I agree, there’s definitely such a thing as going a wrong direction with a series and losing it’s feel too much, but there’s also a huge possibility of stagnating if you avoid any change at all.
Look , as flanker , I’ve always been against the minimap , it’s the (good) difference between Gears and other avarage shooters : you don’t know where enemies are until you actually see them or someone spots 'em.
But I would be fine if It shows just the map and not the players , and not even gun shots.
I love Sun Tzu and his idea of war.
My finest weapon should be my tactical knowledge.
I HAVE THE RIGHT TO HIDE.
For years now I dodge games that have a minimap, as these games are full of poor game design choices. They’d prefer overloading your screen with things to distract you and block worthful space of vision. All these systems are in place to take away responsibility from you as a player, this is a cheap way of making the game easier. In reality it’s just faking gameplay depth as these things are gimmicks that shift your focus from what’s really important to less skill based systems you rely on.
you don’t have to mind all the stuff going on in the game with that. Just look at some 2D overlays and you’re fine. Why bring situational awareness to the battle when you can just look at the mini map every 5 or 10 seconds???
TC… I don’t want to look at a map every X seconds to know what’s going on like a total paranoid one. This is not fun. Every time you look at it you shift attention from the environment to a mini screen, disturbing your actual flow. This is not organic gameplay. I want you to give me time and space to point my attention to the environment. A minimap totally distracts this and caters to mindless run and gun, as you don’t have to multi-task with your attention, just use that fancy thing once in a while. I find gameplay like this boring, annoying and pace breaking.
Imagine playing in just a session for hours, your eyes will flip around here and their to the minimap all the time like your on drugs… Gears’ second-to-second gameplay is fast and hectic enough, every splitsecond in gears is already reserved for certain things: bounce, shoot run, aim, scan area, think ahead, watch ammo, help mates. do this, that, whatever… Now you force looking on a damn minimap in this hectic cycle too? Isn’t this enough stuff to do already?
you might answer now: “just turn it off then. They eventually have an option for that!”. NO, as I don’t want to give other players this advantage over me, just because they are able to use it. Their has to be a better solution!
This is disheartening. sigh
Exactly and well said.
There’s no need to try and compete with Cyberpunk by giving us all sorts of fancy “enhancements” that aid us to the point that we no longer have to rely on our own senses. If I wanted Halo I’d go play Halo
It doesnt take away from the maximum skill level you can obtain as a gamer. It reduces the gap so that players dont start playing ranked and feel so overwhelmed that they instantly quit trying. I think its beneficial to all people that want to see Gears succeed that we allow there a way for fresh blood to enter the Gears realm.
The lower player base has nothing to do with skill… it has to do with not enough gametypes split core and bad loot system…
Used to grind for all the skins in gears now i turn my head the other way because i hated gambling for items…
I dont really mind the mini map so far but its gotta be right
Not true. I’ve heard quite a few people comment on the skill gap being prohibitive. A friend of mine even mentioned it in one of his gears YouTube videos and I was surprised how many people echoed his sentiments in the comments section. That’s when I first realized it was an issue. Might not be a problem for you or I but a lot of people find it frustrating, especially after gears 4 was over a year old and the matchmaking started getting unbalanced. That’s when a lot of my friends quit and only hopped on when they could get a carry.
I had a fear they would take this from Escape and put it into mp. Just like the inverse omen I think this is a terrible idea.
Not sure why you’re directing this at me. My only annoyance is having the mini-map on screen 24/7 rather than hidden neatly away in the Tac-Com.
The mini-map looks like its here to stay regardless, i just don’t want it filling up my screen. But I can’t see how a mini-map is going to “hold anyones hand” in competitive, as players are usually constantly marking/calling out anyway.
Whether the mini map stays or you can turn it off,My poor character going to have many holes in his/her then a tea bag, just lets see when the tech tests comes around.Has TC said anything yet if mini map going to be able to turn it off in verses/competitive please.
I just hate having stuff cluttering my HUD. I don’t mind the idea as long as it’s not COD-style showing enemies when they shoot, but a toggle on it would be nice. Sometimes it might be nice to know more specifically where my team’s at, but the Tac-Com is enough for me 90% of the time.
It seems it’ll be like the map in 4 is now, it’ll only show marked enemies. You’ll still need Tac-Com anyhow, considering the “mini-map” is just that, a miniature map that only lets you see about 2.5 tiles past you in any direction. You’ll still be hitting Tac-Com just as often as you do now to see pickups, teammates and enemies that are further across the map.
If that’s how it is, I’d have no problem with it and I’d probably just toggle it off to be honest. If it’s like that, it sounds more like something to help new players who are used to mini-maps get into the game, rather than a replacement for the great marking and Tac-Com systems that are already there.
Yea, one thing I could see it helping with is if an enemy is up to 2 tiles directly behind you and marked, you’ll notice them easier than with Tac-Com.
But is tac com even confirmed?? Its been it every gears but i can see them getting rid of tac com now considering we have a mini map . It kind of defeats the purpose of tac com other rhan being able to distinguish enemy or friendly nades.
Plus the buttons are being changed i can see them using left bumper for something different
Map isn’t even going to be in future builds of MP, it was only early builds
That is what I’ve been hearing. Pro player Kenny Bounce said TC Ryan even tweeted about it but I wasn’t sure where to look
I think that´s because the Warden is not a boss enemy, but rather just a Scion. A Standard enemy. I think he repaces the Maulers.
It definitely doesn’t defeat the purpose of Tac Com.
