Official Feedback thread for Developer Playlist - adhesion and active reload changes

Kill theft still affects you, though. You don’t get as big of a point chunk if you dont finish them. Maybe one time doesnt matter, but 30 kill “secures” later, you’re missing out on maybe 1500 points? I only want someone to take my kill if they know I cant get to it, otherwise they better be focusing on the other players still up, not wasting time on a player not relevant at that moment. I’ve seen games lost because someone shot a downed person instead of the players still standing, and it’s that rat mentality that frustrates people. It comes down to common sense, and people putting more thought into their play.

Really loving the movement! Feels SO much better and wallbouncing is fun again. Hopefully these changes in movement will be added to the game.

It’s some ■■■■■■■■ ■■■ lag in half the matches I’ve had since trying this playlist like everything from my enemies teleporting from right in front of me to my snub pistol shooting 1 bullet every 2 seconds when im tapping it as fast as I can I can’t tell if it’s bugs and glitches or just horrible lag the amount of ■■■■ I’ve seen on this game in the pass few days I’ve been back on is mind boggling sometimes I wonder how this is an official game I genuinely think it’s fan made that’s how ■■■■■■ it gets I stopped playing a couple months ago I was hopeful that when I come back I would like the game again but I’m still not convinced unless they fix whatevers causing this horrendous experience

That’s what I was recommending. How about we do away with the stupid long gun jams altogether. We need more people to complain about this before they think about changing this. I’ve hated this mechanic since Gears 1, and I’m nice with it. It should just be a fast reload with a small window of opportunity to hit for an active. If you hit the active: you get a small damage boost. If you miss or don’t try at all, nothing should happen. The reload mechanic is not only one of the most annoying things about gears, but I think that it’s alienating people from wanting to play the game.

Speak for yourself! I’ve been complaining about it since gears 1. The whole long gun jam mechanic should go away as well. Give us a small window to hit the active reload for damage boost, but don’t punish the player for not trying or missing the active.

Really enjoy the beta with no adhesion, it is stellar.

Also was curious about the hive rewards from last week, no one seems to have recieved them and also there is no hive escape this week? When can we expect to recieve our rewards or to see the next hive escape?

Thanks

Active reloads are a skill, if you miss it and jam your gun is exactly what should happen. It is a staple in gears and one of the unique things about it. They need to return to how the original series gameplay used to be like. Not this new style they are trying to push. Gears of War isnt suppose to feel like every other main stream game. It is suppose to fight the curve and stand out from the rest. #savetheactive

Playlist feels great please don’t increase gib range added gib range argument saw people in twitch chat

Your opinion noted but I don’t think it’s very popular. Jamming ur gun is Supposed to feel like oh shot I’m dead. So don’t really get ur problem with it. Maybe Just don’t miss ur reload.

Taking away active reload buff with the lancer is a HORRIBLE idea. Absolutely horrible. If they decide to bring this change to the base game, I’m out.

the active made little difference with the lancer in the first place, like it would give a slightly faster (.1 second faster to be more specific) down but that’s simply not the most impactful of active out there.

Some people (old time fans in particular) love actives as they see it as a way to increase skill gap even further, but I (and many others) despise it because it just makes each encounter an unlevel playing field where whether or not you hit actives is what determines success not as much about hitting shots, just an annoying mechanic to tend with.

The lancer is still probably a bit OP even with the removal of Adhesion/active, but at least now it’ll be a bit harder for people to hit me so makes movement a bit better. I find Gears 5 to be a borefest mainly because lancers are so strong they sort of encourage people just camping and hiding the whole match, a bit too overwhelming currently.

Shotgun campers exist. It’s on par with lancer campers. It’s a camping problem. Not a weapon problem. Tons of games, just about every game you’ll ever play will in some sort have camping players. This isn’t an argument for removing buff. But I do agree with you. Who wouldn’t? Camping is annoying!

well typically you’ll maybe see one person camping behind a wall with a shotgun, nevermind the fact that they are still pretty much at risk of dying when they do this, whereas with lancers entire teams do it. Lancers pretty much reward people for being bad at the game and not moving in my eyes, why waste time learning to Wallbounce or optimize your movement when instead you can just learn where to sit and lancer people?

The removal of Adhesion will probably lead to (I’m making guesses here) lots of people that held high ranks all of a suddenly having difficulty as they can no longer just be hand holded when they’re lancering, but I still very much see it being strong as sugar in the hands of someone with thumbs.

Eh, it’s okay. I’m seriously throwing a hissy fit over it, I will admit that. I feel very strongly that this is a bad move. but this game’s identity is gone and so is it’s player base…long time coming. I will not be playing this game anymore. Had it with TC when they took out the Hammerburst., and this just destroyed any Hope I have for the future of this series. All uniqueness gets thrown out the window for some cry babies that can’t handle using their brain to not rush the guy holding a freakin rifle at you.

Tldr: removal of adhesion and making the active reload skillful = awesome. REMOVING buff = a bigger shift in direction I’m not okay with. 2 steps forward 3 steps back. Done and done.

I’ve been hearing that Gears lost its identity ever since GOW3 (less dark aesthetics, wall cancelling, loadout weapons, TDM, microtransactions, etc.) but I beg to differ in this regard, Gears is Gears due to a collection of different things working in tandem, not because of any singular element or mechanic that it may boast certain ones over others depending on game or situation.

If actives are a core part of GOW’s identity its a small one, yes its cool and all but I hardly doubt that people play Gears just because it has actives, its a small feature in a big world known as Gears.

I think Gears has lost its identity (in my eyes) long ago, Gears 1 to 2 was pretty much the same, Gears 3 was a huge shift due to lambant and the brighter aesthetics and how different it “felt”. GOW4 right from the getgo is a much different experience because the cast of characters is different and so too is the setting and the enemies and etc. Gears 5 definitely feels like a continuation of GOW4 so if you consider GOW4 a Gears game that sorta tells me what you think of GOW5, but it does have a couple of minute differences that make it stand out (expressions, escape, combat knife, little stuff here and there)

If I had any one thing that Gears 5 could bring back from previous Gears it would definitely be the maps, my oh my has Gears went downhill in terms of map design, not just in terms of how interesting maps used to play (Tyro Station, Hail, Flood, Avalanche, etc.) but the way they look is awful now (they seem to just make everything look bland, I bet that GOW5’s gridlock will still look much worse than GOW3’s did, just as an example)

I know I kinda rambled a bit but my point was that actives were never that relevant to Gears in the first place (nevermind that its still on all non loadout weapons) and that if TC changes them for the sake of balance/consistency then that should be the only reason.

In short, the response to these changes have been overwhelmingly positive. Effective next Tuesday, June 30th, we’re rolling out this new tuning as standard across all Versus modes. Note: The adhesion changes won’t impact our competitive esports mode, Escalation but the new active reload will be added.

Just thought I’d mention this as its definitely relevant to this discussion.

I was kinda hoping they’d not do anything with Arcade/Quickplay but as I don’t play that personally it doesn’t effect me too much, feels bad for newbies

I agree the lag and high pingers are out of control! I shoot today and it lands tomorrow. How is a game created to benefit high pingers? They can make this game to perfect tuning but with this being the only game benefiting high pingers it won’t matter.

@mjrdecision

Well said. Appreciate it. So Latency needs to be fixed. High ping players shouldn’t be favored then TC. Just make Gears feel like Gears again. Awarding. Competitive but fun. Slow the game down. Make it feel more realistic like Epic Games intended for a third person shooter. Speed boosts should be taken out. A cover based system was implemented for a reason. Not bouncing off walls to gain a speed boost. Why change something that was built to make Gears an Amazing title? The Gib range should be brought closer in. I shouldn’t be able to body a player a whole football stadium away.

@mjrdecision now you’ve announced the update coming in all playlists starting next week will you be continuing this thread or starting a new thread for us to give new suggestions as of if/when we want things adding or taking away for example the bullet magnetism or friction?

Thanks for listening to the community too :+1:t2:

Anyone still play gears of war 3?? I think I might go back to that. Haha
