Official Feedback thread for Developer Playlist - Cover slide speed has been reduced from 650 to 600
Thank you guys for releasing this developer playlist! This recent update you guys put out on Tuesday is phenomenal I love how slow you slide into cover. With this being in the game it’ll shotgun fight to feel more like “Gears” this is going to make a lot of players think when to slide during fights. Not only playing but from people at home watching with the slide speed being slowed down it allows viewers to see what’s going on which is going to help the game grow. This is a HUGE step in the right direction and I hope you guys finalize this movement for operation 4 thank you guys!
Got ya. It sounded like you were disappointed with the movement in 4, and I’m of the opinion that a return to Gears 4 movement with 5’s other mechanics (other than the melee) would make a solid experience. The video I linked shows a lot of examples of how players don’t have to commit to anything, and why it makes for a poor experience for a more “average player” than a pro like yourself.
Hey, thank you for posting what has been adjusted. I could feel something was off. I liked it better before, but I will try to determine if that is because I preferred the speed or if it was because it was a mechanic I have grown accustomed to. I did notice that I was getting my UP-A’s countered a lot more. Which sucks when you are determining your move based on that result from the past. I will say that regardless of why I prefer the previous, it was something that was good and was a large part of my arsenal .
So far, I don’t dislike it, but there are some knock-on issues… Lancer fire, for one. It’s still difficult to dodge even with no aim adhesion and the 650 slide speed. Would be nice to see Lancer damage nerfed just a touch more and I think it’d be in the perfect spot and the slower slide speed would be a no-brainer for me.
I need more time with it to say for sure, but at least during the few matches I played, it definitely felt better to me. What I like about the general idea (of slowing the pace down) is that it makes you think more about what you’re doing. I’m the type of player who gets my multikills with 2 or 3 properly-timed wall cancels, not 50, and that’s how I think it should be. I’m just worried about how this will play with other balancing currently in the game.
after playing about 10 matches the playlist plays pretty much exactly like regular, I do notice the slightly slower cover slide but honestly its such a minute change that I suspect if they were to implement it that regular folks wouldn’t notice it, whereas top level players definitely will. Wallbouncing seems very much alive and well, I think how this effects top level play is what really matters.
Wait… so people use wallbouncing as a way to express themselves?
I guess i gotta stop doing that if people are getting religious out there.
-Bring back the OG Gnasher!
The problem with LT magnetism is i have aim assist off but most ppl don’t and when your 0laying against them that when you get done with trailing shots.
You may be right with the speed slowed down and the magnetism toned down a little that it may help
I’m just going to leave the thread alone now until i try the dev playlist because i don’t want to find myself flooding the thread with ideas/thoughts on stuff that TC may have in the pipe line so I’ll try the playlist then try ranked for stuff that’s already been tweaked to compare then come back with my verdict.
The slide speed being slowed is definitely a step in the right direction for gears to become a more individually skill based game again in my opinion. I feel this way people can actually see what is happening on their screens where as before people would shoot before hitting the cover for up a’s or over the cover fights. All in all I really like the change to the slide speed.
it would be a good choice to finally remove bulletmagnetizm NOW when strafe speed is slowed down. it just makes sense
Lol the movement speed is the same, you just have to time your wall bounces and not just start wall bouncing like a sped and hope to hit a shot
The slide speed into cover needed to get slow down so people can’t just be getting away with just spamming reaction shots or up As!
Not a fan. I’ll rather have it faster. Or just leave current movement alone.
Just use gears 4 settings and get on with it .
Every month this game changes drastically catering to people moaning about something to have it in their favour on how they play . Then update it again to cater for another set of players moaning about something else . I’m sick of adapting constantly it’s making the game not enjoyable. We had this for years during gears 4 where you got the game near perfect then you bring gears 5 out and all that hard work on 4 just got chucked out the window
Game finally like gears game right now random gnasher fights and call of duty feeling has gone for me enjoyed yesterday gib range could be lower imo but its ok
I already tried it, the movement feels very good and added with the elimination of the active ones it is perfect, another thing that you should review is the default control method since the game feels very clumsy compared to the alternative classic control method.
I agree.
I respect you guys trying to tune and test with the beta playlist but hopefully the slide speed stays the same. I believe everyone should try it out for a few days before criticizing the tuning. Lets not flood the forums with biased and ignorant opinions. I truly wanna see this game succeed and I feel players have the ability to bring gears back to its glory.

I’d say that a lot of people have been wanting the slide speed to decrease for a while now. It forces you to be smarter with when you decide to use the slide, rather than up A’ing out of every situation. You have to decide how to approach the fight. This will actaully add more life to gnasher fights and reward the smarter, more skilled player. This slower slide also is more appealing as a viewer and for new players. They have a better understanding of what is happening. So, imo, increasing the skill gap while also improving the games appeal which allows growth, it’s a win/win.
And speaking about reaction shots, you actually have more time to be precise with where you want to aim/adjust your reaction shot with this slower speed. But, as I said above, you now have to be smarter with your choices of when/where to perform this. Give it some testing in the playlist and you’ll see what I mean.
