I think the price to pay for being a gamepass title. As ridiculous as the prices are, people still buy them and it helps fund their live service stuff. I wish we still had the Gears 3 system but guess that system is long gone now,
I’m just waiting for the day when publishers stop giving us compensations or benefits for them adding in MTX and battle pass models and instead just go all out.
Flags are no big deal, but that’s only today. They pushed it to here because of people’s willingness to pay and people’s general apathy towards it…but what happens when they push even further? It’s a slow creep, one that lets mindsets adapt to a new inch they’ve gone. From a business point it’s absolutely brilliant to exploit psychological tactics to desensitize the way customers view extra charges, but as a gamer, it’s scary to think about what it could be like 5 years from now.
Gaming isn’t defined by what Triple-A studios do. Indie devs and kick-started projects aren’t beholden to publisher demands. If publishers just keep pushing further and further in that direction, throw your cash at the self-published. Gaming will be fine,
I agree with you. I stick to my boycotts when I place them. But we both know saying that means absolutely nothing, because there are too many that won’t listen or will continue to buy games from publishers they always complain about.
I don’t have a solution, because I don’t think there is one. My outlook is bleak because I think it’s an inevitable outcome. It’s not about the effect it has on me, but about an industry I really want the best for. Doesn’t keep me up at night or effect my life, but I do think it’s a shame.
Well, like I said, the upstarts will survive. If the triple-a bubble bursts, it’s a win for gaming. Publishers are a blight on the gaming industry in the same way they were in the music industry. They stifle creativity, bully artists out of their intellectual property, and treat everyone (from studios to employees to feelancers) like a disposable commodity. To me, publishers getting so top-heavy that come crashing down is something we should be rooting for, not dreading.
I don’t know if a crash will happen. It’s a nice thought, but I only see the Triple A industry getting bigger. We will hopefully always have great indie games though. Games like Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Celeste, Binding of Isaac…all of those have kept me gaming far more than any Triple A game has in years.
The only thing I see on the store is cosmetics, I’m a busy person I don’t have the time to unlock much of the extra skins and other stuff, so if I choose to buy cosmetics with my hard earned money I’d appreciate it if they were exclusive to the store.
Unfortunately for some of you, game development is expensive, most devs have collected plenty of debt while in college, and would like to make enough to live comfortably. So publishers found a way to make more money off of people like me, sorry you can’t have everything at the base 60$ but that’s buisness.
Besides people vote with their wallets, making a forum about how upset you are wont change anything.
Last game gears 4 everybody wanted more unlocking less buying things, well now you have less buying and more unlocking of things and know you got what you wanted and your still now happy, shocking.
I see this argument every time and yes peple wanted to unlock stuff via challenges.
But this isnt healthy people dont want to kill 2500 juvies when they are pvp player or collect 15M power in horde
People talked about the good old days when you beat the campaign you get xyz character, a weapon skin on hardest difficulty
Another concern is that you can miss out on these skins if you dont play the game in a certain time because all of this is time gated.
And we are talking about skins that were in the campaign so they stripped it from there and created an abusive system around it
I liked the desert armor JD but i will never have it because i dont want to waste 10+ hours in horde
All of these unlocks are built around the microtransactions and not around the game, its intentionally tedious, unfun and predatory
Honestly im baffled by all the people who defend these practices and dont see any problem with it.
I guess console gamers have no standards afterall
I think some of us don’t take our chosen hobby so seriously, and that’s why we don’t have a problem with it. I know it’s hard for a lot of gamers to wrap their heads around, but we don’t all suffer from this OCD need to collect every last imaginary digital tchotchke.
When it becomes such or chore or a nuisance, check yourself out of the games man. Don’t play Gears 5 out of obligation.
This makes me wanna die.
I do not meed to read. All I am going to say is
… yes… yes it is… i agree. Ur reasons may be right, wrong whatever. Idc… there system is ■■■■. No a blood spray is not worth 750 iron or 20$ or whatever bs tc wants to pull. ■■■■ off imo tc.u are not making fihghting game chars as example, griffon in canada was not worth 20$ at his launch. Ur a bunch of ignoranr economic robbers. No i dont like u. I just like u geas a lot. Thats all.
It’s like, instead of using a budget and developing and then selling a game and releasing a bit of dlc over 3 months, Game Companies funnel 2 years of development and 5 years of “After” Support into a ridiculous sized budget because a few games that are free to play are doing really well with their lifespans.
Instead of 2 years of budget, they pump 7 into it and after release are scrambling to recoup their cost or something.
The result is a store with stupid, overpriced crap and impossible to unlock content. I enjoy game updates, but that use to be a thing games did for free, not “as a service” you need to PAY for.
Do you type really fast on your phone or something, or is this how you type all the time?
Lmao no just drinking tonight n highly activr. But i will admit, i suck at typing on my phome. Sorry. Lmao
Salright, I’ve been drinking a little myself so my comprehension skills are taking a hit.
Gee i know that feeling. Lmao. I literally rarely drink, so i crack my beer n im drunk. Im a toker, not a drinker lmao. This is just cheaper rn.
Well i would rather buy a char skin i want then grind a stupid amount of years to get it.
1,000 headshots for 1/6 of the challenges to unlock Winter Kait. A campaign variation on the main lead character. If this game had any integrity on delivering a decent progression system that respected the player, the game would look similar to how Gears 3 did most unlocks. At its current iteration, I’d prefer launch day Gears 4 packs vs this grindfest that’s a free 2 play season multiplayer model in a AAA game.
1k headshots for 1/6 challenges for 1 skin isn’t what people were asking for. When they wanted unlocks from gameplay they wanted Gears 3 system. Distinct challenge unlock. Like say that medal unlock to get Winter Kait of all things, with how many kills, how much damage and how many headshots the game requires of you it should be something distinctive, a badge of honor. Not a damn campaign skin you had of the main character. That medal rewarding an Onyx Guard would have been far more acceptable, or even a different kind of Special Gear. Maybe even a concept/redux armor design of a main cast character that didn’t make it into campaign. Or even previous iterations of characters.
Now the game is asking players to actually devote time to long grinds and dailies along with a battle pass system that rewards what? Stuff we’ve already seen in the campaign like a damn unarmored swarm drone? Like what? The advertised new look of JD for the campaign? Campaign variations of the main cast? If this game took place before the age of microtransaction and battle pass hell these skins would have been campaign unlocks, lvl unlocks, minor challenge unlocks (complete 30 matches or 30 matches as one side).
This tour system wants you to treat playing Gears 5 like a job for the eventual reward after how much time you sink into it and you know what? Considering the time they are asking of me just to get some basic skins? I may not feel up to it and many others may feel the same. Considering on launch day in Gears 4 and the amount of time I’ve played Gears 5 now, in Gears 4 they may had lootboxes, it may have been RNG, I still didn’t like the system but it was helluva lot more rewarding of my time than Gears 5. In Gears 4 I at least had something of interest, considering that characters are definitely the highlight cosmetic for fans of the series.
