since you barely have to try. Gets boring real quick
If your excuse for this is to “decrease the skill gap” I honestly dont see it, good players will still own and stomp new players, specially if its someone that gets used real quick to the changes. Considering its waaay easier to land shots now.
I dont wanna imagine how awful its gonna be escaping the trishot in reclaimed with these settings
Can someone please fill me in on what the hell is going
On? The dev playlist changes were accidentally incorporated into regular ranked and quick play?
Or are people just speculating because it feels slower or some placebo thing going on?
So, the weapon tuning is good, the movement is horrible. That’s the quickest I can sum it up.
I really fail to see how the game being slow makes it “tactical”
All it does is reward players with poor mechanics and slow reaction times, you are effectively nerfing aggressive players in this game and turning it more and more into a botwalk/camp fest.
I’ll be frank, the ONLY thing Gears has to differentiate itself and stand out among other third person shooters is the unique movement mechanics, taking it away turns the game into a generic title with no life. When Gears first launched, the cover mechanics and everything about the game were unique, that is not the case anymore. If I want to play a game where all I do is sit on a wall and hard aim, I can find several better games to play. This would be akin to removing strafe jumps or rocket boosts in Quake because new players have trouble keeping up.
I just played the new “blitz” tuning beta again to know if giving another chance to the movement that was implanted into this and the truth is that the move is horrible and added to the kfth 4 vs 4 game mode, which used to be one of the most frantic modes, makes it feel boring and slow, I think it would take a step back from the movement we have in the game , I prefer the current move which is very good so I hope you don’t add those changes to the new beta thanks for operation 5 and all its content
If I type in all caps does my opinion matter more? you people can still wall bounce very effectively if your smart and actually know how to wall bounce like it used to be. All I hear is how the new games ruined gears from this forum and when they change game speed back like the old ones there’s still ■■■■■■■■. Make up your mind. All this did was add more ways to kill people and less hyper bounce nonsense. A bunch of babies I swear. I hope they continue to ignore this forum and keep making the game back to being fun and exciting. If you actually think this is bot walklng now you’re a joke and was never good at the movement in the first place
Change the weapons all you want, nerf every ranged and power weapon into the ground for all I care, but please for the love of everything don’t make these movement changes from the beta tuning a permanent feature in the game. The game feels slow and unresponsive and I feel limited in my play style because not being able to outplay through movement has reduced the game to just strafing and landing shots which is very boring in my opinion.
On the bright side I do enjoy the ranked koth playlist being adjusted to 4v4
I have never given my opinion on a forum (or even visited them until now) I’m not even good at putting my opinions down in an easy to read and grammatically correct way but the beta tuning changes have made the game near unplayable for me as far as movement goes and I feel like I HAVE to speak up even if it changes nothing.
I have already given my thoughts elsewhere but for the sake of putting it in the right place. (I already know some people agree and some people disagree).
I am happy to see the extra weight in the characters, even with the Op4 change that slowed sliding to 600uu, things still felt very light. This adjustment to acceleration feels perfect and slows things down without actually making wall bouncing pointless. I love wall bouncing but I feel like this change makes the A press feel like a slide button, rather than a teleport button.
I have seen many people for months complaining “Fix the Back A” “Fix the wraparound”. Firstly I agree that the Air Back A can be problematic if you’re against somebody who is good and can land it accurately as it becomes quite easy to do. As for the wraparound (RXN), get a grip complaining about that, it only ever catches you out if you’re corner camping so a “fix” to that is stop corner camping. I feel like we’re moving away from assisting noobie / unskilled techniques so don’t remove a mechanic that will help people camp, that’d be 100 steps backwards.
Essentially I’m saying that the reduced movement speed in terms of slide acceleration, roadie run… It feels very good, the delays totally do NOT feel good at all, as much as I agree that the Air Back A is annoying, adding a delay after cancelling breaks the game in other areas where you’re unable to shoot whilst wall bouncing. The entire tuning would be PERFECT if not for the delays, the delays would wreck the game.
I know that people like to assume I’m a “Gnasher Elitist”, that I “Can’t push Lancers”, that I “Don’t know how to play tactically”, that I just “want to bounce around without thinking”. For those players, I am about to say that the dmg nerf to the Lancer is a bad thing that will make it too weak. I would like to see it’s rate of fire slightly reduced instead, so that it brings it in line with previous Gears games again. As it stands now it’s too easy to land the required amount of shots on the target due to how fast it fires, whilst that remains easy it’ll continue to feel too powerful regardless of how many dmg nerfs it gets.
Weapon swap speed, I am happy to see this slowed down.
Overall it’s an amazing tuning but has 1 factor that destroys it, please don’t use this version of the tuning.
the RXN and all the camera shots should definitely go if we’re talking about skill.
to use your level of engagement to the subject, if you find hard hard to deal against someone who’s in cover (in a cover based shooter) the fix is simple, don’t attack who’s cover camping as the game already provides plenty of tech to deal against those
they may not ‘feel’ (which is subjective) good but they’re necessary to counter slide canceling in general
main gripe with gears battles is the fact that a pawn is able to both wallbounce and shoot (while also abusing camera shots) with the less possible amount of distinction between the 2 actions.
I’m going to use an example from your very own clips:
say that you were engaged in a battle here
what were you trying to achieve?move away from the opponent to get a clear shot at them?strafe from their bullets then proceed to attack on your own?
no, you are trying to achieve both and simultaneously which eventually might have resulted in shots coming out of your pawn’s ■■■.
this is to some extent similar to being able to wallbounce between exhibit’s lasers
gears literally feel like playing pinball, shots, kills and deaths happening out of nowhere
a more clean and understandable gunplay would be beneficial to not drive people away in horror
and this does not mean to cater to noobs in any way but literally everyone is hating crack bouncing beside a few youtubers here and there
My issue is not with people who are in cover in a cover based shooter, my issue are the people who stand behind walls, not in cover. I explained this in detail on this other thread that you have already seen.
Based on your suggestion, I shouldn’t push them camping. I use this example the most because it’s the clearest way I can. Let’s imagine we’re playing 2v2 on Mid, somebody is camped on the corner of a pillar. How do I push that if this delay breaks the RXN shot? I can’t, it’ll stalemate.
No it isn’t, I remember not so long ago I wanted to make a point, I got MVP without even using my A button, just bot walking everywhere. A good player can predict what the opponent is going to do and THAT is and should be counter to a wall bouncer, the counter shouldn’t be limiting the opponent so that you have enough thinking time.
As to the tweet of mine you’ve linked, I wouldn’t expect to achieve anything there, I was literally trying to see how limiting the change was, I was showing that you literally can not fire at all whilst bouncing.
People like to assume that I have no idea what I am doing, that I just spam A. I don’t, I think about every single slide and I do feel there’s a skill to it. So the Tweet you linked is meaningless, but I move and shoot like this.
I feel there’s a skill to that, the counter to it is not missing me, I’m not mashing A and there’s clear thought about where I am moving to. Just because some people can’t land shots on me, why should a change be added to punish me? If I outthink and outpace somebody then I should win. I shouldn’t be hindered to help Little Jimmy who can’t react.
That video just looks like nonsense to anyone being killed. That’s why the game is dying no one wants to deal with being shot from someone that isn’t even looking at them on their screen. And it wasn’t a thing until gears 4. You can still do most of what’s in that video with the tiny delay they added. Or you can not depend and the jank movement solely to get kills and use it to get better position to then aim and shoot
I feel like this would be the more accurate comment for you to say. Nobody likes dying in a game and generally, people who can’t bounce very well hate it because others kill them a lot by doing it.
Just because people don’t like dying, it doesn’t mean that should be removed from the game so that you don’t die anymore.
That’s not my problem though, on MY screen I was looking at them. On MY screen I did the correct inputs at the correct times. On MY screen I outplayed them. If I were against me in that clip and I could see me moving around like that, there’s not a SINGLE 1 of those kills that I would have not understood had I died to it, most of it wasn’t even that fast. I use wall bouncing to get around the map and the fact there’s no delay now just keeps everything fluid.
(Please see this video from Gears 3)
Also RXN shots existed before Gears 4, again please see
You’re right I can, but now with a delay there’s a high chance that part way through it my Gnasher would lock up and get me killed. You can see I don’t rely on having a 0 second delay, you’ve just basically said so yourself. I don’t want to see a factor come into it that may or may not allow my Gnasher to fire.
still, bassed on your suggestion your ONLY solution to deal with that situation would be for a character to be able to move forward from cover, his gun in a completely other direction but still shooting towards the correct one because of the camera positioning while also moving away from a possible line of sight from the enemy?
I’m sorry but I will always call bs on this thing
either the pawn follows the direction it’s shooting or not
this would be the only solution that allows CONSISTENCY for both attacker and defender
but I’m sure they can find a better tool to deal with this
boasting on your performance in a clip, a specific match doesn’t give weight to your statements, well not against me at least
it’s not a matter of you being mvp or a good player, a good one would find other ways to deal with situations instead of clinging to a broken tool which is only pissing people off from this game
please tell me where I ever said (and we quote each other quite a lot) that you mindlessly mash A or have no strategy behind your gameplan.
still I’m talking about inconsistency due to pawn movement and camera yet you post a clip against complete noobs that approached you in a horrible way pretending to be right?those guys literally came running at you, didn’t even fire a single shot or took cover to get some advantage over your position
whateve, I don’t want to talk about clips
you fail your arguments because you think bringing personal performance into the mix has some kind of meaning.
watching any of the RXN shots clips around (which I also use as well as crack boucing as long as it’s the meta) the feeling is horrible and it’s the one where shots are coming out of positions they aren’t supposed to
if a position is non contestable, why would you push?would you also push from the open into someone lancering you?
and this is a good thing to have in the game
you either wallcancel or you shoot, can’t do both
I’ll reply to your comments and then I’m done with this post because it’s evident it’s a waste of time.
Sometimes, yes it is the only option because of how weird people play now. Is it a shame? Yes it is. Otherwise people just walk around and around and around and around and around the cover like we’re having a quick game of Ring Around the Roses.
I hear this a lot so I want to say something. Based on this, you’d be TOTALLY fine with the RXN shot if it still performed exactly as it does now but the player model reflected that. So surely the shot itself is fine, that’s an animation issue surely?
Have you seen a mouse player who has a very high DPI? If they spin, their screen displays what they should be seeing, to anyone spectating they’re not actually turning in circles, they’re going side to side. That’s the exact same issue as what you’re highlighting in terms of a shot coming from where they’re not facing from another player’s perspective. I don’t see anyone moan about that though, why? Because they’re not dying to it. I admit this is a silly example but it’s true! This isn’t a shot issue, it’s an animation issue.
Please believe me that stating that I got MVP by bot walking was FAR from bragging, it’s more something to be ashamed about. As for the clip, yeah I was happy with it but it also shows exactly what I was trying to show. People complain about that kind of thing and because they don’t like bouncing, they jump on the bandwagon of wanting certain mechanics “fixed” (broken).
YOU haven’t, I actually said this. It’s a general statement.
I feel like you’re misunderstanding the reason for the post. If I were trying to brag about personal perfomance then I wouldn’t post my clip to a Forum, I used it as an example to show how I play in terms of my movement, when I bounce, when I strafe etc.
Because were talking about Ranked here, it’s PUBLIC. We’re not in an eSports final with $100,000 on the line, it’s public play. I’d push because public is meant to be a chill experience and I don’t want to spend my entire time sat looking at a wall whilst the timer counts down towards the stalemate.
As for your Lancer question, I wouldn’t run head down at it but yes I would try and find a way to push it for the same reason I just explained.
People play ranked weird now, there’s no grand prize for winning.
Incorrect, I CAN do both but some people don’t want me to be able to.
