News July 8 - New Ranked system

TDM not been in ranked is a big issue; I play with friends who usually are not very good and we like talking about progress and rank regardless… Having more than 1 life, but not unlimited, is the right spot since we can try to manage and talk strategy, while we can deal with them dying a few times; yet KOTH is a very rotative gameplay and it’s not very friendly to slower players… I get people didn’t like TDM as a ranked mode, but it’s as simple as playing another mode instead, while leaving those who like it with something to play

Lol. We gonna finally gonna play sometime???

Should be good to see this rolled out.

If the stars align just right.

But yeah, for sure. I’ve been playing with people more often lately.

Listening to the devy stream it really sounds like they didnt change much for ranked play.
I can forsee the same exact issues coming down the road. All they did was change a few things to make it look like big changes.

So people are gonna still go down while getting mvp because they lost.

the system seems to emphasize wins moreso than points this time around, also requires way more games because instead of you just qualifying for Diamond everybody starts at lowest level, dev said it would take like 55 matches or some crazy number of matches to hit Masters.

TC can always just tweak stuff after preseason (which is the point) so I’m not too worried about it being broken once the actual season comes out.

Their goal was clearly to make a much simpler and easier to understand system (which was pissing everybody off) and I hope they’ve achieved that here.

You ever play Horde my friend? They’re kinda encouraging me to get back on the Horde train lol.

Yeah I’ve played it. Typically with my son though.

I dunno. We shall see if they actually fixed it or not.

The current system does that. The current system is 80%wins and 20% performance.

The problem with the current system is their matchmaking is atrocious. Hopefully the new “won’t play with someone lower or higher than 1 tier” part holds true. That should make for better games, but we’ll see.

I can’t tell you how many times I got MVP and won and still got nothing… 80% wins is probably off, maybe 50% at best.

Another thing they’re changing (which wasn’t in the notes) is that you’ll be able to see people’s ranks in the lobby before the match starts, so you’ll know about how well the matchmaking system works. If your running stacks it’ll always match you against players that are equal to the highest ranked player on your squad (now it seems to take everybody’s rank into consideration) so if you are playing with a bronze level player and you are Masters should match you against DIamond 3’s/ Master’s players…

We’ll just have to test it ourselves to see how well it works or not, we’ll also be able to give feedback on it so that once preseason ends things will be better.

I just recall one of the What’s Up we got a while back specifically mentioned the balance was originally 80% performance and 20% wins, and they were flipping it because people were complaining about losing points on MVP wins. Even with this flip, you can still get 0 points on an MVP win if your personal performance didn’t exceed expectations. I’ve noticed it happens more often on 2-1 wins.

Thanks for the post and taking the time to address the forum.

Is it possible to bring the way Ranked TDM works now into QuickPlay? no bots, quit penalties, map voting, matchmaking.

I’m hoping so. But I’m also afraid that being in Masters will make finding matches difficult because the amount of Diamond/Master players has to be quite low.

I’m pretty sure they confirmed that there will be no bots in quickplay TDM, however it’s unlikely they’d have quit penalties. Map voting has always been available in quickplay, & ‘matchmaking’ would only work if there’s a measure of how good you are, no?

being the optimistic (whiny) person that I am I hope to see more players engaged in the ranking system in OP4 than we’ve seen since launch, I also fully expect more tough opponents due to TDM sharks needing a home.

Its usually much much easier to find Diamond level matches than it is to find Masters as well, so if you are Diamond I doubt it’ll be too difficult, always been difficult for Master players. They did mention that you can be matched with players up a rank from you or down a rank from you so the matchmaking seems less strict so I doubt it’ll be as bad as it was in OP3.

My friends and I are Masters which is why I’m a wondering what’s going to happen.

Diamond can also play Onyx
Masters can only play Diamond or above. So I can see some issues.
