Official Feedback thread for Developer Playlist - adhesion and active reload changes

Played the Devs List a few times with likes and dislikes.

Like:
Love the reload where it is and no actives. I have never liked actives.

Dislike:
It feels like it’s turning into a gears 4 all gnasher. The lancer even tho I don’t like actives seems way too weak. I had multiple times a player charging me and with me unloading the lancer on them it would not down them.

Aim Assist:
I play with aim assist off so no adapting there but def think the adhesion has to go.

I thought the lancer seemed nerfed enough and most of the new maps were basically built around the lancer and map control through lancer… people have learned to play this way and changing this now seems like a mistake.
It was bad enough when the radius of the lancer fire was made to bounce all over the screen…

I noticed it looked like the Zoomed Gnasher (hard aim) and hip firing seemed to be the exact same blast radius and shot pattern (is that what we want)?? Feels like the gnasher shots are too weak per pellet and overall just too tight. A larger radius with more power seems like how I remember gears being in the past. Gnasher feels too much like a long barrel

I noticed no difference with seeming magnetism. Players still appear to be able to shoot AROUND or THROUGH cover after I’m already taking cover to get kills. Especially higher ping enemies, I take cover then half second later die from shots.

Also why even have the active if it gives no bonus at all??? As it stands, gnasher reload at least gave full clip instead of half clip. Plus the entire reload seems so rushed, might as well just not even try to active reload. Gonna give a full clip and no chance of mistake with less than 1sec of difference. I’m saying active NEEDS to do SOMETHING.

The main problems with this game still seem to revolve around hit detection, magnetism (even without aim assist), and some type of lag compensation. Every round of the game feels different from the last, and this is insane and needs to be fixed. I play consistently only because gears has been a part of my life so long its hard to let go!! Any other game I would have abandoned week 1.

The game is good but need to improve. In shotgun accuracy. Shooting down at the ground & the air is not fair & true dedicated server would be nice

I’ve spent hundreds of hours playing ranked KOTH, just because I’m “used” to people constantly camping and unloading fat clips of lancer fire into me doesn’t make it any less annoying, one could argue that the value of making any sort of significant changes this far from launch (9 months post launch) is sure to meet backlash as all the fans are used to how the games plays now, but I am of the believe that this is just more in line with what Gears 5 should’ve been at launch, so instead of whining about it being “too little too late” I’m a “this is awesome” type fan.

Also the game only has 2 “new” maps, Allfathers is generally percieved as a great map, whereas Pahanu is pretty much shaping up to be one of the most hated/unpopular maps in GOW history (I made a thread about this btw, in case you might be interested) and you can definitely tell why (one is lancer dominant, other isn’t)

I also want to ask (or expect) people who are commenting how many matches/games have you played of the playlist? The reason this is important is that biases are reduced the more one plays, and its easier to grasp how it plays on a general level, not to say first impressions are bad, but I value opinions of someone who’s poured hundreds of hours into something much more than someone who’s only spent like a few minutes.

When I first tried using the lancer in the playlist it was pretty jarring, I had grown so accustomed to the aim assist and how easily it made using the lancer that I honestly couldn’t do too much with it the first few games I played, but over time I kind of got used to it and had much more success. When you are crossing across the map it doesn’t make an enormous difference except for the active removal, the reason being that aim assist with the lancer is only there at mid range anyway so you kinda just use it as usual, but when you are crossing people mid range its really noticeable, the mid ring on District plays fairly different because its much harder hitting enemies within the hill, so I definitely think you can still excel with the lancer you just gotta “get gud” as it were, none of that handholding garbage. Must be hard for scrubs who can’t aim :joy:

Shotgun feels a little better. Would like to see a damage reduction still.

I like the active reload change a lot.

A nice step in the right direction!

I actually remember, not too many players be chopping it up in global chat unless it’s to talk S*** lol. Hopefully TC will implement this tuning into rank before op4.

Hey Coalition I like playing with single stick movement on but the one thing that I find a bit annoying is that when I turn it on… every couple of seconds my screen gets centered could you guys have a option to turn that on or off!

I have just seen somebody on Twitter complaining that the Active Lancer is required due to the fact that a regular Lancer is unable to down somebody whilst they are pickup up a power weapon.

I have proved his point to be totally false in this video here

It shows that without Actives and bodyshots only so that it’s at it’s lowest possible DPS, you have enough time to down a player who is animation locked whilst picking up a power weapon. This isn’t even taking into account the time it would take for the player to run to the weapon spawn and then get away again, I gave the benefit of the doubt and only timed the animation lock to give this person’s theory the best possible chance of having a valid point.

Please view that video and see for yourself.

I was then informed by this user that ping needs to be a factor, I am not understanding this when we’re discussing a player who is animation locked in the same position for 1.435 seconds, for ping to be a factor it would need to be 1435ms ping or greater.

I know everyone is entitled to an opinion and that’s what feedback is, but please people, give feedback that is supported by logic and if tests are conducted, please be able to show everyone how you reached your conclusions.

played like 5 sweaty 2v2 matches, that was probably the funnest experience I’ve had in GOW5 in quite a while, had to quit for ‘reasons’ (Bunker, need I say more? :joy: ) I’m still seeing tons of lancering even in a 2v2 so I doubt it has as much to do with the lancer itself being weak but moreso players simply not being as good with it. Everybody was constantly trying to find weakspots in each other, the lancer was good as a way of ‘baiting’ opponents or punishing them for being out in the open, but you couldn’t just run into the frey with a lancer without them pushing you, overall the more I play it the more natural it feels, I just see it as more like what GOW5 should’ve been to begin with.

I also can’t stress enough how much this changes other weapons in the game too, Claw, Lancer GL, etc. are all more difficult to use, so I wonder if it’ll also (on a general level) make pickup weapons less powerful because the skill gap would (presumably) be a bit higher now.

The experience with this playlist is gonna vary tremendously per person, the reason being that on one game you can have a really intense competitive match, the other you’re playing against bots or people that picked up the game a week ago, so its pretty damn random from a player’s perspective, I can’t get a good sense of how the changes play unless I’m playing against good opponents and likewise if my team is demolishing them it just feels like I’m ‘spoiling’ it for others, I remember the first day I played it I was in a 3 stack and we were just absolutely destroying every match, one dude on the enemy team was whining constantly, must’ve been hard for that dude (may you rip)

I kinda wanted to wait a while to post my thoughts but damn them were some fun matches, couldn’t contain myself :yum:

While I do agree with the whole developer caring and not caring statement I didnt buy this game in September to wait and wait almost a year for the game to be enjoyable. TC had a good product at the end of Gears 4 to start from scratch with Gears 5. Also TC likes to talk and Im getting tired of waiting for what they said to happen. How hard is it to release Level 6 for PvE characters? How hard is it to change the requirements for Ally XP? How long is it gonna take to implement this new quitters penalty system the keep bringing up? This is just a few things, you know theres more to that list.

At the end of the day Ryan and Rod might have dug a hole Jamie and the rest of TC might not be able to dig out of.

This is a joke !
Everyone giving an opinion on your development list does not specify the resources they use : Xbox or PC? PC configuration? controller or keyboard / mouse? …
How can you get a point of view / opinion on the comments returned?

Not disagreeing with you. At the end of the day we can’t change the past we can only move forward and hope for the best.

At least the mistakes have been acknowledged and changes are happening.

Hi @Surly_McGruff and @mjrdecision

FIrst of all thanks for opening a space for feedback and thank you for the effort for reaching out to the community.

I would like to give you some feedback on the developers playlist first:

  1. The rate of fire of the lancer would be nice to increase a little bit, I think it would make it more fun and highly dynamic, it doesnt have to have the faster rate of fire of the freedom lancer ( lancer gl ) , but something in between that would really help.

  2. the active reload is perfect its like gears of war 3 , thanks for that… Please pass on this change to all modes… it really rocks.

  3. the gnasher its magnificent , couldn’t be happier. My friend @jmelia123 had a blast also… playing Developers Playlist felt like we were like in the movie " SAVING PRIVATE RYAN" … magnificent gameplay !

That’s for the " Developers Playlist" now for overall game suggestions here’s a word for that :

  1. Please make more maps and it if it’s possible a horde map editor, I would support the game more if those features would be added in .

  2. The fabricator still doesn’t allow us to buy any weapon regardless of class or hero… please allow everyone to buy his weapon of choice.

  3. Enemy Variety, we’re always killing the same robots and monsters I think It would be a breath of fresh air if new monsters could be added in into horde… way more fun .

Once again in the case that this could involve a price for it , I’m more than willing to pay… as long as the game feels fresh and more entertaining.

Thanks in advance.

You realize that them putting tons of resources (time, effort, manhours, that sort of thing) into one thing (ie horde) it just takes away from another? a horde map editor not only would probably take far longer than a versus map, but I also wonder how popular it would be (the escape map making/sharing thing didn’t seem very promising)

All that being said I think the potential for horde is definitely there, they could bring back classic locust, which would be tricky because they would have to spend a good amount of time making a bunch of models from GOW1-GOWJ, but the good thing is that alot of stuff was done in 4 both due to campaign and characters, it would make zero sense for them to make this unless they were to charge for it as a DLC of some kind (think GOW3 horde command pack but actually good)

Honestly Im just tired of waiting at this point and Im tired of the talk from TC. @mjrdecision said on a dev stream WEEKS ago that they’re gonna be more active on here and what have we gotten so far? 2 post from him. 1 creating this thread and the 2nd something we could have read on “Whats Up” nothing actually interacting with us.

It’s been frustrating for sure. I hope they turn the corner with Op 4.

Hope is all we have at this point. I just hope Op 4 isnt as underwhelming as previous Ops IMO

I would like TC to consider the competitive warm up weapon balance from gears 4. The gnasher had a much smaller range and it allowed for more than one shot and two shot gnasher battles. Plus, if the gnasher gets weaker like that it allows for some other weapons to follow suit. As it stands weapons do too much damage in gears 5. It’s like the gnasher is so OP so that it can finally be considered consistent, but the downside of this is all of the other weapons are too OP to try to match the gnasher damage in some way.

I don’t really care about the faster reload. Gears 5 played a different pace which was kind of nice. They are just making it more classic now with the faster reload. The lancer is able to shoot more shots faster this way too, so it’s not a complete nerf as far as i am concerned. I am against anymore OP lancers (and op pick up weapons. Like feel free to get rid the claw in ranked MP).

Also, i find the aiming and shooting in this game strange. I’ll literally have two opponents in point blank range. All i can see is their characters on my screen, yet somehow when I shoot, the shot misses or goes through them. Also at times i will back A but the shot does not come out, my character just does a quick aim. I just worry there are some issues here that need to be uncovered more.

how many games would you estimate you’ve played of it? I probably play about 5 matches a day on average, just curious.

I think the playlist is hard to play match after match as its constantly changing due to player turnover (one match is super sweaty then next is a pillowfight) and so its like a really weird arcade match where you might see some of the best players in the game (I’ve seen multiple Master KOTH players in there btw) or you can see complete novices that couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.

Suggestion: Why not host tournaments with these settings? or at least allow us (the community in general) to run these in customs (so we could have fairer matchups)? I can’t freaking tell how good the settings are because I’m fighting such a wide array of skill levels in this playlist, surely that hurts the results (impressions, feedback, etc.) tremendously right?

Liking the new changes, definitely a step in the right direction. One thing I would like to suggest is scraping the Eliminations system. There was nothing wrong with the kills/assists system IMO, and it feels alot more rewarding.
