Nvidia new driver makes gears 5 crash and not work

I have they’re ignoring the fact the game is broken, I posted It with videos showing the crashes: Game freezes and crashes on PC version
For those who says you didn’t have problems, congratulations, but It doesn’t mean that the problem doesn’t exist. As I wrote on my post, Only this game and Gears of War 4 has this kind of issues, other games I own runs fine, without BSOD, freezes or crashes, and I got a lot of games like CS GO, The Witcher 2 and 33, GTA V, Metro 2033 redux and last light redux, Crysis 1 - 3 including Warhead, Battlefield 4 and 1, Star Wars Battlefront, Alan Wake, Wolfenstein The New Order,The Old Blood and II The New Colossus, DOOM 2016, Shadow Warrior 1 and 2, Spec Ops the Line, Sniper Elite 2, and the list continues. None of them crashes or freezes or causes me BSOD, only Gears of War 4 and Gears 5.
What a coincidence not? And ironically the franchise I love more is unplayabale on PC.

I now get a crash where all video is lost on entering the menu or entering the campaign. The only recovery is hard power-off. In event viewer I see Error 4101 “Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.”. its seems its when the GFX is being set up or mode being changed.

GPU is Nvidia 1080Ti

In event viewer I also see a very large group of Error 51 entries around the crash concerning a disk error for a drive number that doesnt physically exist - I understand UWP games involve the use of VDS virtual disks.

The main problem is the GPU driver. I don’t know what to do, they’re not responding. I opened event viewer but I don’t know how to detect the errors or what I need to see.

I tried this and it worked for me if using an nvidia card.

Go to the GeForce app
Make sure your home we’re all the game show up
Put the mouse course over gears 5 click details
Click on the wrench sign (custom settings)
Change the resolution to 1280x720
Optimize for battery all the way down
And change all settings to medium
Click play for GeForce app

My friend has crashing on his 1080ti with the latest drivers so he was using the August 27th driver. He was getting above 60fps without issue in both campaign and PvP until the latest update for Gears 5 came out. All of a sudden he’s dropping below 30fps in all modes.

He installed the newest drivers and so far he hasn’t had a crash and his FPS has skyrocketed. Hopefully these positive results will continue to hold but only time will tell.

There is also this thread GW502 Error - Main thread?

If ur haveing issues with nvidia new driver go to nvidia and download the 436.15 from August 27th 2019 drive is the only one that is super stable the 436.30 makes 1080 ti crash And act funny like errors etc…

How doni revert to a past driver?

Ez bro just go to nvidia get the 436.15 driver and is a exe just install easy if u have changes in nvidia control panel then u will need to put ur settings how u had them that’s only if u made any specific changes to ur likeing also ppl turn on g sync on ur monitor and then in nvidia control panel u will see g sync option free sync works with g sync so turn it on

Shouldn’t have to roll back drivers when this is THE only game that has issue with it. I am not going to roll back drivers for gears 5 only for the roll back to cause issues with games that work just fine with the Sept 10th update. The fact that we have heard no word about any upcoming patches or changes is beyond frustrating.

I’m using a GTX 1080 FE.

Since the September 10 driver, Gears 5 has had periodic crashes. It also introduced significant artifacts in cut scenes in the form of what I can best describe as white highlights around the characters’ heads whenever they move. Often these white highlights appear very aliased and are clearly unintentional. It is very distracting.

Rolling back to the previous driver introduces major stuttering in both cut scenes and in game play.

Otherwise the game has been playable, just frustrating on account of the broken cut scenes.

I bought the game (bad idea but I really wanted the game on PC, steam version BTW), and got BSOD after playing a few minutes

MS and TC ignoring the issues, at least Nvidia replied me a few days ago.

TC must be aware of this problem and work together with Nvidia to fix It.
Also on Xbox One the game suddenly closes Itself, so I’m not the problem or my PC, the game is broken, no matter if I play It on PC or Xbox One.
MS/TC you MUST ADDRESS THIS ISSUE, STOP IGNORING THAT. I’m re-up 4 and I want to play with my friends, but with the crashes, freezes, BSOD, and also connection issues, etc, I can’t enjoy It plenty. Instead of stay here writting my complains and be frustrated, I would like to be just playing this damn game.
And I used the most recent drivers, BIOS Motherboard, Windows, and bla bla bla. Rolling back to the 436.15 Nvidia driver also doesn’t work. It sutters a lot and crashes and freezes too. I’m pissed off. The same kind of issues like Gears of War 4 that you never fixed It.

bro they never fixed the issues in gears 4 even after 2 years, PC players will never see the end of it with gears 5 either.

hi guys , i had same problem with gtx 1070oc on gears 4 now same history for gears 5 , i did a windows 10 dual boot one for only gears 4-5 and the other for rest of games . only for gears 4-5 installed driver 391.37 and this resolved all problems .

I know, I’m just saying, don’t get your hopes up cause TC don’t give a ■■■■ about anyone.

Bro try going into ur device manger drivers go to the top click on show all hidden then go to system device drivers and update each one automatically by 2nd clicking it also u should just update all ur drivers there also try resting all ur internet settings under settings for internet rest all network settings and do the same for ur firewall rest it and be sure to use DDU for ur nvidia card to do a deep clean then install the August 27th driver there’s one more thing to do there’s some drivers on internet on device manger u delete and then refresh the drivers by second clicking it and the drivers and scan for hardware changes I forgot witch ones to delete all wams maybe then after u delete them windows will reinstall them all after u scan for hardware changes and u must click show all hidden first on top but like I said I don’t know witch ones I’m gonna double check but I’m sure if u do all the steps before that one u should be okay also make sure ur bios is up to date and update all updates on windows update and MS store updates they both do different updates

I’m not new on this and all you can imagine I already did It, nothing works.
Detailed info on my post: Game crashes, freezes, error GW502, BSOD... A disaster
Nvidia told me via email they’re already aware of the issue and are investigating the root cause, so this is not because I did a wrong installation or faulty hardware of mine.
It seems the 431.60 is the only driver that works well with the game, no crashes at the moment.
Edit: It crashed too with that old driver. I give up and I requested refund. F#@!cking lazy developers.
