Monetization is horrible

I don’t agree with having to pay for season passes and DLC. Also I don’t like better weapons etc being locked behind supply drops.

HOWEVER I have never had a problem with paying a few pounds for a weapon skin or character skin for a game I like.

I’d say you’re playing the game for the wrong reason if it’s not for the gameplay. I don’t know when this happened, but people didn’t use to play games for cosmetics and such 🤷

I’m a big gears fan, loved gears 5 and I’ll be getting 6 whenever it’s out. I’m getting it cause I enjoyed the campaign, cause I enjoy horde mode, cause I like the gameplay itself and I’m sure I’ll have fun with pvp when I get in the mood for it.

The monetization hasn’t affected me as far as I’m aware cause I’m not after any skins to begin with, and it’s why I’ve been able to enjoy other games using a setup like this rather than being obnoxiously and having an unnecessary attitude with a game. If gears 5s game modes themselves we’re actually affected I’d see more of a reason to have an issue with it, but it’s purely cosmetic.

I mean, cool flags are worth however much they are but I don’t play games to get a flag banner or a green weapon skin 🤷

I will say I’m more neutral to how gears 5 does it cause I’ve seen worse. I can say I won’t pay so much $$ for what gears 5 has as they’re easily overpriced but that’s the world we live in today.

I play games for the gameplay, but I also like my time respected and rewarded to an extent. Gears 3 had unlocks and I STILL played the game when I had all unlocks. I still played Gears 4 after getting my absolute favorite skins and didn’t care for future pack updates. Unlocks can feel nice, character skins are highlight cosmetics for Gears fans, TC knows this. So it’s insulting that Gears 3 and 4 were far more generous with rewards than Gears 5 is.

I come from the Nintendo era before internet and microtransactions and I agree I hate more monetization in games I want to play. I do think this gears is slightly less monetized than gears 4. At least in horde lvling up gives us skills specific to the characters we use. Instead of getting in game currency to buy loot boxes and pray we get something we can use. ■■■■ loot boxes!
I really enjoyed Mass Effect 3’s multi. When I first heard they were putting multi into that I was like “Seriously?” but they made it fun. Basically like horde in a way. What kept me coming back was all the dlc weapons and classes they added over the years were free to everyone. So anytime they added something new it could be unlocked but still dependent upon the loot boxes. The thing I hated besides loot boxes was they had 10 lvls for their guns. If you got a gun you never wanted you could get another card for that gun and it would increase the stats slightly until you got to lvl 10. When you got a ■■■■■■ gun to lvl 10, you were happy because that ■■■■■■ gun couldn’t show up in your loot boxes anymore.

Or, here’s an idea: play the game because it’s fun, not to get cosmetics?

Don’t ever think just mindlessly consume and move on til the next one comes out right?
Its a common theme for people in this thread that they say they dont care yet they still defend this blatant system.

Cool then make the multiplayer and other modes free 2 play and charge money for the campaign like 30$ if they want to keep up with this nickel and dime mobile monetization

I mean, one of the main points of contention with the current model for earning content is that a portion of the player base won’t be able to earn it due to time restrictions or they’ll have to put some money into iron to focus on the quicker objectives than the majorly grindy medals.

Telling someone who doesn’t like the model to just forget about cosmetics is just basically agreeing that there is a divide between people who can play for fun and still be able to sink enough time into it to unlock a good amount and the people who can play for fun…but should just forget about being able to earn much of anything.

The model sucks because it is creating an obstacle that is out of a lot of people’s hands…free time. We all paid for access, thus we should all be able to earn the content we want, regardless of how long it takes. Just a bad move on their end moving to a seasonal model. It only prevents people from having the chance to get stuff.

Are you high? Lmao, have you ever played any other gears game? Yes this game has a great campaign and the multiplayer, horde and escape are great too, but that’s not what people are talking about. The issue is the customization, its extremely lacking. Gears 3 had over 35 cog characters! Gears 4 didnt have that many, but at least it had more than gears 5. There are 8 multiplayer characters and 3 of them, aren’t even gears! And gears 4 launched with tons of weapon skins, this game has like 4 that are obtained lol. The tour of duty has 2 swarm characters that literally the basic swarm from gears 4, that’s laughable. And the executions, how lazy! I was so excited for new executions and for the fact that there would be multiple one per gun, but all they did was duplicate the exe with a different gun, lmao! The alternate embar exe is just the basic markza, and they’re all like this, just straight duplicates. It is very obvious that they put little effort into customization. And then to charge 10 bucks for an remote is crazy. I’m all for direct purchase microtransactions, but these are overpriced. The new esports steel characters are 15 bucks and I dont know if they even come with weapon skins. I know the system will get better, eventually, but stop defending them, itll only get better if we continue to express concerns. I love this game, but it definitely needs some tweaks.

Well, my point is that the cosmetics doesn’t matter. They dont change gameplay or make you a better player, so why care so much? The ones we unlock are a nice bonus, but everyone gets maps, modes etc which are not behind a season pass paywall. That’s what important.

If you do care a lot about cosmetics and neither have the time or the money to earn/buy the cosmetics you want then yeah I guess it’s a tough spot. But I just don’t see why that should matter so much in a game.

Its not moaning its called giving feedback and in this case it is negative feedback like it or not and you are on the wrong side

They completely lied to us they said that this is the most ‘player-friendly’ mtx system ever known to man, and that this is never done before which is again a complete lie

And i ask how is this remotely player friendly in any way? This is only friendly to people who likes to get nickel and dimed and stupid enough to put money into these overpriced worthless items

You will be able to earn majority of the content hell some of the best looking skins The Rock gnasher is FREE and you can from just playing the game.

Some content will be in the market place and be on the marketplace forever. So maybe save up some money if you want them that bad.

Oh, I personally have no attachment to cosmetics. I’m just not a fan of the tour of duty model. I think it just isn’t all that good for gaming…causes too many arguments and stuff.

I get where you’re coming from. I was just saying that some people do really want to unlock the content. Who are we to tell them they can’t, since they bought into the game same as us? I just want people to be able to play and enjoy the game, if being able to unlock the content added to the game makes them happy, then I have to be on the side of that. Of course…that’s within reason. The shop items to me, I don’t care about how much that stuff costs. If they want to charge $5 or $10 or $15 or whatever for cosmetics…it isn’t an issue for me.

Well, I agree it wouldn’t hurt to make the ToD a bit more reasonable. I just don’t see it as a huge problem, more as an added bonus to a great game allready filled with content.

You have a very reasonable attitude, especially for this forum, btw. Quite refreshing, so thanks for that

My biggest problem is tray the vault lol the cosmetics in the store…once it’s gone it’s gone. I get the ToD but for purchasable now you’re being a bit ridiculous.

Same goes to you :slightly_smiling_face:

In Gears 4 I played the new system as I would describe it from the start. People had the green see through guns and I was sour for 2 years everytime I killed someone and their emerald lancer bounced lifelessly onto the canvass knowing, I can pick it up and play a little but only until I die again.

I crafted cards that I got from endless scrap from the millions of packs I bought and then later the exclusive cards including the Black Steel became available for anybody so my hard work even still got trashed later and now I’m barley probably gonna play 4 again as I’m now on 5 where the crowd is at. New maps. New everything.

The lesson:

Don’t worry about cosmetics as they are temporary. Play the game if you love the game. Who cares what skirt Kait is wearing or what chibi hangs from the Dropshot. You can die with the standard loadout and it’s the same. I remember playing Horde with this American Mexican dude who had a similar accent to Oscar and he said “What? You wanna die in style?” Made me laugh and I always remember that.

When you grow up some you won’t care about the cosmetic part but you will care about how you lost round 3 of 3 in KOTH by just 2 points. No neon lancer will help you. Just your own autoaimbot and modded controller with server stress will get you through tough times runs away from police with one handcuff still on
