Official Feedback thread for Developer Playlist - adhesion and active reload changes

It is definitely better especially with less aim assist and normal game pace(not running like headless chicken). 8 bullet Gnasher is confirmed for OP4 so i am also glad to hear that. Game just keeps feeling like Gears game again. This brings the question, why didn’t we started Gears 5 like this ? If we will get 3-4 good maps for Series X launch and considering we will get a Series X patch , Gears 5 population may spike again with new console users and current ones together and game may be alive till Gears 6 for Series X.
But the most important message from me about gameplay tuning: I don’t know who is making this tuning but please make sure he is doing the tuning for Gears 6 because this is the best version of Gears 5 up until now and feels like a Gears game. Definitely going to play more of this, thank you.

The Developer playlist is 90-95% perfect, roll this out across all game modes IMMEDIATELY! Feels like Gears should do!! A joy to use, if you want to keep the original community happy this is the way to go!

So will this just end up on ranked playlists? If it is I’m fine with the changes. If not with the nerf to lancer I will just take it on the chin and not bother with any versus modes. The vocal community wins again and any form accessibility for new players is gone. 90 odd percentage of kills with one game is just boring to me but fair enough if that’s your thing.

Considering Halo Infinite will be a launch title for Series X Gears will probably be hurt moreso than helped in terms of population, that being said I’m sure TC will do something as that would definitely sell the game a bit better.

I hope you can understand that I don’t want to turn this feedback thread into being a thread that’s all about me and my opinions but as you’ve tagged me, I don’t like to ignore you.

I want to try and answer because I want you and other people to maybe understand where my feedback is coming from but I am going to try and keep it on topic of the thread. You are right, I am a PC player now but that’s only been quite a recent change. I gave my Xbox to a family member for her children to play with in February, up until that point I would alternate between Xbox and PC to play Gears 4 & 5.

I am showing these here because I have had people saying the same to me on social media too so i’d just like to clarify. I attempted to play on K&M and I looked like a bot, I can’t do it. This is from a recent tutorial I made, this is how I play, I use controller on PC.

When TC added the option to manually turn off Aim Assist on my end, I did so. Since then it’s only been enabled again for testing things.

I don’t know if this will give you any further information but these are the settings that I use. I aim by myself, If I screw up then I screw up by myself, If I do something well then I do it myself. I don’t like the idea of the game helping me, I just don’t want to feel like I am being punished because the game helps somebody else whilst I am trying to play fairly and use skill.

Most (not all) of my friends who I play with are on Xbox, when I search I find that the majority of players who I am playing against are Xbox users as our player pool feels like it’s so small! When I find PC players, I don’t know if they’re K&M or controller users. Just the same as neither of us can tell from the lobby screen if our opponent has manually disabled Aim Assist which I could use on it’s own to entirely counter what you said (i’m not actually arguing, i’m just giving an example).

Honestly I have seen Aim Assist in all it’s glory, In terms of the skill difference, this is the first season whereby I attempted to get a proper rank in a gametype, I got Masters. It’s another topic but I don’t consider any ranked placement for public to be an achievement but I know that I played against some of the better public players in order to do that.

As much as Aim Assist was a problem in ranked, I actually found it to be at it’s worst in the recent OSOK event where you could quite clearly see that you were playing against newer players who were landing shots that experienced players would potentially find difficult. I promise you that I have seen the impact it had.

I only want to answer that in so much detail because I don’t want you or anyone to think that just because I switched to PC 4 months ago that I have suddenly not experienced it. I experience it even on PC all the time.

As for the Gnasher, it’s a whole other topic haha but despite what people think, I don’t want a Gnasher only Gears. Things like Gnasher only KOTH I find to be very boring. I want a Gears that does have a functional Lancer, I don’t want a Gears that’s Lancer dominant like we have now.

I appreciate the tag and I like that you agree with some of the things I try to push for, whilst I won’t ignore anyone if they tag me on here, I really don’t want this thread to become all about my opinions and I am very conscious of spamming it, especially now I have added pictures but I did so so that people can see that the feedback I am giving isn’t coming from a biased place that doesn’t fully understand the issue, It might be biased towards my ideals and the ideals based from feedback I have personally received, I do still fully understand the issue. Lots of people don’t know this, as much as I am against the Lancer being too powerful and I seem like I am all about the Gnasher, my Gears 4 beta feedback all that time ago said something along the lines of

  • “Gnasher is a bit too strong, reduce the range”

  • “The Lancer is a bit too weak, it’s not fair on those players”

I tried to find the thread but I can’t, but I feel like that’s an important factor to my feedback, I am not trying to make Gears Gnashers only, I want it to be FAIR!

No the lancer is NOT strong in the dev. Playlist and esp. NOT hella strong.
But funny you mention Gears1 lancer as a comparsion which kinda fits… Both kinda weak iterations of the lancer and i never heard people thought it was strong in Gears1 tbh.
And now it should be also clear i was not talking about the lancer when i mentioned the “most versatile Gears of War” loadout weapon… :wink:

The Lancer is the exact same in the developer playlist except it no longer has the Active Damage boost.

The issue that you are facing is that the game is no longer aiming for you, you are expected to do this by yourself.

The weapon deals the same damage regardless of range if you can be accurate.

The weapon can down in

Headshots - 0.9 seconds
Bodyshots - 1.1 seconds.

No there is no joke from me.

Hi all ,i d like just to say thanks ,to the new man on coalition ,i trayed the list dev ,i enjoyed so much, the mouvement, the wall bounces ,the gnasher, the end of aim assist ,wow !! Now it feel really a great gear of war ,i don t now about net code …but anyway now gear bécame a real compétitive game ,a serious game !!! I hope other veteran likes the new direction ,first time ,it feel better than gear 4 now !!!now bounces mean something in a fight !!! Great job !!! Great thanks !!! 9 mounths waiting a light get on !!! Thanks ,we can see some light ,…after that if the game stay with old settings.(aim ■■■…,gnasher,slow mouv…)…i will go back to 4 ,…anyway i am so gratefull thanks J.

No aim assist but crossplay , and this playlist is full of pc players, a lot of disavantatges., and playing against 100-200 ping players teleporting they sponge all the shoots but they they are gods killing u in 2 shoots…something s wrong, what can i try? The red remains forever if u r not a walker. No scope with the gnasher has a brutal magnetism. Movement is too slow. Hard aim is not consistent.

I’m agree with Hellion, There is no sense make a playlist without aim assis and let PC players get in. Yesterday I was playing with a friend and the most of the players in the session were from PC… also the most of them were laggy as ■■■■. This game will never be great till PC players have so much advantages (more fps, more fov, too much camera’s sensitivity with mouse, macros for wall bouncing) at least you guys from tc could do that a controller is required even in PC, Come on dudes… is a third person shooter.

Just so y’all know, the new playlist still has aim assist enabled. Only adhesion has been removed. Adhesion is what pulls the crosshair independent of your actual input. It was totally new to Gears in Gears 5. No previous Gears game had it, but every Gears game had stick and magnetism; both of which are still present in this new beta playlist.

Removal of aim adhesion and the increased reload speeds on starting weapons have made the beta playlist the best feeling playlist in the game.

I don’t have strong feelings on the active damage boosts either way. I’m fine with (within reason) or without them. But I absolutely hated the slow as ■■■ perfect active bars.

What we need now is this new aim assist tuning to be game-wide. All versus, horde, escape, and campaign modes and difficulties. Absolutely no exceptions of any kind. Control consistency across the entire game is paramount, and the sooner TC realizes this, the sooner Gears 5 can really start to turn things around.

I should rephrase. While I got annoyed when someone took my kill, I would get angry messages if I took someone else kill.

Now I don’t ever get annoyed cuz I get an elimination. And I have yet to get any angry messages for “kill stealing”

I don’t think it looks silly. If you assisted or get the kill yourself you get credit for it via an elimination.

It is not the aiming i have a problem with but the missing active damage boost which was an important feature of the Gears 5 lancer and if it’ taken away it’s damage is weak in generell that “burst fire” is an absolute no go that’s why i thought you were joking but it seems not…

I tried to play the playlist but kept getting smashed by what I can only assume are stacked squads of hardcore players. I have never been a fan of any active damage boosts for any weapons, but if the lancer has lost its active - and it was already a pathetic pea shooter before hand - then surely it will be next to useless now?

Anyone that has played a decent amount of the playlist, what is your view on the power/balance of the lancer now?

I personally want Hammerburst and Enforcer to come back as starting loadouts but I doubt we will be so lucky.

Is the gnasher in the developer playlist the same as in comp?

I love this new features. Feels great.
The only thing I say is that I prefer a little damage boost with the perfect reload.

TC, you have outdone yourself with the new dev playlist. I have really enjoyed it. Let me first say it’s hard as heck, only because I use aim assist because you really have to, you have no choice when others use it in the ranked lobbies.But I hate aim assist. The new dev list plays a lot like gow4 which is great. On Gow4 it felt good getting kills because you outplayed someone, on 5 it sucks getting killed by a person who you know you’re better than. But I really hope before July 14 you guys add this to the op4. With aim assist off and active damage gone I can deal with a 40 clip lancer. The only thing that needs fixing is the way it’s so easy to grab a wall while bouncing. The game will flourish once the gears 4 crowd finds out about the new dev list
